So #1 the price is up there. But so worth it! I had an old black trash can that was the bane of my existence. I also had a separate recycling can that was just small and ugly. So after years of fighting this I gave in and got this. Oh my goodness! Why did I not invest in one of these forever ago? I love it. I was worried that the trash side wouldn't hold much...Wrong! With the recycling right beside it I find my family recycles more now! Also, when I purchased I told myself that I would not get the bags that are made just for this trash can...Well, guess what. I'm sold on those too. Overall I'm in love. Get over the price and get you one. you won't be unhappy!

Did not want to pay this much for a trashcan and was a little upset after the initial purchase because I kept thinking there were so many other better things I could have spent the money on. I can honestly say after having it for 6 months, I now feel this was one of the smarter purchases I've ever made. My wife and I went through numerous disappointments trying to save money by going for the less expensive trashcans. But, that also meant less quality and cost us more money in the long run by not initially buying this trashcan like we now wish we would have. Don't make the same mistake we did. Dont look at this as an expensive purchase. You're making an investment in your home and kitchen thats worth the cost and peace of mind that'll follow soon afterwards.

Bought this to better contain odors so I wasn't changing the trash so often in a week, and most importantly to stop my dog from getting into the trash. Also wanted something aesthetically pleasing. This accomplishes all that in spades. No odor, and while my dog can probably still smell something, hopefully it is less tempting. Even so, he can't get into the lid nor does he know how to use the foot pedal. It's very resistant to finger prints which is a God send. It is gorgeous. Lid closes completely silently, slowly lowering into place when I release the pedal. The bottom is designed so that it resists sliding across the floor, and to prevent scratching the floor. I know it's just a trashcan. But it's a miracle for my home. And heads up - ignore these whiny babies re trash bags. Of course you can use regular bags. I use a 13 gallon bag I already have and it's perfect. The overhanging lid holds it in place no matter how full or heavy the bag gets.

I never thought I would spend $200 on a trash can, or write a review about a trash can until now. It looks great and is functional. Yes the trash side is a bit more narrow than a traditional trash can but the overall can is tall so it still holds quite a bit. This is so great for recycling and trash if you have to have a trash can you can see. Would buy again and recommend.

I never imagined I would spend so much for a trash can - in fact, I had buyer's remorse as soon as I hit the one-click button. Think about it, though. I spend my life in a 1br/1 ba with room for only one trash can. It's something I see several times a day. I'd rather see this than its predecessor, a $10 Rubbermaid that somehow always had food dribbling from the edges and had to be hosed out weekly. I use this with regular 13 gallon garbage bags. I have arthritis in my fingers, so inserting a new bag is painful at times, but that probably goes with the territory. I laughed when I read some reviews saying this holds more than a regular 13-gallon bag, because science would suggest otherwise. It seems to! I have no facts to support this. For those complaining that they could do without the liner bag at the back (and the added depth) - look at it sideways (see my pic). The door hinges are what cause the added depth, not the bag liner storage. That's because the bin itself is devoted to just holding the garbage. I love that the bag storage system hides the edges of the garbage bag from view. I have been told that it's also good at stifling smells. I have no sense of smell, but I hope so. My Rubbermaid certainly didn't. Think about it: If you're about to spend $5,000 on a kitchen renovation, this is small change. It makes my small kitchen look a million bucks better and work a lot better too. Update: I caved and bought the Simple Human trash bags, and I'm, er, glad. They're easier to fit on the bin, they're designed to disappear under the rim, and they seem to be better quality than the Glad bags I'd been using. I've yet to see one of the bags spring a leak from something sharp-edged in the trash - the Glad bags often did. Everyone knows what a hassle it is when the trash bag starts falling apart as you're racing it to the garbage chute/wheelie bin.

I have literally never felt this way about a trash can before. Every time I use it I can't help but exclaim (out loud), "I LOVE this trash can". Sure, it's a little weird... but my reasons for loving this can are well-founded. WHY I LOVE IT: - Appearance: Sleek; roomy inside but not bulky in my kitchen; stainless matches my appliances; fingerprint-proof - Lid: Slow closing; the step-open works well (wide pedal, very smooth action) and can be put in a "stay open" mode if need be. - Liner rim! Not only does this look neater, but it also sort of creates the same effect as an undermount sink... that is to say, it's easier to scrape things into without spillage going down the sides. - Cool liner pocket keeps the liners where you need them OVERALL: It's perfect. Perfect I tell you! You won't be sorry.

first of all, I thought I was crazy spending $100+ on a trash can. But the form factor and modern look matches the overall look and feel that I was going for for my bedroom. it's the little things that makes this trash can special vs the cheap ones you can find at Wal-Mart, Target etc. When you step on the lid opener, when you release the foot pedal.. it closes slowly. This is a big plus, as most pedal releases slam after you release the foot pedal. Inside the trash can liner, they have a built in compartment where you can store your trash can liner rather than putting a few extra on the bottom or stashing the extra liners somewhere else in your home. This is a small, but awesome touch to the trash can. I'm pretty sure the trash can liners were meant to fit and work best with the liners bought from Simplehuman themselves, but if you wanted to be cheap I'm sure you can buy elsewhere. But for me, I'd rather buy the Simplehuman liners because they have a compartment that fits the refill boxes perfectly. They also have several trash cans with different sizes, so in the event you need to reload they conveniently label which letter (code) that fits your exact model, which for my particular trash can is "M". No need to try and remember by heart what size your trash can is. As I was writing this review and changing my trash liner, as I pulled a trash bag out, there was a tag that said "you're running low!" again, a small, but very smooth touch to make a simple product better. Don't hesitate to buy people, this shit is great! I got a few compliments on it already from my guests. Never thought in a million years someone would compliment a trash can. But hey, I'll take it.

