It's sturdy but light

I purchased this to use with my Ricoh Theta S 360° camera. I wanted a pole that was lightweight, fit in my backpack, and was "twist to lock", without locking latches down the side. This one met all of my needs. It's sturdy but light. The locking is strong enough to hold my camera. With the tripod attached the lens of my Theta S is about 44" above the ground. Collapsed with the camera and tripod attached the total length is just under 23". Collapsed with the camera but without the tripod legs it's under 17" in length. If short on space, the camera can be pivoted 90° to bring the length to around 11". See my images for length details. This pole comes along with some GoPro mount items, as well as a spring loaded, rubber grip phone mount that can easily be screwed on for taking pics with your phone. The phone mount works well with my iPhone 5S.

Sturdy, light weight

This thing is legit especially for the price point. Sturdy, light weight, very versatile. I don't know why GoPro didn't just make one like this. This unit comes with several different mounting options for GoPros and smartphones. The tripod legs can be folded downward in line with the pole/wand portion. The pole/wand is telescoping and can be locked in place in any position by twisting/turning the corresponding section to tighten. The head has a neck portion which can be freed to bend 90 degrees.

This is an awesome pole for your camera/phone. Made out of aluminum so its durable. Extends out just the right amount so its not too long or too short. Its simple to figure out and easy to use. I think this will last me a long time. Smatree makes really good products. I bought their charger hub and had to go back to purchase this As my old one broke

Good product and awesome customer service!

Just received the Q3. Looks solidly made but I have a bit of a concern. I don't won GoPro cameras and I'll be using this mainly with my LG 360 and Gear 360 as well as my Note 4. So I removed the GoPro adapter so I can use this pole by threading it directly to the tripod mount on each of the cameras. I noticed that the thread on the pole side looked bit long. I tried on the LG camera and sure enough, it mounts solidly only by bottoming out on the mount hole on the camera side and not at the end of the pole side threads. I then tried with the cell phone adapter that came in the kit. The pole threads go about 1/8 inch past the end of the hole on the inside. There is a rubber grip that the phone mounts to but since the threads are deforming the floor of the cell phone mount, I'm not sure how securely it will hold. Worse yet, over time the rubber will wear and the sharp thread would come in direct contact with the phones when mounted. Solution would be to simply ground off about 1/8 off the end of the pole side mount threads. But what bothers me is that I just bought this brand new tripod yet I'm not able to fully and safely use it unless I perform modification to shorten the oversized mounting threads. I tried to contact Smatree customer service but all I can find is their Facebook page. I hope someone from Smatree reads these reviews and contacts me. Like I said, the tripod seems well made but for this obviously design flaw. Edit: I was able to contact customer service and their reply was prompt. The agent described a part that was to be installed between the threads on the pole and the phone adapter. It seems that the part is missing in my package so they offered to send me a whole new unit. So overall, I'm very pleased with the purchase experience. Awesome and prompt customer service and like I said in my earlier review the product seems very well made and is backed by the company.

Awesome!

I ordered this specifically to use as a kind of glide cam for my DSLR and it did not disappoint. Obviously, it's not weighted like a glide cam to give it that seamless motion, but for 22 dollars compared to a thousand, i can't really complain. It didn't take long to figure out ways to use it steadily and I'm sure with time I'll figure out even better ways. Plus, i also have a gopro so it's perfect for selfie stick usage. And the size gives me the availability to take it with me everywhere. I wouldn't necessarily trust my DSLR attached to it at full extension given the probability of it breaking the longer it is extended, but then again i don't really need to fully extend it for my purposes. All in all, a great purchase.

Perfect for 360 capture devices

Never thought I would buy a selfie stick, but the recent purchase of a Ricoh Theta S had me needing a slim, sturdy solution for taking 360-degree images/videos without me in the shot. I'm able to screw the included legs on to the base of the stock and mount the Theta on top without fear of it tipping over. The included legs are very durable and not flexible at all. The 1/4-20 mounts on top and bottom are great. You could technically screw this on to a tripod or lightstand to get some added height if you wanted. If you're looking for this to simply be a selfie stick, it has no button or bluetooth connection to trigger a capture. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. Fantastic choice for a 360 Camera

I wanted to get something with a small profile to take advantage of my Gear 360. Normal tripods are fine but have a bit of a footprint in the image (ex. the lower part of the image). I wanted something small and still stable for indoor use. This took the cake. I could set it up anywhere to take shots, and it was really easy to carry around folded down. I definitely recommend it. It can be stiff at first getting all 4 segments open to max length, but once you do it gets easier.

Sturdy mount with many uses

I bought a very similar telescoping mount from the recommendation of a friend. I like this one much better. It seems more strongly built and the fact that I can use something other than my phone to record with is a plus. I can mount my camera to it and it works great. I also use it to mount my webcam to when not using it for other cameras because my dual monitors are at an angle, and this lets me put it dead center and a little higher than it would be on the monitor. Great value and very well built. I'm a fan.

Met my needs perfectly!

I found the Smatree when I was looking for a good adapter to connect my iPhone to the gorillapod I already owned. I had the opportunity to use it yesterday. My kids were participating in a competition and I used the Smatree all day to make recordings of their performances and those of their friends. I also took my gorillapod but never used it all day. It was very convenient to be able to carry the Smatree in my bag. We were in crowded classrooms. It didn't get in anyone's way. It is short, it only comes about waist high. When I had an unobstructed view I was able to tilt my phone in order to properly frame my subject. It is also small enough for desktop use. I was able to place it on the desk and telescope it incrementally to the desired height. I am very pleased with this product.
