Filtrete: The only filter we will ever buy for our home
Our review of the Filtrete Healthy Living Ultra Allergen Reduction Filter, MPR 1500, 20 x 30 x 1-Inches, 6-Pack. We live in a dusty area due to new construction/development in all directions. We got into one of the subdivisions fairly early and noticed a fair amount of dust in our home daily. The filters we were using simply were not keeping up. This also aggravated allergies. So we went shopping locally and found these filters. They worked great. Because they worked so well, they were a hot item that flew off the shelves making it an opportunity purchase. We decided to look online on Amazon to see if there was a decent source and deal to be had. To our great fortune, there was. We only buy these now off of Amazon which saves us money and time on top of the stress of competing for limited stock in the local area. We will not buy anything less than the 1500 models because thatโs where we feel that the filters begin to perform as we want. Great product, great source and great value. Buy them. Have a cleaner home with less allergens inside and be happy!

These are really good filters, I've been buying them for five years
These are really good filters, I've been buying them for five years. I replace them every three months, they obviously catch a lot of fine debris by my observation of how discolored they get, and my allergies are so much better now that I'm not breathing all that stuff in.

Has made a positive difference, for everyone in our home. The other day, after our day was ending, we both had noticed how nice it was 2B able 2 enjoy our dinners w/o the sounds of runny noses, ๐๐๐being sucked up. Or ๐ฌ blown out in2 tissues, cloth napkins, or the closest piece of clothing that, that some1can find. In order 2 prevent them frm spraying a sneeze, all over the table, the foods & drinks or even the worst, others sitting next 2 the person doing the sneeze ๐คง. Unfortunately, I 4got 2 take a B4 & after photos ๐ธ of the filter. However, I believe that it is extremely important 2 do so. It will B very helpful 4U 2 see ๐ how much of the stuff that is in the air, is actually filtered out. The reason I feel like this is important, is bcuz I have yet 2B able 2 leave the filter in 4 the recommended efficiency time. The filter is so effective the efficiency of the filter. Although, the recommended length of change every 3 months. After about 5 - 7 weeks, I have had 2 replace the filter in order 2 maintain the efficiency in cleaning the air. We live in a very clean area, that has well maintained grounds w/ groomed hedges trimmed trees & no non maintained areas around us. A clean neighborhood

MERV vs. MPR vs. FPR
Very high quality filters, although initially I wasn't sure what MPR equated to, so here's what I found and what they do and how often you should change filters according to rating, low to high: MERV 6 / MPR 300 / FPR (n/a) Captures lint, household dust, pollen. Change every 30 days. MERV 8 / MPR 600 / FPR 5 (Green) Captures lint, household dust, pollen, dust mites, mold spores. Change every 90 days. MERV 11 / MPR 1000-1200 / FPR 7 (Red) Captures lint, household dust, pollen, dust mites, mold spores, smoke, smog, cough/sneezes, pet dander. Change every 90 days. MERV 13 / MPR 1500-1900 / FPR 10 (Blue) Captures lint, household dust, pollen, dust mites, mold spores, smoke, smog, cough/sneezes, pet dander, virus carriers, odors, bacteria. Change every 90 days.

Can breathe again
I was using a MERV8 filter from a hardware store brand. It was fine for the first few weeks, then i started having breathing problems - i.e. was having a hard time taking deep breaths once in a while in the house. I felt like my lungs were straining when i was trying to take those deep breaths. My house has some rugs and a big dog, but mostly hardwood floors, and haven't had these issues inside the house before. Resuming my allergy spray did not help. So I bought this filter from the hardware store last night and replaced the MERV8 one (it was barely 3 days old and almost new) - within about an hour, i was back to normal! No more breathing issues inside the house. If you are sensitive and prone to allergies. then this is a must buy - its not optional.

Works as well as the Filtrete 1900 and 1200; vacuum your house frequently for best results
After moving into my house 2 years ago, I had the crawlspace and attic encapsulated and insulated, followed by installation of an energy recovery ventilation system and sealing of the baseboards of all outer walls. The HVAC consultants who did this work explained that my house is now extremely โtight,โ i.e. the ERV brings fresh air and exhausts stale air out, and the house no longer leaks air. The last thing I want to do is upset the air pressure by choosing the wrong filter after the complicated renovations. Thus I tried the Filtrete 1500 because the top reviewer for this product said it had the lowest pressure drop. I think the Filtrete 1500 works as well as the Filtrete 1900 and Filtrete 1200 with charcoal in my house (I rate them all a 5), but no filter has been as important as frequent vacuuming. I use a Miele vacuum cleaner throughout the house once a week, then use a Swiffer WetJet on the hardwood floors. I also vacuum the curtains and baseboards about once every 2 months. If you do this consistently, dust bunnies never have a chance to form, and the air that recirculates in the house gets cleaner and cleaner over time. The extra house work pays off in better health and lower costs. After 2 years of this cleaning routine, my allergies improved so much that I stopped using antihistamines, and filters easily last 3 months.

