We've been having a lot of cold temps along with snow and ice making the sidewalks very treacherous. Some of the snow is heavy, wet snow. There's been some thawing and refreezing making the walkways even more dangerous to navigate. So those are the conditions that lead up to me looking on line for ice melt. The order came fairly quickly, was in perfect condition and was easy to apply as it is pellets. I don't know if we put too much down but we haven't had to apply more for several days now. It's keeping the sidewalks clear of snow and ice! We've had some more snow fall too since the first application! It's nice to know the fall risk is minimized. I didn't think the 25# bucket would get us though the rest of winter and ordered a second. I might have been wrong there; a little goes a long way!

Great product. As a homeowner it is important for me that the salt doesnt break of the concrete in front of my home. This Ice melt is hard to find in the state of Virginia. I have order this more than twice. This product does what it is suppose to do. But dont be fooled by the quantity as it is not a lot. My home plot size is 10,000 sq feet and I use this on about 2,000 sq feet. You need a good amount to make sure that the snow and ice melt.

The stuff that works. We had freezing rain and pellet snow followed by -12 degrees. After scrapping off the "snow" I applied the calcium chloride. The ice disappeared into the air (sublimated- fancy word). My driveway and walk were dry, while my neighbors using the cheap stuff had skating rinks. It takes much less of this product to work, about a quarter or a third. Multiply the cost of the cheap stuff by three and you have a break even situation.

We are having the winter of the century and the amount of ice and ice dams is way off the charts, for our part of the country. I had been using some ice melt I got a the local grocery store and it was working fine, well with my limited experience with melting ice. The entire town was out of ice melt and so I ordered this online. I received it about 5 days later. Our ice dam problems were only getting worse. Water was running down the outside of our walls in several spots and I was fearful we'd start seeing the same thing inside my home soon. I picked a part of the roof that was worst and braved the ladder climb and poured about 2 scoops of this on an 18 inch deep dam that went back up the roof for about 3 feet. Poured a 4 inch wide layer about a quarter inch thick. Before I got off the ladder, a waterfall of melt-off had started. I'd never seen anything like it. It was 10 degrees outside as well. After 2 hours it stopped dripping so I thought I needed to repeat the process. It was late so I went up the next day with another scoop and all I saw on that 4 inch wide path was bare roof. I was like the grand canyon had been cut through a glacier. So I'm very very impressed. I'll have a bucket of this at the beginning of every winter from here on out.

Chicagoland was supposed to get 5-8 inches of snow last weekend. So in typical fashion I was on Amazon buying a shovel Friday morning. I also shopped for de-icer, snow brush & I got it in my head that I needed a giant bucket of rock salt. That's when I came across this product. It all arrived Sunday afternoon as the snow was starting. It's a big bucket. You have to rip a strip of plastic from around the top to open it so you should have a screwdriver handy. As you rip the strip off it creates 4 tabs that secure the lid when closed. I bought the Rubbermaid scoop & it works great. So the snow came in two waves Sunday of about 3-4 inches each. Only had the opportunity to shovel the first 3". As it started snowing again I figured I'd try the pellets. What could it hurt? So at 9PM with a fresh inch of snow on the ground I got half a scoop of pellets and headed for the door. I have a cement front porch with 4 steps. I shook out the scoop to cover the small porch and most of the steps. The pellets remind me of the tiny white beads you'd find in an old bean bag from the 70's only larger. So I shook it out into the snow. Of course it disappeared. I stood there for a minute. Not sure what I was expecting. Well it was anticlimactic to say the least. I shrugged and closed the door. The next day I opened the door and white my sidewalk and driveway were covered in 3 more inches of snow my entire front porch and all of the stairs were 100% snow and ice-free! In fact about 6" of my front walk was clear also. No residue, no color. The cement looks wet but it's not even slick. No texture. You can't tell I used anything, MAGIC! Tuesday I worried with the extreme low temperatures that it would somehow freeze so I got out the remainder of my rock salt and shook it onto the porch. All that did was make a mess because that stuff doesn't vanish, it creates a white visible mess and the salt is STILL there 2 days later. It's supposed to snow again so I'm going to pour some onto the sidewalk & driveway. I used this strait from the container just like I'd use rock salt so I can't talk about diluting it in water. I don't see any drawbacks. It may not be safe for pets? Magic Pellets seems to fit.

After a recent blizzard, one of our idiot neighbors saw me using this where my boyfriend had finished shoveling and told me, "That won't work! It's too cold!" Like I said, the guy is an idiot. There is no ice anywhere on our property thanks to this stuff. I look forward to him slipping and breaking an arm on his driveway.

This stuff works wonderfully. It doesn't crack my asphalt driveway and it keeps the ice off every time with only a small application.

Calcium chloride is the only thing I trust on my concrete!!! Any other salt just destroys concrete! It's safe for my cats to step on and I don't have the eating away of my concrete as I used to when using regular "so-called" safety salts!

The new improved top is much better and substaintally easier to open. I use this "salt" with the $15 Scotts Wizz Hand-Held spreader from Amazon and it works like a charm with minimal work. It works within minutes and within 2 minutes you can see a major difference. I covered my fairly large driveway with a whole bucket (you can use less depending on you set the opening to be on the spreader) and my driveway is completely snow free and black within 10 minutes. Definitely recommended, especially with how quick it works! A++

I purchased this product to replace an existing de-icing product I had been using which had the potential to damage my concrete walks driveway and adjacent shrubs and landscaping. I also wanted it to address snow and ice accumulation on my roof, especially in the valleys and near the gutters where ice dams have formed in the past. It worked great on my hard surfaces at melting the ice quickly. For the roof, I took the suggestion from another review and put about one cup of the granules in a paper lunch bag, taped the end with painters tape and tossed three on the roof into the valleys with the expectation that the moisture would dissolve the bag and allow the granules to start melting the ice. Two of landed intact, while one broke apart and dispersed the granules nicely. The snow and ice started to melt immediately from the bag that broke apart. I am uncertain about the performance of the two bags that remained intact. I found one on the ground, tape intact but the bag was empty. The granules may have dissolved and seeped through the paper bag without the bag disintegrating. Not sure. When ice dam conditions come again, I will try using tissue paper instead of paper lunch bags hoping the tissue will dissolve and allow the granules to do their work. This was a lot easier than working on the ice dams with a 28 foot ladder outside in the middle of winter. Oh by the way, the lid was easy to remove once the plastic sealing strip was pulled completely off with pliers. A slow and steady pull completely around the lid worked fine.
