EASY INSTALL Nice cold air.
I have lived in Alaska for 27 years but this summer finally did it. I ordered this thing on July 4th and it arrived the following Monday. It is designed to go in a window that closes from the top down but a simple 1”x2” and some clear plastic sheeting from Lowes and I was able to put it in my window that cranks open from the side. I have this unit in a room that is closer to 225 square feet (it says it is designed for 150 square feet) but it does a fine job of making the room comfortable even when it is 25 degrees warmer outside than I want it inside. (you may want to stick to 150 sq ft if you are in Arizona but for me this is great) Pros: EASY INSTALL Nice cold air. Cons: a little loud but not bad at all.

I must say these things work like a champ and is very easy to install
This is my review for Frigidaire FFRA0511R1 5,000 BTU 115V Window-Mounted Mini-Compact Air Conditioner with Mechanical Controls. I bought two of these air conditioners for both of my guest bedrooms. We live in Maine and central air isn't really a common thing up here, but I wanted our guest to have the option for AC while they stayed with us as we can have hot and humid days on occasion. While it don't bother us any, I prefer that our guest have those creature comforts. I must say these things work like a champ and is very easy to install. It only took about 2 minutes total as I didn't want to put the screws into the window as we are currently renting. So we did some Gerry Rigging with some duct tape (not beautiful, but it works) and made it work without them. This thing comes with Mechanical rotary controls and really is very basic with no frills - 2 cool speeds, 2 fan speeds, and 2-way air direction. It cooled down my guest rooms very quickly and it did an excellent job at keeping both of them cool all day and all night long. Both of my guest did report that they had to turn it off at one point in the night, because it got to cool. Anyways, with that said, I am defiantly no pro on AC's, but I can say it did the job it was supposed to do and has exceeded my expectations and it kept my guest happy. So I would recommend this to anyone in the market for a smaller window unit AC.

UPDATE -- 3 years later
Update 6/6/2018: A couple of weeks ago I pulled this out and put it back in the window. I'm now on the third year of near continuous use during the summer and it still blows as cold as day 1. For the price, energy usage, and performance, I couldn't be happier. This is the end of my second summer using this unit daily, and it's still going like a champ. I have it in my bedroom, ~ 200+ square feet, and it could definitely cool a larger room. Despite the two different settings knobs, there are basically two levels: Can't Feel It and Nice And Cold, but considering the price point that doesn't bother me too much. It also hardly raised our energy bill, despite heavy usage. The reason I'm taking off a star is because the unit is designed for a vertically opening window. Mine slides open to the side, so it took a little work on my end to make it snug and secure.

Nice Manageable Size
Nice size to manage easily, quick, simple setup. Here in Montana, we hardly ever need A/C. I mean, like to the point where we've never bought one for any of our homes before! I've lived here all my life and literally, never needed household A/C. Lower temperatures at night usually allow us to cool the house with fans in the windows. In the morning, you can close windows, pull shades, and keep your house fairly nice all day. But for some reason this summer we've been hit with heat, and drought, and not cooling down at night enough to manage without feeling miserable. The crazy weather was good motivation to get on here and do some comparing of A/C features. I needed help from all the reviewers, having never used one myself. I ended up ordering three of these little one room size units. They have made quite a difference. My husband was extremely pleased... surprised, frankly... not to have another major installation project on his hands when he is already so busy. You just put them the window and plug them in. It is the perfect size to stack neatly in storage for the rest of the year, which is an important consideration in our case. I really highly recommend this little unit.

Great for the price, keeps the room cold and that's what matters
It's beautiful and much needed. Our room was so hot until we got this little baby. It's fairly small, luckily small enough, cause it barely fit in our tiny windows. Manual adjustment is no big deal for the price point. Bought it for the great price, keeping it for the cold air. No issues what-so-ever. Easy install, lightweight sticking it out our second story window.

Steady 71 degrees all night!
I just installed this in my sliding side to side window. So far so good. It's been in the 80's and I've used it every night for two weeks. i only need to turn it on a half hour before I sleep and the room in very comfortable. If I put in on Low Cool and number 4 to 5 it keeps the room at a steedy 71 degrees all night!! Very Comfortable in this heat!

Easy install, cools and dehumidifies great
Easy installation. Took all of 5 minutes. As you can see I opted to not use the accordion flaps and instead installed plexiglass next to it. Insulat2d all around with foam and it's good to go. Not too noisy by any means...at least no more noisy than our oscillating fan turned on "high." Got our room not only nice and cool but the dehumidifier is awesome. Absolutely reccomend.

Perfect for my 200sq/ft bedroom!

You'll thank yourself, git it!
Awesome little machine, saving me from dying of the jungle-like humidity and heat at night for sleeping. Simple and small, still pretty heavy although I did install it myself. But I'm fairly handy and perform household repairs and the like, so if you're not used to doing this kind of stuff you'll need a helper. Simple controls. Cools my bedroom no problem, fan setting is nice because I don't want to jack up my electric bill toooo much by leaving this thing on a/c setting all night long. I sometimes pre-cool the room on a/c setting then switch it over to fan just before getting into bed. I'll update this review when I get my first electric bill with this thing on it. It doesn't look sexy but a/c units never do. It's small and fairly sleek for what it is. Cord comes out the left bottom of the unit and while it's pretty long I have to unfortunately stretch it across to the opposite wall to reach the outlet and it looks kinda clunky. Hopefully your outlet will be better placed.

Great little a/c - you can plug it into a thermostat
We bought this for a 9x15 enclosed porch with 10 tall windows and morning sun exposure. This little a/c cools it off nicely in Texas summers. It does not have a thermostat with specific fahrenheit degree readings. The thermostat is a dial with a range of 1 thru 7; 7 being "Maximum Cool". However, we ordered a Lux plug-in thermostat into which you plug the a/c (see photo) [ASIN:B000E7NYY8 Lux WIN100 Heating & Cooling Programmable Outlet Thermostat]. It works beautifully. You can program the thermostat for day/evening/weekday & weekend settings for specific temperatures. We did not need to buy a support bracket for the outside (see photo). The a/c comes with instructions, a top bar secured with screws that keeps the a/c from falling out of the window, foam strips, screws, and accordion side pieces to fill in the spaces. For extra security, my husband put a narrow piece of wood into the window above the a/c to ensure no one could open the window further from the outside. We love the compact size and plan to remove it during the winter months, so we kept the box for storage. We are very pleased and have had it for 2-1/2 brutal summer months. I will update this review next summer or if my opinion changes, whichever comes first.
