I wanted a smaller, lightweight bag to carry a few items for myself and my 2 dogs while hiking, especially during camping trips. I ordered the 20 L bag and despite how small the bag appears, with the use of the three different compartments, I was actually able to fit ALL my personal belongings for my upcoming 2 night camping trip, and not just the items for hiking, including some items for my dogs. I was fit into this small lightweight bag: PJs, two changes of day clothes, snacks, two textbooks for studying, small bag of misc items, my water bottle, dogs' water bottle, toiletry bag, and a few other smaller items. If I change my mind after the camping trip about how awesome this bag is, I will update! The shoulder straps are also very very comfortable.

My husband was looking for a day pack. I bought him 6 backpacks to compare. The Hiking Cycling Backpack, Sunhiker Sports Outdoor Backpack Bag Running Camping Backpack Water Resistant Lightweight SMALL Daypack 25L M441 (Black), the Osprey Packs Momentum 22 Daypack (Spring 2016 Model), Carbide Grey, the Outlander Packable Handy Lightweight Travel Hiking Backpack Daypack, Grey, the Lightweight Rucksack 25L for men women kids - Foldable into Inner pocket (BLACK), the Cycling Hiking Backpack Sunhiker Water Resistant Travel Backpack Lightweight SMALL Daypack M0714 (Dark Green), and the Free Knight 25L Packable Handy Lightweight Travel Backpack Daypack-Lifetime Warranty (New Grey). There were pros and cons for each pack. He decided to keep the Hiking Cycling Backpack, Sunhiker Sports Outdoor Backpack Bag Running Camping Backpack Water Resistant Lightweight SMALL Daypack 25L M441 (Black)because it met his needs the best. We ordered all packs in gray, green, or black. We returned the other 5 packs. I liked 2 of the lightweight foldable packs - the Outlander Packable Handy Lightweight Travel Hiking Backpack Daypack, Greyand the Free Knight 25L Packable Handy Lightweight Travel Backpack Daypack-Lifetime Warranty (New Grey). I decided to order those for myself in Pink and Purple. All of the packs had a mesh pocket on each side of the pack for water bottles. We tested them all with a Nalgene bottle and a bottle of water. All of the packs could easily hold the bottle of water. Some were a very tight fit for the Nalgene bottles. All packs had a main compartment with one or two pockets in the front of the pack. The main compartments varied from 561 cubic inches to 1386 cubic inches. 3 of the packs were lightweight, foldable, and storable in their own pocket. Here are my summaries of this pack: 825 cubic inches 16 1/2” x 10” x 5” 6” mesh pockets – smaller pockets Covers about 4 ¾” of bottles Straps 2 ¼” wide This pack has 3 main compartments. In the back is the largest zippered compartment. In the middle is a middle sized zippered compartment. In the front is a small zippered pocket. Pros: - Small zippered pocket inside the main compartment. This is where the pack is stored when folded. - Very easy to adjust shoulder straps - Reinforced mesh straps feel soft and pliable - Pockets fit a Nalgene bottle - Handle at top of pack for an additional way of carrying pack Cons: - Thinner material than a standard backpack. - No back padding and did not keep it’s shape. Typical for a foldable pack. I ordered one of these for myself in a different color.

As an artist who travels a lot I thought this would be a great idea to use instead of a purse when flying. I actually now have recommended this bag to many of my friends who travel now as well! I bought the smaller size at first but realized it wasn't big enough for all my electronics. So I purchased the larger one. It was great! It provides more room than a purse and leaves me hands free. It's big enough to carry some art supplies too. Like a dry media watercolor palette. I was going to return the smaller one but decided to keep it and use it at my destination instead of a purse. It weighs so little and it is so practical. I keep it folded into it's little pouch when in transit. Voila! I have a purse at the other end. We got a lot of painting done on my last trip to France with a bunch of my friends who I reccomended this bad to in the end! I got tons of compliments on how efficient it was at storing all of my equipment. The backpack helped me get to the WorkshopsInFrance.com UPDATED REVIEW: As a carry on bag, it meets all of the requirements to travel on an aircraft. I can bring it on the plane and store it in the overhead storage or under the seat in front of me with no problem. It also distributes weight evenly so even if I have all of my heave painting supplies, laptop and camera in it, it doesn't cut into my shoulder at all when carrying it around the airport. I can travel with piece of mind, not worrying about dragging a huge bag around, it really doesn't bother me at all.

