Very nice set for this price

Mine came with no issues at all. No broken pieces or anything wrong. Very nice set for this price. The price is so reasonable I can't really find any complaint, quite happy with it. Already played a game. The pieces could be a little more weighty but again at this price threshold they are perfectly fine. The board doesn't sit 100% flat but it's totally flat enough to play on without any issue. I may stick on small thin rubber feet to make it sit perfectly flat but then it likely won't clip closed without maybe slightly bending the clip. Again, it's like 99% flat.

Excellent set for the price, as long as you know it is smallish

Got this for my 6-yr-old twin grandsons to start them on chess. Great set. All stores away with little straps to hold each piece so it is crystal clear if you are missing a piece before you close and lock the box. We haven't travelled with it, but it would work well to travel with I think. The wood is nice and downright excellent for the price. The only downside is that the pieces are not as weighty as I would like. For kids they do tend to fall over a bit so in hind sight I think a full-size 3.75" King set would be better for young beginners. But this is a nice quality set for the cost. And it keeps the pieces well (not a small feat with kids). And it looks nice on the table.

Exactly right!!

This chess set is exactly what I was looking for as I would like to begin a long distance chess relationship with my 6 year old grandson as he lives in California and I reside in Minnesota. I am sending him the set since it is such a great beginner set and hopefully he will not only like having his own chess set, he will also fall in love with the game of chess! Since my grandson is obviously just learning the game, I wanted a set that was easy to use, not plastic or cheap looking! I am not a fan of online shopping so I am ALWAYS a little apprehensive when ordering something from a picture but I was so pleased when I opened the box and it was exactly what I hoped it would be! I even love the outside box it comes in--so classy!! As a side note, I would also like to mention that the customer service is exceptional! I received an e-mail from an actual person--not a robot!--to make sure I was satisfied with their product and they even included a chess manual to download! How wonderful!!

Beautifully crafted set and amazing price

We bought this set for my young son for his birthday, and it is BEAUTIFUL! I could not believe the level of quality of craftsmanship, especially for the price. And the company has been phenomenal. They sent us a free eguide to help as he learns to play and also let us know that it is incredibly easy to order replacement pieces if one goes missing. We’re enjoying the set so much!

Great price high quality

My son got quite a few chess sets for Christmas. I purchased him this one and this set is by far his favorite. It is extremely well made, the case has a wonderful wooden aroma when you open it, and it looks expensive. All of the peices are snugly secured with bands, and the company even emailed a digital video teaching not only the basics, but also advanced strategies. It was a much better price than the other sets he got and hands down looks more lux than the others. I highly recommend this.

Attractive set, great value;free pdf book and replacement pieces!

My teenage granddaughter requested a chess set and I looked through my , many sets before I chose this one and it has exceeded my expectations. Considering the prices of chess sets, this is a remarkable buy for the money. Although the box is not heavy wood, it is quite nice and the pieces are very nice.I know my granddaughter will be proud to carry .t with her. The company also send a pdf chess book via email after the set arrived and generously offers to replace any pieces that go missing. I am impressed.

Well put together.

The chessboard is put together very nicely. I can tell care was taken to assemble each piece of the board as there are no apparent evidence of putty in the seams. The board is light weight and feels like it might not be ultra durable, but a Chessboard is not something that is supposed to take a lot of abuse. The pieces are organized nicely inside the board when it is folded for transport or storage. The felt on the bottom of the pieces is a nice touch. I am happy to have such a nice board that I can take anywhere.

It's a pretty good little chess set for the price

I needed a set to play with my granddaughter, nothing fancy but not cheap looking either. After reading the reviews, I thought I'd take a chance. After all, it is Amazon and I can always return it right? So I ordered this one and was very pleased with what arrived. Yes, if I knit-picked, I could say that one of the felt pieces on the bottom of the Bishop was not completely glued down (a small part was folded under so didn't get glued---so easy to fix) and if I looked really hard, I bet there are other slight imperfections, but for $26.99 it is a pretty good, real wood, set with a felt liner to the box. The board opens to a flat surface (also real wood) and I can't find anything wrong with the case. All in all, I am completely satisfied and will get lots of use out of it I am sure. I would recommend it if you want something nice and simple that will store your pieces nicely and is made well.

A very attractive wood chess set, better than I expected

It was better than I expected, a really nice wood set. It looks good, the board lies flat, and the board closes up nicely with all the pieces inside. Everything good with this seller and with this product. Inside the board (which folds up) there is a place for each piece. That's nice and many will appreciate it, but I actually took them out and put them in two pouches (one for white, one for black) rather than remove each piece before each game and reinsert them after. But it does make sure you have all the pieces before you put the set away. The only suggestion I'd make (but it would raise the price a little) is to have some attractive case to put the chess box in. The cardboard box it comes with works fine, but this would be another nice touch.

It's fantastic value for price

Was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of this set. It's fantastic value for price. I purchased it for my twelve-year-old son who is quite interested in the game. He was thrilled to receive it and has enjoyed playing with it. The storage inside is very straightforward and nice and the materials have a nice feel to them. So far so good. I think in the long run there may be problems with the hinges and latches (they are rather small) so take care of this set. Don't drop or step on it. Take care of it and it should last a very long time.
