Not Just a Code Reader!

Be warned this is not your typical code reader. This one gets into the the technical stuff. A lot I have no idea what I was looking at. I learned to use a few of the functions from uTube videos. I learned enough to find out I had a plugged EGR valve and I have to 02 sensors that are bad. I have the shop manuals for my car and the more I study this instrument the more I like it. The best feature I think is the graphing. Watching the operation of the 02 sensors on the graph mode enabled me to locate the bad sensors in a couple of minutes. If you are willing to take the time and learn how to use this scanner, you'll be glad you bought it. I'm very pleased with my purchase. However when you order this, order a case and the extention ribbon. You will want to protect this little jewel. The extention ribbon allows you to hook up to your automobile computer and be able to sit comfortably in the driver's seat while you are doing the test instead of being hunched under the steering wheel. Great scanner, great price!

Worked well

I was skeptical as this was really cheap in price. I had priced at a local auto store and the units they sold were averaging $100 and above. I took a shot with this one as I had a check engine light on and had researched it was most likely an oxygen sensor due to the check engine light as well as the VSC light noted. Sure enough, I hooked this up and gave me a code that the sensor in bank two sensor two was bad. I took it to a repair place to have them diagnose as well and it was the same diagnosis. I ended up doing the repair myself after watching some YouTube videos and saved myself almost $400.

Great code reader for the price!

For the past few years I've used a Innova 3030 code reader that was purchased at Walmart for around the same price as the Foxwell NT301 however I was never a huge fan in fact I really hated using the Innova 3030 but it worked in a pinch. After getting the Foxwell NT301 and getting to use it for awhile now I can say I actually really enjoy using it. While both take about a minute to sync with the vehicle you get a loading screen with the Foxwell that doesn't make it seem to take as long. But down to the nitty gritty my old scanner only gave you generic codes. However the Foxwell gives you not only generic codes but once synced with the vehicle it can also give manufacture codes as well. The best part is that I give the codes with a description of the code. Which other wise you would have to write them down and search for them online. This feature is very handy and a major time saver. The Foxwell also has a great easy to use full color display and easy to follow instructions. Additional features of Foxwell that I really like is the ability to read real time data and print off any codes that have been detected. I've used this unit on several vehicles. In the time I've owned it and each time it's worked flawlessly. However I did use it on a Cadillac I was recently working on and the only codes it was not able to pull where the chassis and suspension codes however I wasn't expecting this as they are usually only detectable on the vehicle diagnosis system itself. Overall I really like the Foxwell NT301 and will and have gladly recommended this reader to several people.

Worked great on a Mini Cooper Countryman and a Ford Mustang.

I got this when it was on sale for $60. At first, I thought this tool was junk. But then I realized, it was operator error. I've used a lot of tools but never on a push start vehicle. What you need to know is that you have to push the start button but not start the car. Then hold the start button for 3 - 5 seconds without starting the car. After, the car will power into a mode but not be started. Then you can hook up the scan tool and have access to codes and gain the ability to clear them. If you do not do this, you will not be able to clear them. I think this is probably the same as other scan devices as well.

Exactly what I needed.

This analyzer totally performed to my expectations. Very simple and intuitive with minimal need for referencing the instruction book (which is pretty thorough). It accurately diagnosed the cause of my Check Engine Light (error code P0013). Went on YouTube to learn how the replace faulty VVT exhaust solenoid, and after a trip to Autozone for the new part, was able to replace it in about 20 minutes. Rechecked system and it was good to go. Loved that I was able to clear error code from car's ECM memory after the repair. Now I can pass the annual emissions test that is required to renew my next registration here in Texas. Chevy dealer wanted $125 just to connect to the OBD2... then would add parts/labor to that. Paid $65 for the scanner tool, $48 for the part and came out way ahead, plus I now have a scanner to use for any future CEL.

Nice color screen, feels durable, and provides tons of info but button layout could be improved.