Quality air is a key factor in your health.
I went in several hardware stores, Home Depot, Ace, even Target etc. and none of them stocked, in the store, a filter with the higher end specs of this filter and whats more is you pay a fortune to buy them individually so when it comes to things I know I use in my home I believe it pays to buy in bulk, or by the case or box and as I run my A/C pretty much 24/7, thus I change my filter every 3-4 months, so this purchase will last me about 1.5 years. It could last you 2 years if you use the A/C intermittently. It is interesting to note that the 3M filters are extremely tight fitting compared to other brands I bought in the past; in fact so much so that I can barely fit the 3M 18x30 into the wall where other brand 18x30 filters went in quite easily, not sure why this is, but if I have to squash it in a bit to have a better quality filter I will. In the end I believe breathing quality air is extremely important and I will do anything in my power to reduce the dust and save me from extra cleaning.

They meet and exceed the stats on the filters that the Lennox dealer recommended for my very fussy new Lennox furnace
Outstanding filters. Purchased these MPR 1500 after reading about them by someone who posted technical info. on the Amazon site. They meet and exceed the stats on the filters that the Lennox dealer recommended for my very fussy new Lennox furnace. While allowing for excellent airflow to the furnace, they also do a great job filtering out dust and dirt. Until I started using them, everything in my house was covered in dirt and dust within 2-3 days after dusting because of the heavily contaminated outdoor air being drawn into my home via normal ventilation. For the past three years and through 2018, a housing development has been going in directly behind my house. Consequently, there is soil, concrete, mortar and who knows what else floating through the air every day. Though Filtrete says these filters can last up to 3 months, the out door air is so dirty that the Filtrete filter turns charcoal grey in 3-4 weeks, and so I am changing them monthly. (I am not using Filrete's higher rated allergy filters because they will not provide the needed ventilation that my furnace requires.) The other filters the dealer had sold me provided the furnace with the same needed ventilation but filtered dirt out so poorly they were barely off white after a month. So, until the excavation and building has cease, I will continue to happily change these filters once a month in order to live in a dirt free environment and not breathe in all the incoming contaminated air particles.

Updated 2016 Data: Ultra Allergen MPR 1500 is the lowest Pressure Drop, even lower then MPR 300 according to 3M
I've been trying to find out which filter would be best for my A/C. My top concern was not to put too much load on the HVAC fan given the age and to reduce electricity consumption. I always assumed it was the 600MPR Dust & Pollen or the 300 MPR Dust. So I asked 3M for the data on the Filtrete filter and this is what I got. SUMMARY: The Ultra Allergen 1500MPR (for 1 inch depth HVAC) is the LOWEST pressure at 0.15 (vs .20 for the MPR 600). So it didn't make sense for me to go for MPR 300, MPR 600 or MPR 1000. The complete response from 3M below: Generally speaking, for most residential HVAC systems, the filter will become restrictive when it reaches a .5 pressure drop. All of our filter media fibers are polypropylene and polyolefin plastic which will remove particles that measure 3 to 10 microns. Microparticle Performance Rating (MPR), MERV Ratings, and pressure drops are as follows: Elite Extra 2400 3-10 microns - 96% MERV 13 pressure drop .21 Elite Allergen 2200 3-10 microns - 94% MERV 12 pressure drop .18 Maximum/Ultimate Allergen 1900 3-10 microns - 93% MERV 12 pressure drop .16 Allergen Deep Pleat 1550 (4"). 3-10 microns 97% MERV 12 pressure drop .12 Ultra Allergen 1500 310 microns - 90% MERV 12 pressure drop .15 Odor Reduction 1200 3-10 microns - 85% MERV 11 pressure drop .24 Micro Allergen 1000 3-10 microns - 80% MERV 11 pressure drop .21 Dust & Pollen 600 3-10 microns - 65% MERV 7 pressure drop .20 Dust Reduction 300 3-10 microns -35% MERV 6 pressure drop .20 Flat Panel 3-10 microns -5% MERV 1 Pressure Drop .08 Pressure drop is a measure of air flow resistance. It is measured by inches of Water Column (W.C.) at 300 feet per minute (FPM). Clean/new filters are not restrictive to air flow. Filters will become restrictive if they are not changed when needed. A filter's life is actually determined by the user's living conditions and will vary for every user. Generally speaking, we recommend changing filters approximately every 3 mo nths. To determine when the filter needs to be change, we suggest holding it up to the light. When you cannot see light through the filter, it is ready to be changed, even if it is before 3 months. If you are concerned about airflow, you might want to use the filter with a lower pressure drop. If you have a high velocity furnace with high fan speed, you may need to change the filters more frequently, every 1.5 to 2 months.

Totally Sold On These
I started using these filters in Austin where cedar fever rules. A friend suggested I give this filter a try, and I was sold on them the first week. This filter helped immensely. My allergy symptoms lessened without doing anything else. The filter is strong, not flimsy I strongly recommend these to anyone with asthma or allergies. I won't use any other brand of filter.
