I've purchased lots of stuff from Amazon and this sprayer is one of the best items so far! A must have if you're looking to cover a large area (or a small area) thouroghly (and quickly) with liquid chemicals. I've been using a 4 gallon backpack pump sprayer for application of bug killer and weed killer outside my home and cabin. The backpack sprayer was nice but #1 is was a little heavy. #2 It was cheaply made (especially the shoulder straps) #3 It didn't spray a large enough volume for large areas...it took forever. #4 Always had to stop to refill it. This sprayer suffers from none of the above issues. All you need is a garden hose and the chemical. I used this sprayer at my cabin to apply Talstar Pro for ants in yard, mosquitoes and anything that crawls. I sprayed the ENTIRE yard, deck, picnic table, foundation to cabin and even the exterior walls (siding) Took no time at all, sprayer didn't leak and it seems to be heavy duty. Quality made with brass fittings....not that plastic junk you get at the hardware store. The only issue I had was finding hoses in garage to put together to make it long enough! Lol. You fill it up with chemical, connect a hose, select a mixing rate between 1 & 10 and start spraying! I played around with the mixing rate. The sweet spot for my chemical was 5. If I couldn't see some residue in the water after an area was sprayed, I made it stronger. I started at 2 and ended up at 5. Make sure you put the selector on whole numbers only...do not put them in between where "half" numbers would be. If you don't keep it on whole numbers, it mixes at the full rate 10. Make sure to clean/flush thoroughly after you're done using it so it doesn't plug up!

+++UPDATE: I called the company directly, in upstate NY. I had a brief conversation with a pleasant lady and she asked me a few questions about the product I had received and what problem it was having. Within about 1 minute she told me 'the holes were incorrectly drilled' in the brass head and she then asked for my shipping address and told me she will have a new product on the way that day. No receipt, no proof of purchase, NO hassle, easy peasy. Sure enough - within about 3 days I got my new sprayer in the mail and IT WORKS PERFECTLY! It measures and mixes as it is supposed to, and is leak free, and has a nice even spray pattern to distribute product to my lawn. Thank you Chapin customer support. I'm changing my review from 1 to 5 star, because of the way the company handled my defective item claim. Does NOT work new out of the package. After spraying a good deal of my lawn to control a tick infestation, I noticed that the unit was not taking up any of the liquid in the bottle to mix with water. Ughhh! After checking it thoroughly, I determined that the siphon hole is actually working in reverse, putting a small amount of water INTO the bottle, rather than drawing the liquid from the bottle. For such a simple design, this is really poor quality control in my estimation. Super disappointed, now I'm going to go through the hassle of return. :(

Works great. Remember, this is measuring in tablespoons, so set this to #2 for 1 ounce per gallon, #4 for 2 ounces per gallon, etc. However, I suggest the FIRST thing you do is take the brass reducer nozzle off the top and put in the hose inside the tube so you never lose it. This does change the flow rate to teaspoons, so set it to #6 for 1 ounce per gallon. If you need a higher mix, put the nozzle inside the screw on container and put it back in the tube when you're done. Also, if you remove the deflector, the stream will shoot pretty far, farther than most garden sprayer nozzles. If you are trying to spray something higher up and this won't reach, get a long pipe or piece of PVC and tape this to the end. If you make a piece of 10 or 15 ft hose to go with the PVC, you can put a ball valve at the bottom so you can turn the flow on and off as well. I use these professionally and they work great!

This spring I had the anti siphon/ handle spraying problem, so I called customer service, they are sending new parts. The O-ring was seated, but I think a plastic part was nicked when the thing fell off a high shelf into a concrete floor, I told the truth, too. IMHO, this is a precision engineered product. It will shoot a stream of insecticide in a fairly tight pattern 20-25 ft using a garden hose. I've never had a hose end sprayer that would reach second story wasp nests before. Also, it will not backwash big killer into your garden hose if the solution plugs it up. It is high performance equipment. Don't drop it, especially on concrete. Wash it according to the directions. Put it back in it's box to store it.