This thing is easy to hook up and provides a ton of data, the only problem is that I don't know what most of it means! The color screen is bright and easy to read, but it's not a touch screen, and since we're all kind of used to touch screens now that takes a little getting used to. Navigation is done by the arrow buttons, with up and down placed next to each other at the top and left and right buttons placed over to the sides. The arrows are clearly printed on the buttons, but because they're not in a more standard cross shape like the D-pads I'm used to using on videogame controllers and such, using them to navigate wasn't very intuitive for me. Several times I would catch myself trying to tap on the screen, and then when I remembered I had to use the buttons I had to actually take a second and think about which button I needed to press. So I think the button layout could be improved by making the four directional buttons more like a D-pad and then putting the other buttons in the area around the D-pad. There are also three lights just under the screen which indicates if everything's good, there's a warning, or there's a serious issue. The two cars I plugged it into both showed green, which is what was expected. There were no codes listed, which was also expected. I navigated through the menus and looked at a bunch of data which I didn't understand at all, and found an area where it can perform diagnostic tests. There's even an option to perform diagnostic tests on the device itself, which I thought was cool. Physically, I like the feel of the device with the black rubber grip thing all around the outside edge. It makes it feel durable. And the cord is plenty long enough for both using in the driver and passenger seat. No external batteries are required, it uses the power from the car. I wondered what about if the car had no power, but then I realized if that happened then even if the code reader had power it probably still wouldn't be able to the query the car for information due to the car having no power. I don't know much about cars, though, so maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, I like this thing so far but can't really do a fully accurate test until something goes wrong with my car again. I wish I would of had this thing years ago.

Love this product

Love this product. It saved me some money. Didn't have to take my car to the repair shop for a diagnostic which cost far more than this product and shops see a woman and add unnecessary things that's wrong with your vehicle. When my check engine light came on I was nervous but the diagnostic machine showed it was a minor repair.

Works on a early OBD2, a lifesaver

I kept bogging down on my 1998 CR-V. I checked and rechecked timing, fuel pressure, spark plugs, distributor, everything. NO check engine light on, I was going crazy. Finally decided to shell out the money for a "pro" scanner, better than my $20 walmart one. I plugged this one in, took it for a test drive with the data record feature, and guess what I found- a bad O2 upstream sensor. It kept telling my computer it was rich (voltage was .6 to 1.2 all through the ride), and the downstream sensor dipped to near 0 as the computer cut back fuel. My short term fuel trims went down to -30%. All of this and NEVER threw a darn code for me to figure it out. I spent hours upon hours trying to find the mechanical issue, when this electronic tool took care of it in about 15 minutes. A no brainer, your time is worth way more than this costs, buy it. And I'm your average tree shade mechanic who works on his own cars, not a fake reviewer as you can see on my history. This product was that good for me to leave a glowing review

Very good purchase, Paid for itself on the first use!

I have never owned a code reader and bought this Foxwell NT301 because I got sick and tired of throwing codes and relying on a dealership or mechanic to tell me what was wrong. I'm pretty handy and an former aircraft mechanic, so I know my way around tools. This was the piece I needed most. This unit does what it says and seems to do it quite well. This is the perfect unit for the handy weekend mechanic who does his own work like me. MY STORY: I own a 2013 Ford Fusion Titanium that was having some difficulties 2 YEARS AGO with sputtering after start and then sometimes stalling . The dealership and supposed ASE "mechanic" gave me a printout of the thrown codes, (4 or so) and a hefty quote for throttle body replacement, FRP sensors and spark plugs to the tune of $1300.00 !! Well, being a mechanic on aircraft and a Quality Engineer by trade, I wasn't having it. I berated the mechanic and cause a scene at the dealership and took the car home. On my own, I replaced the most logical item first and went for the spark plugs, for a total or $45 bucks and 40 minutes of my time, I SAVED myself the full $1300... The CEL went away and never illuminated again for nearly 2 years (50,000 miles). 2 years past, and I started to get a hesitation, loss or power and poor performance and logically I assumed the cause of the CEL now was related to the other items I didnt replace 2 years ago, I replaced the FRP sensors and was skeptical of the Throttle body. After getting nowhere and still having the CEL on, I decided to buy this FOXWELL NT301. I plugged it in and was immediately surprised that none of the previous codes were present but the Car was throwing codes for a misfire. This unit allowed me to READ THE CODE and have the manufacturers reference without having to look it up online. It allowed me to clear the codes and then drive until the car CEL illuminated again. I used the record option to record the event at the moment the code was thrown, watch the LIVE DATA and then read all the codes present. Low and Behold, the cars was throwing codes for a Misfire and NOT the throttle body etc. I bought a new set of Spark plugs and replaced them first and yeah, the CEL went away, and I haven't had problems since. The dealership originally wanted to bone me for $1300.00 and I smelled my way around that issue, and this time I was able to verify my problem with this code reader and ignore the erroneous data the dealership gave me in the past. Dont waste another dime anywhere. BUY THIS, read the manual, understand its full potential and USE IT. IT SAVED ME A FORTUNE. Any negative review here unfounded on me. THIS IS A GREAT UNIT.
