Because of the % of 1 & 2 star reviews, it was prudent to wait a couple of months to post a review. Those with the "We told you so" flags in your pockets can put them away as our experience with this product has been completely stellar. The size of the grip and the location of the locking trigger is ideal for big hands such as mine. All the others we've tried, including the higher priced models, allowed for three, maybe four inserted fingers. Because I sometimes walk both our dogs by myself using a dual connector with just this one leash, the product does not falter an iota in its operation. It seems as though, according to the 1 and 2 star reviews, if it doesn't work out of the box, replace it until you get one that works. With Amazon's replacement warranty, it's only a little inconvenience of time. Grabbing a second one today (sale price is stupid silly low) as a backup to be left in the car.

First, I have to mention the packaging was super easy to remove! I have cut myself with the plastic packing in the past, but these folks created an easy to open product. Thank you! Now, the leash is heavy duty, well made and easy to retract. The feel is one of a well-made, expensive product. If I ever need another, I will definitely get this one! Oh! I read questions about dogs biting through their leash and ruining it; I bought a great sour apple spray that I squirt onto my hand and rub onto the leash. Our puppy doesn't like to taste and so far has stopped biting the leash.

I received the retractable dog leash. It is very comfortable on your hands with the dog pulling not like some that cramp your hands. It came well packaged in perfect condition. The leash it's self is wide with nylon webbing instead of cord. I happen to have a dog that chews. Although he hasn't touched this one yet I have the confidence that it is much stronger than the corded ones. I was going through those regularly. I like it so much I ordered a second one for our second dog. Very pleased

Overall, I like this leash for my dog. She isn't a puller so she respects the retractable abilities. The ribbon seems sturdy and doesn't curl or kink when it's retracting, even if it does so quickly. This leash is a little heavier than my previous retractable, but this is also the first one I've had that's the ribbon style. My dog seems to respond to the additional weight by the way she walks. She tends to stick a little closer to me with this leash, which isn't really a bad thing. My husband has stated that he has a hard time fitting his hand in the holder and he's not a big guy. The locking mechanism is easy to engage, though I'm a little concerned as to it's longevity ability. It feels a little flimsy to me, but only time will tell. It does it's job. The only real issue I have is that there isn't anything near the clip to stop the line - meaning, when I go to attach the leash to my dog's collar, I have the whole leash in her face unless I pull out the leash, lock it, then clip it. My other leash didn't fully retract into the device so it didn't hit her face when I attached it. Besides that, I really like it so far!

Heavy Duty Retractable Dog Leash By Hertzko - Great for Small, Medium & Large Dogs up to 110lbs - Strong Nylon Ribbon Extends 16ftComfortable to hold, locks easily, holding up to the weight of 2 dogs pulling. This is my go to leash every time I walk the dogs. We have 7 different leashes with which to walk our 3 dogs, and this is the one I use every time (if I can find it, the kids leave them in various places). It is high quality, heavy duty, the "ribbon" never gets stuck, always glides out and back fluidly. The handle is comfortable, the locking mechanism is easy to work, both to lock and unlock (I have one that sticks and is hard to lock and another one that all I have to do is bump it and it unlocks). And like the manufacturer/seller says, it does stand up to the pulling of two dogs (and I'm not talking the teacup variety). I can walk our smallest dog (approx 20lbs) easily as well as our two larger dogs at the same time (35lbs and 80lbs). This leash shipped quickly and was packaged so as not to be damaged in transit. I highly recommend this leash.

Riley says this was great on the beach at the Outer Banks. Although he already had a couple long cord models, this spool is so much smoother spinning that he barely noticed it/ Quick retracting too for when Dad said he needed to heel for a bit while a car or some kids went by. Riley tested, Riley approved.

