I was admittedly a little confused between the Commuter series and the other OtterBox products for iPhone X. I've cracked every previous iPhone screen I've ever had and lived with damage to the last one (iPhone 6S) to the point where the plasma started leaking out of the display and there was a giant black spiderweb down the middle of the screen, so I knew this was something I was going to have to have before my new phone even got here. I wasn't entirely sure what this consisted of because I honestly wasn't comparing the products very carefully. It was the right price and it said iPhone X so I ordered it. I was originally a little disappointed to find that this case has no plastic screen protector like the other ones I've had but after thinking about it, the edges of the case are raised around the screen so that you'd have to drop this very specifically onto a table corner or something to really do damage. It comes in two pieces (a harder plastic shell and a softer plastic case that you fit your phone into. It's very easy to assemble, I love the shade of pink that I chose and it fits perfectly into my pocket which my lat phone didn't. It doesn't look like this case is waterproof but I'm not terribly worried about that because I have drybags I can use if I'm planning to go out on the water or I could always upgrade later. I honestly have defaulted to Lifeproof for a few years now but this case may have changed my mind.

Protective But Sleek

This case is great! Sleek but feels protective. It has a "lip" that goes over the phone screen so if you drop it, the case hits the ground first and not the screen. I had no issues with it not fitting as previous reviewers mentioned, this one fits perfectly over the X with no bulges or button alignment issues. I've used the Commuter Otterbox for every previous iPhone I owned and they were always great, so I hope this one continues to work just as well!

I bought the symmetry case clear and it was scratched up in a week. This case has more protection and is just as slim! Weighs more yes, but it’s worth it. 1,000 dollar phone deserves this case. Don’t be cheap! Plus you get the opening in the back for the Apple Logo Works with WIRELESS CHARGING TOO

Ran over my wife’s phone and it doesn’t have a scratch!

Highly recommend this product, purchased this for my wife 2 weeks ago along with the iPhone X. Also had a tempered glass screen protector on it...anyways, I dropped her off at the front door of the house today and after she closed the door she accidentally dropped the phone and it of course landed under the back tire of the car. Unknowingly I proceeded to drive to park and run over it! Thankfully it was perfectly fine! The screen protector however didn’t get so lucky. I’m extremely pleased with the performance of this case! I like it! I got the dark navy case and it looks great on my space black iPhone! It doesn’t make the phone feel bulky and it still feels pretty sturdy. I am not concerned too much about my kids using my phone to play games because if they drop it my phone will be a-ok!

Super durable. Pair with a good screen protector

Super durable. Pair with a good screen protector, phone is pretty much non destructable. I work on navy ships, drop my phone and drop things on my phone. The case itself takes all the blow. Thin enough for your pants pockets but with the strength of the thicker otterbox. Love these!! And the color is super cute

I bought the same one when I upgraded

I had one of these on my 8+ for over a year until I upgraded my phone. This case endured many drops on the corners, the back and the front. It was a bit scared up and scratched but I only broke one screen protector. The bezel is above the level of my screen protector. I work outside and I’m rough on stuff. Maybe I was just lucky? It wasn’t difficult to install or remove for cleaning. It is smooth enough to get in and out of my front pants pocket and still provides a non slip grip. I was impressed enough to order another to fit my iPhone XS. For me, Otter is a smart buy.

Sleek rugged case

I haven’t received my iPhone X at the time of writing this review but the case seems pretty solid. I usually go for thin and light cases but after having shattered my iPhone 7 Plus last year inside a weak flimsy case, I went over to a rugged one and I really liked the piece of mind. Pros: Rugged drop protection Clean design Hard shell back Grippy frame Dust cover on the lightning port to prevent dust from getting inside to the back Cons: No plastic covering the Apple cutout like I was expecting Another thing I will be really concerned about is whether it will fit on the Apple lightning dock but I’ve seen other cases for previous iPhones fit just fine. I really like that the back is a hard shell so I am able to wipe it and return to a clean state. The front is also very grippy where you rest your fingers and I really appreciate that. I really was bummed out that the Apple logo isn’t covered like in previous years. But for the price of the frustration free packaging I can’t complain. I’ll update my review if needed once I get my phone.

Extremely sturdy case with great protection (well almost)

I had an OtterBox Commuter series case on my iPhone 7 for a few years. It was easily installed and provided quite good protection from the occasional drop. The ultimate test came when my phone somehow escaped my jacket pocket while riding my motorcycle at over 40mph. When I discovered the phone was missing, I used the "Find My iPhone" app on an iPad to locate its whereabouts, which were still functioning and I found the phone. Unfortunately, the phone was in the middle of a heavily trafficked street and was run over (screen face down on the pavement) by no less than twenty cars - even a large pick-up towing a boat. After retrieving the phone from the street, I removed the OtterBox case and found that the iPhone frame and metal case were entirely intact without a scratch on it. The screen and motherboard, not so much as they had been ground into the pavement quite well - although the phone would still receive calls and ring; you just couldn't answer or see anything as the display was toast. So much for the plastic film screen protector - it couldn't stand up to multi-ton cars and trucks. I now have a new iPhone and it immediately was put into a new OtterBox case. I'll be stowing it a little more carefully on my motorcycle rides in the future.
