This worked the best for me
Tried all kinds of ways to sharpen the lawn mower blade. I bought a ProTool Lawnmower Blade Sharpener. That works with any power drill. I use the ProTool Lawnmower Blade Sharpener sparingly. Just to remove dings and burs. Restore the blade to the original bevel, without going crazy with it. Then I finish the edge with this Smith's 50603 Mower Blade Sharpener. Excellent results.

Good Buy
This worked very well for fine finishing and touching up the lawnmower blade. Not intended to take out large gouges and nicks. Good quality. When using it make sure you hold it as parallel with the blade as you can to get a good sharpening. If you hold it up at a steep angle it will not work.

Lives up to it's review rating!
So easy to use and works just like it says! We sharpened our lawn mower blades in under 5-minutes and have been passing it around our neighborhood to use. My only suggestion is to wear work gloves when sharpening because one of our neighbors didn't and got some small metal fragments in his hand somehow?!?! SUGGESTION: use utility gloves & protective eye wear.

Does Exactly What it Should
I mean - It's sturdy and seems durable, and did a great job on my mower blade. I'll admit I haven't even thought to sharpen my blade before, so while only a push mower blade, it's seen 4.5 years of use, twigs, stones, dookie, and dog toys and had plenty of chips and dings to show for it. This restored the edge and ironed out most of the dings with only 10 minutes of use. And yes, I could tell an immediate difference in my mower's cutting ability (especially the mulch setting).

The best sharpener you can get for residential blades.
Most of my cutting is done with a commercial mower using commercial blades, and for that I have a special rig that attaches to an angle grinder to maintain the correct angle while using a more aggressive tool to sharpen the blades. I’ve recently picked up a few clients that have a small gate that requires me to use my smaller 21” mower, so I was back in the market to find a way to sharpen “regular” mower blades while maintaining the correct angle. In the past, I’d simply use a vise and a sharpening attachment for my drill to sharpen these types of blades... but after moving I no longer have a vise so I was looking for a cheaper way to achieve the same result. With this product, it maintains the correct edge while being just aggressive enough to sharpen a blade within minutes. The problem with the drill attachments is no matter how hard you try, you will always move the sharpener across the blade in a un-uniform way... either you’ll apply more pressure in one area or another, or your speed will vary while going across the length of the blade. Couple that with the high RPM of the drill, and you’re bound to have some areas that get a little more attention from the grinding wheel than others over time. With this product, the only way you can really screw it up is by pressing too hard on one area or another, but even if you did that... you’re still doing it by hand so the damage you can do is pretty limited compared to using a power tool. I use a simple C-clamp to hold my blade while sharpening, but to be honest sometimes I skip that step and just hold it with one hand while I use this sharpener with the other and it works just fine. As another reviewer commented, if you count your “strokes” on one side of your blade and repeat it on the other, you’ll be pretty much spot-on when it comes to balancing. To sharpen a blade from a dull condition to a “holy ### this is sharp” state, other reviewers are correct that it takes about 30 stokes per side. It sounds like this is hard or takes a long time, but to sharpen both sides of a blade takes maybe 5 minutes including the balancing process. I spend far more time with my angle grinder on my commercial blades... this sharpener makes my “regular” blades seem easy peezy. The steel brush it comes with is surprisingly high quality too, although to be honest nobody is buying this for the brush. But it’s still worth mentioning.

Works Very Well
I've read some of the negative reviews for this sharpener. I suspect the people having issues with it are not using it correctly. You have to pay close attention to the side with the carbide file. Mower blades are like Japanese chef knives. They are beveled only on one side. The carbide side has to line up with the bevel. It helps to first work the edge over with an iron file to hone the blade. I used this sharpener on three different mower blades yesterday morning. It worked fine. After, two of the blades were sharp enough to cut you if you weren't careful. The third blade is a mulching blade, which was a bit trickier to sharpen because of the way the blade is designed. Having sharp mower blades makes a huge difference in how well the mower cuts. Used correctly, this sharpener works great. You just have to make sure you're using it properly. Make sure to remove the blade from the mower, and use a vice. That alone makes the job much easier. And no, I didn't get a free sharpener. Actually, I paid double money for mine because I needed it for the weekend. It's worth every dime.

great tool!
special shoutout to spencer in seattle, I watched his review and purchased it based on that. This thing is a champ when you follow instructions. 10 times on each side of the blade and less than 5 minutes to complete. Thank you spence, smith's and amazon for the money you saved me.

Wish I had bought it years ago
Even though it's only February, I went downstairs to try it out. Works great. I have been sharpening my mower blades with a grinding wheel or have had them sharpened at the local power equipment shop. This tool seems to do the job. Using a grinding wheel is cumbersome with mulching blades around the curve. This tool will pay for itself quickly rather than having the blades sharpened on the outside. Looks like you could use it freehand; however I do have a vice which made it simple to use.