My apartment has a fairly small enclosed kitchen (that's city apartments for ya), so I needed something compact that could be moved around easily when I need to access drawers or open the oven. I had a regular bin – you know, those black plastic rectangular open ones – in that spot, but it was such an eyesore...plus the smell. GOD the smell. For a small bin it was generating an awful rank smell in such a short period of time. After realizing at one point there was a ROACH happily rooting around in the open trash, I knew I needed to get a replacement trash bin. I immediately starting looking for a small trashcan that wasn't awkward in size/shape and able to keep unwanted pests out. Initially, like a lot of other reviewers, I balked at the price...nearly $100 for a small bin??? But I really liked the look of it and thought, sure, why not? Pros: - Amaaaaazing design. So beautiful to look at, it's like a soft diffused steel color, which looks a bit more sophisticated than the straight chrome-like finishes on other stainless steel bins. Doesn't really show fingerprints on the surface. - Ergonomic stepper. I really like that the stepper is not just a small tab that sticks out, it spans the width of the bin so that you don't have to step precisely in the center. - Tightly sealed lid, with dual hinges. This has one for the step activated lid, and one for the entire lid frame, so that you can replace your trash bag. I really like that it locks into place too! - NO SMELLS! It's incredible, there isn't even like a faint whiff, it's all tightly contained. Cons: - If anything, it's the price, but honestly I don't mind it with how well the bin is designed. I highly recommend this bin, especially the smaller size (30L) as it's perfect for an apartment. My mom was super impressed and so we got one for her place too. I've been using regular trash bags, you just tuck away the top portion under the closed lid frame and you're good to go.

I have an admission. I am a well educated frugal consumer but I bought a really, really expensive garbage can and I love it!! Probably one of the best kitchen purchases I have ever made! I live in a family of five people. Our town has single can recycling (everything in one big bucket). Over the years we just got used to having a step trash can and then leaving the recycling on the counter. That eventually devolved into having a bag sit on top of the trash can with various amounts of recycling in it. It was ugly and painful. Over the years I looked at various Simplehuman recycling solutions. I came close to purchasing on several occasions but I just could't do it. How could any trash can be worth the money?!! And the liners, oh the liners. How could I possibly put myself into a situation to buy expensive liners from the expensive trash can company. I mean really! Well, then it happened. I finally got pissed off at the recycling sitting on top of the trash and the dog taking it around the house. I also hated having to move the bag to actually throw out trash. Then I found this trash can. In the past, I was always worried there wasn't enough trash or recycling room under the lid. This can had the largest recycling bin and trash bin I could find. I pulled the trigger. Tears dripped down my cheeks as I paid $200 for a recycling can. What the hell, I could always return it. I don't HAVE to use their liners, I could just tie a regular old 13 gallon liner on the trash side. Let's see... The can came. I pulled it out of the box and put the sample set of H size liners in the convenient pocket on the back of the trash side. All of a sudden, no more clutter and enough room for trash!! The skies opened and the Angels sang. And I have to tell you, it's worth every penny!!! The can looks nice and performs well. The recycling bucket comes right out and I can walk it to the garage to throw it in our town bin for collection. The size bags slide right out, tie up and go to the regular trash can. Before I leave with the full bag I just pull a new liner through the nice slot and put it right where it belongs. Genius. Oh - and about the liners. They work. They work really, really well and are so convenient in the pocket on the trash can that I spent the money to get a whole lot of them (better price that way - I am after all still a frugal guy). Once you get your can, register the warranty on the simplehuman site. They will send you a coupon for dollars off an order at their site ($5.00 if I remember correctly). Go to the simplehuman site and you can order 240 liners (a size I was unable to find anywhere else) with free shipping. Use your coupon and buy them. You only live once, don't stare at trash or loose recycling! Just do it. You wont be sorry.

Simple Human trash cans are expensive. Really expensive! But they're worth every penny. This one is beautifully designed, durable, easy to use and clean & very functional (almost intuitive). Both sides fit your standard kitchen bags. This can comes with a pack of the Simple Human trash bags which fit in a super convenient dispenser located at the back of this trash can. I felt these were too expensive, so I just fold regular trash bags so they'll dispense at a time instead. The recycling side has a can that is removable but no dispenser for bags. I guess the average SH consumer diligently washes and dries their recycling, so no need for bags. I, however, am lucky if my recyclables are totally empty, so I use a clear bag. I store a few empty bags at the bottom of the can for easy bag changes. The trash side, in addition to the dispenser, has a removable bottom for easy cleaning. The exterior is fingerprint resistant (not proof, I have a toddler) and easy to wipe clean. The step has worked reliably and the lid has a slow soft and quiet close. Overall, I'm very happy with this trash can. It makes a great addition to my kitchen.