Finally a sprayer that is easy to use and works reliably. It does not spray water into the bottle so any unused liquid can be poured back into its container for storage. It does not suck up thick liquids very well so you may have to dilute them with water and increase the application rate to compensate. It's easy to disassemble and clean. I've gone through at least 6 other brands of sprayers over the many years and all have either broken or give very capricious application rates. This one seems indestructible and foolproof compared with all the others. Money well spent.

LOVE THIS SPRAYER. I wash my house once a year (it is white) and the stream reaches to the top of the second story. I use the sprayer for cleaning my house and feeding the landscape. I am a great "Jerry Baker fan". He wrote the book on using items eco friendly and natural household items for lawns and landscape. I originally bought the sprayer, after putting in new sod, to apply Baker's tonics. Then I found other uses for it. Seems to be constructed as well as a sprayer can be. Brass fittings on top. I love the detachable bottom for refills without detaching the handle. In the photo you can see a black hard plastic lip that comes out over the top of sprayer end. This lip rotates 360 and helps to keep spray down on lawn or rotate 180 and it helps spray up. That is a great benefit when washing high windows or the second floor of the house. I use my sprayer from March to November in Alabama, where the climate is mild. For cleaning my house, the spray is strong enough to blow away debris from my siding without damaging paint or siding like a power washer. Side note! Here is a recipe for cleaning that is friendly to the environment, less costly than most chemicals, and easy on the lungs: 4 oz. dawn or dish soap 8 oz. lemon juice (real lemon bottle) 16 oz. white vinegar 20 oz. water I was given this recipe to clean the scum from shower walls without scrubbing. I use this mix to clean my outside siding, all bathroom and kitchen porcelain (sinks, toilets, showers, tub). I mix double recipe (because I use so much) and keep it in a vinegar bottle (heavier that most and don't use a milk jug - it will break down and leak over time - I know!). Spray on, let stand 1hr to loosen dirt, then just wipe with a microfiber and rinse - NO SCRUBBING SINKS OR SHOWERS! I let it stay on the house siding for about an hour, then lightly wet it with hose, use extension rod with soft brush (bought at Lowes) to loose pollution and debris, then rinse with hose. I have become the window cleaner for my mom and my neighbors, they are older and need help. YOU CAN USE THIS SPRAYER TO SPRAY WINDOWS AND MY RECIPE ABOVE WITH NO STREAKS. 1) set bottle on 10 (top dial) 2) pour recipe in plastic bottle 3) spray windows 4) I use extension rod with brush to lightly scrub window dirt free (medium bristle 5) rinse with hose. I cleaned all my mother's windows this year and after rinse did nothing and they did not streak or have spots!!!!!! I just purchased this sprayer for my brother, who once a year drags a ladder around his house in SC to clean lots of windows by hand. He will love me forever now!!! Back to business- you will find this sprayer does all it says, i have two now and have purchased more for others. Be sure to run water through container after using. Even household items with corrode the brass. I SAY, SPEND MORE TIME LIVING FOR GOD THAN CLEANING YOUR H0USE!!!!

once the diverter was (carefully) removed from the end of the nozzle, I was pleasantly surprised that it sprayed to 25 feet.

Edit: I'm adding this portion to the top. The first unit I received was not functioning properly. The unit was filling with water as it sprayed, and not picking up any material in the container. However, upon contacting Chapin support, they didn't waste any time diagnosing the problem and making arrangements for a replacement. The new one that I received works great so far. Original: I'm planning to update this review over time. However, first attempt to use it was a complete fail. As far as I can tell, nothing is siphoned from the unit, and it actually fills the bottle up with water as I'm spraying it. Also, there are pinholes located by each number on the adjustment dial. The sprayer shoots a fine stream of water out of these holes. I can't help but wonder if there is somehing I'm missing (like a priming procedure?), but the instructions are no help. I'm going to reach out to Chapin and see what they can tell me. Also, I'm going to put some tracker in it and see id anything is making it out. Since water fills the tank while spraying, I cannot simply look at the tanks contents to confirm. 9/11/17 - update - Confirmed the unit is not picking up any contents from the tank. I called Chapin's customer service and they said the unit is defective if the stream is coming out of the dial. They are sending me a new unit. Very nice experience with support. I will update when the replacement unit comes in.

