From past experience I have learned with a wife and 3 teenage daughters that these cellphones need protection. The only case we have found that keeps my kids from destroying their phones is the defender. Two have been dropped and run over. The one in the otterbox survived the other one was crushed. 3 have had severe drops the 2 in the defender survived. Now if only they could keep from losing their phones... We swear by this case

Love this case but do be careful that it can screw up the plastic covering on your screen (if you have one). Just put it on the phone carefully. I have another everyday case but this is great for when we go biking or hiking. Or sometimes when I am working in the machine shop. It is a lot of steps to put it on and take it off, but I like it anyway. Very rugged. And a nice color. Looks good with the purple Samsung S9.

I was a bit hesitant because this case does not have the plastic screen protector like the last Otterbox Defender series case I had for my S7, but it makes sense because the S9 has the weird edges. The day after I got this case, my brother accidentally smacked my phone from my hand when we were rough housing and it fell face down on the tiled floors. We gasped and stared at it for a second. I went to pick it up and it was fine! Phew! Anyway, this Otterbox is perfect; very neutral style and not chunky at all while doing exactly what its supposed to-protect your phone!

Pros: I really appreciate the case's texture - it's grippy enough to not slip out of your hand or off surfaces if bumped. It doesn't make the phone look or feel bulky. If you lay the phone face-down, there is a slight lip on the top and bottom of the case that prevents the screen from actually touching the surface you've laid it on. Definitely a well thought-out design. Cons: After 1.5 months of use, the edges that contact surfaces the most are starting to rub/wear very slightly. (See photo) . I have the purple case, and underneath a very dull gray is showing through along the edges of wear. This isn't terribly noticeable and I don't think it detracts from the overall look. I'd much rather the case take on the wear & tear! :-) FYIs It doesn't come with an actual screen protector, but I'm currently using an IQ shield wet-application soft screen protector and have had no issues. The case is somewhat difficult to take off once it is snapped on, but I don't think this detracts from the quality. It's just built to stay in place if it drops!

The color is what I expected. I needed something to hold up with my life and carelessness and this case has done that. The only negative thing that I have to say is the covers for the ports, on the bottom, are a pain to remove to charge. I've had this case for about two months and that covers are still difficult to remove. I have acrylic nails and my boyfriend does not(obviously), but we both have the same problem.

I recently upgraded our Samsung Galaxy S5's to S9's. As a result I purchased 2 different models of Otterbox cases. I found that the Defender covered the phone better, but was still thinner that my old phone/case. This case also covered the edge of the screen protector better. I have never used the screen protectors that were built in to the Otterbox cases, as the floated above the screen and allowed for dust to get it. Contrary to other reviews, our phone/Defender case combo does work with the OEM Samsung Wireless Charger.

I honestly was skeptical about this case because there isn't a glass cover. I had an S6 before this and the Otterbox saved me countless times, so I decided to trust the brand and go with it. I've had several "standard" drops (off my desk, slipped out of my hand, etc) and one or two "scary" drops, one from standing landing glass side down and I've not shattered it of had any device damage. My ONLY complaint is that the port covers are really really snug at first (wreck your new nails snug) but its really worth it. I eventually just stretched them out and most of the time I don't push them in the whole way. I also LOVE the color. Most of the S9 cases that were our for pre-order were BORING but this one is beautiful! Once again otterBox has proven to be worth the cost.

We recently purchased new Samsung S9 phones that needed protection. The Verizon lady didn't want us to leave the store without some protection for the phones. I told her I would be careful and came home and ordered 2 of the OtterBox Defender cases and we are very happy with them. Since the phones have glass backs, we wanted something that would give plenty of protection in case the phones were dropped. Though a little bulky, mine fits in my purse with no problem and my husband can fit his in his pocket. We also purchased tempered glass protectors for the fronts of the phones. The cases work fine with the protectors.

I've had an OtterBox Defender case on every phone I've had since the Galaxy S3 (at least 5 cases). A common issue I've run into is the rubber on the case wearing out within a month or two. I've had to buy at least one replacement for every single Defender case I've ever owned. But, to my delight, it seems they've changed something and that hasn't been a problem for me at all for my S9 so far. I'm not entirely happy with their "no screen protector" design, but it seems all the major case companies are doing that with the curved screen models. I'd say it makes sense, but you can clearly buy screen protectors separately, even from OtterBox. I don't see why it couldn't still be included. But that's neither here nor there. The case as it is is well built and has served me well. All my Defenders have. I've never damaged a phone, despite drops, bumps, and outright chucking across the room. All in all, this version is a great improvement.

I've only had my phone for a day but so far I do love this case. I was a little nervous to order it because my boyfriend has an otterbox for the lg20 and I don't love some parts of the case. It doesn't add to much weight to the phone in my opinion and doesn't feel bulky. The buttons aren't stiff they work great. The only thing that's a little hard is pulling out the tab for the charger and headphone jack, but that will get easier with wear. I also worried that the sides of the case were too low and wouldn't be protected. The top and bottom of the case are raised enough that the screen doesn't actually touch any surface when faced down. (Assuming the surface is flat) I tried turning the phone to the side and still it didn't make contact with the table. This made me feel confident in the cases ability to protect it sufficiently. It doesn't come with a screen so I did go ahead and also get a screen protector. The color of the case looks exactly like I thought it would. I think that's all of my thoughts so far