Got this at a great price after going through countless retractables that have broken or worn out much faster than anticipated. My dog is 40 lbs and I think he believes that he is walking *me,* by the way that he tries to pull me around. This is the only retractable I have found that is comfortable, durable, and long enough for him to explore - but the locking system is quick, easy and doesn't wear out! It works every single time and is easily accessible - great if you have a chaser, a puller, or an explorer who gets into something naughty. The handle area of the leash is made of nice sturdy material. Doesn't feel like it's going to come apart at all, even in situations where I have to use the lock quickly and regain control. I have seen complaints regarding the noise the lock makes, but that, to me, is literally the least important thing I can think of to complain about or even think about when searching for a good retractable dog leash for a medium sized to large sized dog. Maybe that's just me. It didn't even cross my mind until I saw it in other reviews. It sounds like something being locked - a little click. If it makes any other noises, I didn't notice. We don't really have the time to dissect every little sound - too busy having fun! Anyhow, the actual "leash" is made from nylon I believe, feels very strong is and able to withstand the pulling and tugging when necessary. It is 16 ft long (!!), which is fantastic for when we are fishing, so he can feel like he is still free, but won't become Alligator food or shark bait while we are casting, reeling in, etc. Seller shipped quickly and for the price it is hands down the best retractable leash I've purchased within the past 4 years or so...and I have purchased plenty, believe me! We haven't used it when bike riding yet, however, after being so pleased with this product, I can't imagine it will disappoint. THANK YOU! 5 Stars! P.s. If you are looking for advice as to what *kind* of leash to use for your medium to large sized dog (or a doggy who pulls excessively, or both), I have come to the conclusion, after research and trial and error, that I like having my classic 4 ft. leash, by KONG (another fantastic product) for certain circumstances/situations, and my 16 ft. retractable leash for others. They both come in handy and I use them equally, depending on what we are doing or where we are going. I hope this helps. :)

We have a 50 pound dog that runs and pulls (hard) and this is a strong leash. We got this after our previous retractable leash (another brand) stopped working. The leash itself is sturdy and retracts smoothly into the device without getting into any kinks or knots (which is a problem we had with another brand). The button allows you to temporarily and/or permanently lock the length, which is perfect if your dog loves to explore and you need to call your dog to your side when a car is coming down the street. Our previous retractable leash brand only had a button for a permament lock, but the temporary feature is really useful. When we need to shorten the leash, we hold the button and give a short tug to call our dog back. A couple of successive motions, and our dog is by our feet. We then simply lock the leash

So far, i am impressed and loving my retractable leash :) feels great in the hand and feels solid. I will update my review after some extended use... I have 5 happy standard poodles and a giant schnauzer, so there is going to be lots of love :) I look forward to the kids being able to run around with a dog at the city park, but it still be on a leash. With a standard 6 foot leash, the dog runs too fast for the kids and they crash into each other :/ lots of tears. Hoping this retractable leash makes play easier! Update: I've used it several times now. Love it. Comfortable in my hand and the the dog has a great time :) the button is very easy to use so if I get in a situation where I want the dog to stay close to me I press the button and slide it forward. It is then locked and the leash no longer is adjustable. Happy with my purchase. Update#2... Still works great, but... I brought one of the standard poodles to home Depot. A, evidently, really scary lady with big frizzy hair came up to greet the dog. Scared the dog and it took off. I didn't have the line locked, so she ran until it ran out of line, and nearly knocked me to my rear! Didn't break the leash, which is great! Glad I had a firm hold. But, I hadn't considered before, the impact of momentum. It's easy to control a 45lb dog, but when it's running as fast as it can, and suddenly runs out of line :/ takes some strength to hold on. Definately more than a kid could control. Goofy dog has done that to me twice now, and for her, I am no longer going to use this leash. The second time I did fall and got a sizeable bruise to show for it. I am a slow learner, clearly. Leash is still in great shape though and functioning perfectly. Update: it's now May 2019, and the leash still works perfectly and looks new. Two years of use and no problems at all. Thinking about buying a second one so I don't have to share :) great leash!

Not sure why 2 questions on the leash having a lock feature. My old retractable leash was fraying a bit so wanted to order a new one. My dog is 20 lbs, trained, normally walks at heel beside me unless chasing squirrels in the middle of the park. She is my service dog and extremely reliable. She knows if she’s on work detail or if free to run a bit. I prefer retractable leashes as she can stay distant when there is a larger dog approaching. I was very pleased to find the clasp on this leash is smaller then the last one. Important when on duty I use the front lead on her harness and was happy to find the clasp pivots to prevent tangling when the leash feeds back into the case. The ribbon is wider then the last leash, as is the opening, which has a divot to also prevent the leash from twisting when it feeds back. The lock feature works the usual way, my last leash locked by pulling the button back, counterintuitive to many but I preferred that as it went with the stay gesture I would use with a dog, so still adjusting to the difference. Once locked I have not noticed any slippage. I generally just lock the leash at the vets, and when she’s on work mode in a mall or store.