This is a great sprayer! It has a learning curve like they all do and don't expect to stay dry using it or any other sprayer. Consider rain gear or at least a wide brimmed hat if you do trees. The design is so simple, a zinc hose nozzle, brass venturi assembly and chemical bottle. It's very durable, far better than any plastic sprayer I've used. Shoots probably 30 ft up. After spraying hundreds of gallons of fungicide all summer to treat a massive tree disease problem, it still works perfectly. The two plastic ones I started the season with both broke apart after just a few uses. Product delivery should be calibrated by spraying into a measured bucket; I've never bothered even trying to determine what the numbers on sprayers are supposed to mean. I agree with the comments about the bottle threads, they are a loose fit and easy to pop off if over tightened, but tightening snug enough to hold the bottle works fine, it's never fallen off and I've used this thing far more than casual gardeners ever will. The thread looseness should be fixed by Chapin, though. My other complaint is the bottle is small, a quart bottle would be nice, but they don't seem to sell one. It will leak if laid over on its side; all my others did too, so no big deal. The metal components are what make this sprayer special and I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Finally I found a sprayer that actually works. I have tried the Chameleon, Ortho and the preset 10, 20 gallon sprayers all to no avail at some point. For thin watery liquid those sprayers were ok but I spray some thick solutions. For instance I follow Jerry Bakers natural home recipes for lawn and garden, a cup of lemon dish soap, can of beer, 1/2 cup ammonia, 1/2 cup liquid lawn food, and 1/2 cup kayo syrup for one and spray it as a 20 gallon solution, I usually microwave the kayro syrup to thin it initially and use a golf ball in the cup to agitate it the solution. The other sprayers would seem to work but the cups would never empty when they should, I would open the cup and see the pick up straw drawing up the solution but it never had enough suction to actually dispense it and the cup would barely drain, only if I set the setting at a much increased rate they would work better but that would change the ratio considerably. This sprayer is perfect. Though I can't fit a golf ball I found out it doesn't need it. Might try some marbles just to keep the solution well mixed. MY solution usually makes 32 ounces and I would use 20 gallons to over spray my lawn and garden. Since this only has a 16 ounce cup I had to set it to spray at 10 gallons and setting this is actually very easy. All you need to do is divide the number of ounces you want to spray by the number of gallons you want it divided up into. So 16 ounces divided by 10 gallons is 1.6 ounces per gallon. Each number represents 1/2 an ounce or 1 TBS. so set it at 3 and that equals 1.5 ounces or 3 TBS. Close enough. Sure enough I could see the solution actually emptying from the cup and since I know how much area I can cover with 10 gallons this is pretty much spot on. The only problem I have is for some reason the Lock on Feature will not lock once the sprayer has pressure on it. With the hose off I can press the handle and the lock ring or tab easily slides behind the handle locking it in place, however once the water pressure is applied there is no way it will clear the handle and lock in place. NO matter what I do with the dial that adjusts the handle throw it will not latch. Its not a deal breaker since holding the sprayer is a natural grip closing the handle. If you want a sprayer that actually works and can spray up to 100 gallons with the adapter thats included look no further. I have wasted so much money on those other plastic sprayers and with what I spray they never worked well enough. Since I only use Milorganite organic fertilizer and over spray my lawn with homemade solutions I can actually say I have the greenest most weed free lawn on the block and an incredible Hosta garden in front of my house. I included a photo of my lawn and my neighbors who uses a lawn service a couple times per month and you can clearly see a major difference, my house is on the left and both lawns are actually the same height. I spend $8 a bag 4 times a year on Milorganite and just a few bucks in solutions I spray every couple weeks and I have had people stop and ask what do I do or who manages my lawn. I tell them me and they can't believe it.. This sprayer will really help as like I said the previous sprayers just struggled to spray this heavy solution.