All the reasons to buy this great little backpack: (1) Convenient to keep in the luggage for those extra things you bring home. (2) So lightweight, but very sturdy and well made, perfect for lugging around all your "stuff" when at attractions / hiking (3) For reason number 2 above, great to keep 1 in your car / beach bag / tote (4) I recommend picking up a nice neutral color so no one has an excuse not to carry it! (for all those extra's & maybe someone else will carry the extra bag) (Why does everyone hand me their jackets / keys / collectible cups when finished... etc.???) I am not a pack mule... lol... nice thing is no one minds slinging this over their shoulder. (5) So small and compact when in its pouch & yes, I tried putting it back in the pouch myself to see if it would fit & with very little effort was able to repack it (almost) as good as factory compactness. Nice and convenient, I keep 1 in my luggage permanently so I will not forget it. Awesome for movie bag... I will buy their soda and popcorn, but draw the line at the candy... hit the dollar store on the way and have everyone pick out their favorites!!! (I digress... ahem.... yes, this is a great multi-purpose bag that is so convenient & compact when not in use :-) I really rely on honest reviewers, real purchasers, so please click below if this info has helped at all. Thank you and Enjoy!

This pack is deceptively large (see pics with the CD case for perspective). I was able to fit a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, cargo shorts, underwear, a packable windbreaker, a pair of hiking shoes (size 15!!!), sunscreen, boonie hat, baseball cap, glasses case, passport, iPhone, charger, socks...basically everything I needed for a day PLUS contingencies (sans towels). It's super light, and even though I CRAMMED it totally full, the zippers were never an issue. It packs down to about the size of 4 CD's, and when full, it's not much smaller than a standard backpack. The incredibly lightweight material feels pretty strong for normal wear and tear, and it's relatively water resistant. We went sailing and it stayed with me the whole time and nothing inside got wet, despite constant spray from the waves. Would it protect a camera in a rain storm? No, definitely not, but it'll keep your clothes dry enough in a sprinkle. I could do without the design on the pack circa 1993, so I chose green, which minimized this minor annoyance. The model I got was slightly improved from the pictures shown (again, see my pics). Mine has an additional, small zippered pouch on the front, which I used to stash my iPhone and wallet. Hats and sunscreen went into pocket #2, and everything else went into the main compartment. Really happy with this item so far. Did I mention that I'm 6'5", 320? I'm a big dude, and, while I looked like a tween girl with a mini-backpack, I was totally comfortable in this pack, and it easily went on and off.

I needed a packable, waterproof backpack for my trip to Brazil and this was perfect! I wore it while hiking through the jungle in Iguassu Falls, where weather was unpredictable, and it kept all my belongings dry. At one point, I was able to fit a change of clothes, sunscreen, towel, and a bunch of other items. I liked the smaller pockets for items that needed to be easily accessible. The price point is great and it didn't take up any room in my luggage. I also used it later in my trip as an extra bag for souvenirs! Definitely recommend!

I've backpacked my whole life. As I'm now 61 years old, I've invested in a lot of light/ultralight gear over the last few years (as well as taking less along). I normally pack a daypack in my backpack in order to do day hikes from camp whenever we reach the place we want to camp for a few days. The load has diminished greatly, from 50 pounds 5 years ago to 35 a year ago. This year I purchased the Outlander daypack for a trip into the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and I was carrying only 30 pounds up the trail. My heavier daypack would have added more weight in my load, and would have taken up more room in my pack. From our camp at 11,700 feet, the Outlander was perfect for venturing out. I could barely feel a load, and with the thin air, that was critical. The ripstop material is obviously not the most durable material out there (or how could the pack be so light?), so some common sense will tell you to take care when packing anything with sharp edges that might penetrate the material. It held my food and water for the day, extra clothes, and a few miscellaneous items with lots of room to spare. The side pockets held water bottles perfectly. I used the pack two more times since, for a dayhike in the Oregon Cascades, and for a day in Victoria BC and it performed very well. I'm sure I'll use it for a lot of outings where I'd normally lug my much heavier daypack. All in all, I'm extremely pleased with the Outlander for its weight, storage size, its footprint when packed, and compartments. It was money well spent.

