• The solution if you are running oversized tires on your 07+ Jeep Wrangler JK and need a full-size spare tire, but don’t want to run an aftermarket rear bumper with an integrated tire carrier
  • Adjustable tire mount holds 37" maximum tire size (up to 135 lbs) while maintaining easy single action of opening and closing of the tailgate
  • Strong monoblock aluminum construction and forged chrome mounting brackets (30% stronger than steel) eliminate tailgate sag
  • No drilling required - you can maintain OE bumpers, if preferred
  • Mounting points for brackets to mount trail jack. Mount (#2844) and Trail Jack (#2722) sold separately

This tire carrier/hinge fits well and was a simple install (shim your tailgate before removing hardware from hinges, this will prevent it from dropping out of place when hinges are removed). The finish compliments the Jeep and appears to be heavy duty and durable but time will tell how it stands up to the elements and use. I currently have a 35” tire mounted and the door operates freely and feels solid when closed with no rattles or squeaks.

The seller (Wundercarparts) sent in very quickly. 5 stars for them! The actual tire carrier is pretty great. It seems very durable and has given me some peace of mind. The 35s on my stock carrier were a disaster waiting to happen. It shook horribly, especially on washboards. The pivot carrier seems to be very well made and strong. I also like that you can mount some accessories on it. I have some ideas on how to attach my treds and shovel. The only thing I don’t like are the instructions. I read the reviews that said they were bad...I just wasn’t prepared for how bad they really were. Despite the bad instructions, I would buy this again and recommend it to my friends.

I've had this on my Jeep for about 3 months now. No complaints. The tailgate opens and closes with ease, no say or having to lift the gate to close it. The hinges feel very solid. Everything is of high quality. I live in an area of the country that gets rain, snow and ice, they salt the roads from October to February. The finish held up nicely, no bubbling or flaking.

I was skeptical about purchasing this item at first, mainly because there was not a lot of information available about the fit/finish. After mounting it up, I can say that I am extremely satisfied with the product, the instructions that came with the product are absolute garbage, and I even had to call into the company once to get an explanation of where the rubber gaskets go. But after having this product installed and on the vehicle for a couple of months, there has been not rattles, nothing has come loose, and it is still rock-solid. I have a 33in General Grabber and 17in steel wheel mounted on the back, and it doesn't bump/vibrate, or rattle.

This carrier is awesomely heavy duty. Way better than the stock carrier. The instructions weren't great - like everyone else said - but you can find clear detailed instruction with color photos - for free on the Internet with a quick search. Install didn't take too long. When I built mine, I left half the bolts on the spare carrier off and the others loose so I could see what adjustments I needed to make - in / out or up / down. Then made the adjustments before installing the rest of the hardware and torquing it down. So far nothing rattles and the tailgate works just as well as before. Just much beefier.

Instructions are far from good. Even after watching the You Tube videos, I found parts were left out. I am very mechanically inclined but still had to take the time to check everything a couple of times. The carrier is rock solid and when done correctly works like glass. Best advise is to make sure the gate is blocked very well and I would also tape where the gate meets the body to insure no movement when removing the original hinges and installing the new carrier. Take your time and the carrier / hinges will work smoothly. Love the product once I had it installed properly. BOL

We put this smittybilt 2843 spare tire carrier kit on a 2008 Jeep Wrangler JKU. We had already done the original Teraflex version of this kit on a 2014 Jeep Wrangler JKU. This smittybilt kit compares in every way to the teraflex except for one. The smittybilt has just slightly less adjustment for pulling the tire against the gate than the teraflex. This is the only real difference in the designs. The Teraflex using a sliding barrel to set the pull distance toward the gate while the smittybilt has 4 bolt locations for this same function. Again, worked just as well. Both are quality products. Both arrived in good condition and on time.

I installed this today and am pleased with it, it replaces the weak worn out hinges and spare tire holder, I don't know how it could be made any stronger, its a bit difficult to figure out the instructions at first and needs to be installed and reinstalled a few times to get it all lined up for your own tire, bumper, rim combo but not too bad, if you add 2 new hinges and spare tire holder from mopar this is bargain and much stronger.

Solid Product, set up is a bit of a pain but i will say this is a stout carrier. fyi during install place a 2x4 or some piece of wood between the swing gate and the bumper during install to help hold the door up. The instructions say to use tape but the door will slide down a little bit making the closing of the swing gate harder.

Great product, very strong material. Installation was fairly easy, i did it by myself. The hardest part of the install is adjusting the tire mount bracket to the right space. Instructions that came with it aren't good enough.
