Physician and IBS sufferer here
Physician with IBS-D here. My experience with this product has been very good. The next day after taking it for the first time I had my first normal BM in many, many months. I've found Heather's Tummy Tamers to work well also but these seem to have a better enteric coating on them. If taken on an empty stomach and with not too much water, I get no minty reflux at all. The price is more than Heather's, but I'll pay more to avoid the reflux. For those wondering about it, the reflux is because peppermint oil is a smooth muscle relaxant. That's how it works in the gut -- the gut wall is smooth muscle, and in IBS it is contracting too much or too forcefully or not in a patterned way. However, the gastroesophageal sphincter is also smooth muscle, and that is what prevents reflux. Relax it with peppermint and you get reflux. Enteric coatings work by not dissolving in an acidic environment -- like your stomach. However, if you dilute your stomach acid with food or beverage while the peppermint capsule is in there, then the coating will dissolve and you will get the reflux. Hence, take your enteric coated peppermint, whether this product or heather's, 30 minutes to an hour before eating, using enough water be sure you got it down and no more. The "number needed to treat" for peppermint oil for IBS is very low -- around 2.5. That means for every 5 people treated with peppermint oil, 2 will experience benefit. That may sound like a not-so-good number, but actually in pharmacology that is a very good NNT. For comparison, the NNT for prescription antispasmodics like Bentyl and Levsin is in the 3-7 range, which is also quite good, but compare those numbers to something like Xifaxan which has an NNT of 11 and costs $900-1,800 per month and you begin to appreciate that peppermint oil is winner. And with a low cost and low side effect profile, it's almost impossible to beat from a cost/side effect/NNT combined perspective. Give peppermint oil a try. Try Heather's first if you don't have any problems with reflux as Heather's is much cheaper. IBS is multifactorial. If peppermint oil doesn't help you, then gut hypermotility or dismotility is not your problem and you will need to try something else -- FODMAP diet, prebiotics, probiotics, and EXERCISE (that one is for everyone no matter what, of course). If it helps a little, you will need something else in addition to it. And for some lucky folks, this is all you will need.

Highly recommended
I highly recommend this product to anyone suffering from IBS. Im not a spokesperson for this product, but rather, a regular girl that had a very inconvenient problem. It had gotten to the point that I stopped eating lunch at work altogether because It was not always feasible for me to walk away from my desk when my gut was angry. Since taking this medication I can have lunch at work and be a regular person like everyone else. Sometimes if I burp it will taste like peppermint but I’ll take that over what I was going through any day of the week. AWESOME PRODUCT and I hope this review can help someone who is going through what I went through!!!!!

I give this my highest recommendation!
I have suffered since the 80's with IBS—before doctors (mine, anyway) ever had a name for it. I was always told I had a Type-A personality and that it was just stress. I've tried many things. Nothing helped. Finally, a couple of years ago, my gastroenterologist recommended IBGard. I have had NO problems since. I repeat NO problems since.

Worth a shot if you have stomach issues.
My husband has stomach issues. I'm not really sure if its IBS, he's been to several doctors and they're all very vague with diagnoses. He did a few allergy tests, a colonoscopy, stool tests, etc. and nothing really came out of it, they all just end up giving him a generic list of foods that may cause allergies. They've all recommended pro-biotics before and that helped very little. All we know is, very rich foods, red meats, and sometimes just randomly his stomach will hurt and he will need to rush to the bathroom. This makes eating out really uncomfortable when you're always looking for a toilet right after a meal, especially when we're trying new restaurants. But this stuff actually works, I forgot where I had heard of this product from but I'm so glad I did. I always bring a few pills with me and he'll take one if he thinks something we're eating outside is gonna give him trouble. He does try his best to stay away from triggers, but there is always that random occurrence once in awhile. Steaks are always a trigger food so he doesn't eat it a lot, but sometimes he likes to indulge and he will take this pill and be fine afterwards. I know when I get stomach trouble its the worst feeling in the world so I'm so glad he now has something that helps. Definitely worth a shot if you having ongoing stomach issues.

Impressive Relief from Severe IBS Symptoms
I've had bouts of IBS on and off for the past 10+ years and have always had a rather sensitive digestive system but never experienced the severity of symptoms I had after a couple of bouts of either food poisoning or stomach bug. My GI called it post infectious IBS. I write in detail hoping to help others: severe diarraeah many many times per day, horrific intestinal cramping, and passage of mucous to the point of being incapacitated every morning for weeks. I tried a very bland diet which didn't help much. I visited my GI twice over the 3 months that I experienced this and it wasn't until she gave me samples of IBGard that I began to have relief. I was also taking a double dose of Align probiotic daily - the combination of that with IBGard (2 pills) after every meal finally gave me relief and bulked up my BMs. It took a few days to fully kick in but I did have some relief within 24 hours - my intestines felt calm and the cramping was reduced. It took a few more days after that for the cramping to fully dissipate. It's now six weeks or so later and I'm taking one Align a day (the recommended dose) and only one IBGard with each meal. I'm eating almost everything again and drinking coffee with no problems. I plan to wean myself off IBGard soon and just use as needed. I realize it's expensive but nothing else worked. I've never written a review for anything before so I'm hoping this can help someone else who is suffering from digestive issues because you know how awful it is to be afraid to live your life and have to calculate where every bathroom is all the time. Good luck. IBGard + Align was my magical combination.

I'd been walking around looking like I was 7 months pregnant
FINALLY! A product that works! I'd been walking around looking like I was 7 months pregnant. Now tummy flat as a board. I'd spend my last dollar on these over food!

My sh!t don't stink!
I have IBS & Crohn's disease: treatments for the two often seem conflicting ( eat fiber, avoid fiber, etc). My GI gave me samples after I told him my symptoms were a little better while taking a peppermint oil supplement. IBgard is far more effective than the other peppermint oil supplement I had tried. Not only are my pain, bloating & gas much reduced, but an added bonus is that my gas & poop now smell like candy canes! I feel like an elf. Loving this stuff!

VERY EFFECTIVE for IBS symptoms
I have suffered intermittently from severe IBS for over 20 years. This is the first non-prescription medicine that made any difference. After using this product daily for 6 weeks I have had only 2 episodes of IBS and both were after indulging in too many adult beverages so I’m not sure they count. I have SIGNIFICANTLY less cramping, stomach pain and embarrassing gas. Oddly, the hand cramps I’ve had for over a year have disappeared completely. I can poop like a normal human. It is a function not an event. I do sometimes get a slight cool burning sensation after taking it and very strong mint taste. I’ve found taking it with a big drink rather than a sip of water will take care of that. UPDATE 2/2019 Amazed at how well this works. I tried several cheaper alternatives that appeared equivalent. Nope. I take one every day and my IBS has morphed into LTPPAD. (Little Painless Poops All Day)

Best product on the market for IBS - Please Sell in Larger Quantities
I have pretty severe Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and have tried at least 5 different peppermint capsules. IBgard is BY FAR the best product on the market, and I won't use any other capsule again. It is a SYNTHESIZED peppermint capsule and there are NO peppermint burbs or heartburn as I've experienced with other capsules. The downside is the price, but I just get the largest boxes I can as I use so many and it lowers the average price. I use 3-4 capsules a day.