We've just returned from 7 days of hiking with these beauties; both my daughter and I loved them. We have the smaller of the two sizes (20L) and found them perfect - they suit Frontier's size requirements for a "personal item" and were light and COMFORTABLE for hiking in upper 90's weather for mountainous 9-mile hikes in both North Carolina and Colorado Springs. They helped us conquer the legendary "Incline" of Manitou Springs and a fabulous bike ride all the way down Pikes Peak when hydration, stability, and comfort were paramount. They easily carried several water bottles, personal items, car keys safely zipped into the carrying pouch, light jacket, sunscreen, snacks, maps, phone, etc. (I even washed mine when we returned last night and it came out looking like new after I snipped a few threads around the zipper.) EVEN if it had not survived for another trip, these were WELL WORTH the price. And yes - I have gotten mine back into its pouch several times with ease. I traveled with this packed in my larger backpack until we were preparing for the day trips; she slid hers under the airplane seat easily. Both worked beautifully.

I bought several nylon backpacks on Amazon prior to my trip last month, to determine which size or brand that I would like. A few will be returned. The 22L Outlander backpack in purple felt the best and I now use it most days as my purse. I am 5'4" and a bit short-waisted, so standard backpacks are all too long on me. This one is quite comfortable and a good length. The side pockets easily hold my either or both a 12oz or 16oz stainless steel water bottle, or my sunglasses. This pack nicely survived a two-week trip to Europe last month as my purse and daypack, as we traveled by bus and train. It seems quite well-made with perfectly functioning zippers and no fraying on seams. It carried all of my usual "purse" items as well as an extra shirt, socks, snacks, pill organizer, with room to add a few souvenirs. Even though I weighed it down pretty well the straps were still comfortable on my shoulders. The other brand of similar backpacks were not as comfortable on me, and one had annoyingly loud material (I think that was the MCIRCO 20L). The Outlander (22L purple) and Hexin (33L purple) seemed to both be made by the same company since they fit similarly and had the same style and print on the fabric. So, I am keeping them both! When I had more things to carry, I would put the smaller pack inside the larger one. I used the larger one as my carry-on for my flights, and the smaller one as my purse. Both sizes fold back neatly into a little pouch, but frankly, I can't see me ever putting them away. They are so lightweight that they take up practically no space. I did fold the big one a few times and carried it inside the smaller one (so that I would have an extra shopping bag with me), but after a few times I just rolled the extra pack and placed it at the bottom of the pack in use. I also bought an Outlander (33L) in Black for my husband to carry, but he didn't mind the dark purple color. He may have objected if I had wanted him to carry a pink or red one, but the purple is pretty subtle. Both of the larger packs came in handy for sorting our clothes during the trip. One day we even loaded both 33L backpacks with stuff we should not have brought with us (can you say "overpacked"?) and walked to the Amsterdam Post Office to mail home a box of our "stuff" (yeah, we'll just call it stuff, to be nice here). These packs are SO SO handy. I got the impression, at the PO, that mailing home dirty clothes was not uncommon. Doh. Yes this nylon pack is a bit flimsy, but it's so strong and holds so much! For the price, I totally recommend the Outlander (or the Hexin). Buy one in each size. Keep both, or give one away to a friend! Can't go wrong with this product. Disclaimer: I was not given anything free to try. I paid for this product. I like this product and recommend it. (No one ever sends me anything for free. Boo hoo)
