I'm a lawyer and recently started working on a criminal case where the crime occurred in the mid-1990's when everyone was still using cassette tapes. When I got the file, guess what? There were a ton of cassette tapes! Well, I haven't had a cassette tape player in years and I wanted to digitize the tapes so I could listen to them on my computer. So I bought this bad-boy. It's simply a basic cassette player with a radio, It's not stereo, but for my needs that was fine. So I plugged a cord into the headset jack and ran it to the microphone jack in my computer. I used Audacity, an open source program for making and managing recordings on the computer, and copied the tapes that way. Worked perfectly for my needs. I didn't really test out the radio too much, but it did pick up local stations fairly well and the sound is good for a mono speaker. I was really expecting it to be a piece of junk, but I am pleased with this purchase. If you need a basic cassette player, this is one to consider. One more thing, it has a cord for AC use that you can store in the battery compartment. It can also use batteries, It uses 4 D cells.

The old system she had was falling apart, couldn't get good reception anymore without roaming the house to find a strong enough signal. Her complaints were getting louder and longer and driving me nuts. Haven't heard a peep from her since she fired it up the first time so it's been well worth having. Should have bought two. Can't get near this one.

This is the second time I've rated this item. I don't know what keeps happening but many of my reviews don't seem to be registering with Amazon. I love that this little thing was made in the USA. It has plenty of motor power for my old tapes (no dragging as all my other players did). It sounds exactly as expected - better than a transistor radio but not as good as a boombox. I would recommend this for anyone who isn't looking for a loud box that has a bass so low the vibration can be felt everywhere!

I bought this as a gift for my 89 year old mother. She has many cassettes she has had for years, that she wants to listen to again but had no tape player. This little boombox works great, is easy for her to use, and has made her very happy. She spends time listening to her music and reliving those good memories. For the money, I could not have purchased a better gift, or a better quality boombox.

I needed a cassette player/recorder for some of the old audio cassettes I have, and to record and play radio programs. Although not expensive, the Jaras is about $10 more expensive than other players I have. The big difference is that so far the Jaras has not "eaten" any of my tapes. The cheaper players "eat tapes" with regularity. The Jaras JJ-2618 has excellent tone and volume for voice recordings and it's definitely worth the additional dollars over players that destroy tapes. I like it so well that I've bought it again--just to have a spare. It's definitely preferable to the cheaper players. So far, it hasn't eaten a single tape, and I promised to update this review if it starts that nasty practice. Glad I bought it, and I also bought it again.

This was a replacement. The first one came without the plug but they quickly made it right. I needed something to play "The Attacking Anxiety & Depression" tapes with Lucinda's and other voices on them. The tapes are from 1997. The sound is perfect for what I need it for. I wouldn't recommend earphones because the tapes have a bit of a background noise that you can't hear while playing the tapes with the speaker. The relaxation tape (although I like the other one she has better) did have some background music and sounded pretty good. I tried a couple of music tapes but they didn't sound good. But it's probably due to tape quality. If I try other music tapes I'll revise. I've had it two weeks but feel fine about possibly buying another one for a family member that also wants to listen to the tapes.

My daughter was thrilled to get this for her birthday as she is a teacher and has a lot of stories on cassette but was unable to share with her students until I bought this for her as her old cassette player had died and it is hard to find a boom box any more. Mostly, all you can find are small hand held units with not much volume. Her students are very happy to be able to hear these stories.

We have this old cassette tape from our mother who passed away 4 decades ago that we've been wanting to listen for the longest time. I finally ordered this product- wow ! amazing to listen on those memorable recording. Good small product to have.

My bed ridden Mom-in-law uses it daily to play her KJV New testament cassettes. I put red tape on the stop button and white tape on the play button and although her hands are shaky she was able to start and stop it no problem.

The Jaras JJ-2618 Limited Edition Cassette Tape Player/Recorder is a blast from the past! I never thought I would be listening to cassette tapes again, but my husband still had some tucked away that we dug out. The Jaras Cassette Tape Player seems like it's well made. I plugged in the power cord (included) and listened to the radio and cassette tapes. It didn't even "eat" the cassette tape! The sound was good. It can also be powered by C batteries (not included). There is a jack to plug in headphones (not included). All the buttons and controls seems to work well. It's fun having a radio that you have to turn the dial, just like when I was a kid. This is a great product for anyone who still has cassette tapes and would like to listen to them! I received the Jaras JJ-2618 Limited Edition Cassette Player/Recorder at a discount for my honest, unbiased review, which I have given to help assist other buyers in making informed purchasing decisions. If you have questions about this product or review, please leave a comment and I'll answer it to the best of my ability.
