Surf and Turf Salt Block Cooking
My block arrived on time and in very good condition. Cooking on a pink Himalayan salt block for the first time. I was a little nervous after reading reviews about how it can explode if you heat it up too fast the first time you use it. It is recommended you bring these up to temperature slowly on a gas stove or grill. I have an electric stove so I purchased two Quiche Pans (Round) with Removable Bottom to put over the burners, and it worked well to create an air gap. The scallops and shrimp were amazing on the salt block, but I recommend you drain the food well and pat dry with a paper towel before cooking. The more moisture in the food the saltier your food will be. I also recommend using an Infrared Thermometer to test the temperature of the block. I cooked my steaks at 450° for two minutes on each side for a nice medium rare. The holder made it easy to bring the block from the stove to the table as a warming plate. You don't need to put dish soap on the plate to clean it because the block is naturally anti-microbial. I used a little water and lightly scrubbed it with a stainless steel scrubber, and than wiped it dry with a paper towel. I'm not sure this is what is recommend to clean it, but it worked good.

Love it!
I didn't know what to expect when I bought this but I love to grill. This thing did heat up quickly and evenly and it perfectly seasoned my food during cooking. This is pretty heavy so be ready to weightlift when moving it around, but that is to be expected since it is a giant block of salt. The surface area can hold a total of 3 kabobs at one time, so it isn't super large, but any bigger and it would be too heavy. My advice: buy 2, you'll love them!

2 year anniversary review: Great for cooking or serving
I bought this Feb 29, 2016. Two years later I have cooked steaks, fish, shrimp & scallops with it. I've also used it to serve cheese and charcuterie. Two years on the stove top, in the oven and on the gas grill has totally made the block worth the purchase price. Salt blocks require a long lead time for cooking because you need to slowly heat them up, but can be cooked at very high heat. Because of their weight, they do a great job holding heat (or staying cold if chilled). After two years of careful, but hard use, there are visible fractures forming that I'm sure will someday lead to a crack. Imparts a great flavor, sears well, and makes for good presentation theater when cooking.

Good customer service
My dad loves to grill and we bought this for him as a sort of "novelty" since he's never used it before. He really liked it! It gave a pretty good taste to the food. We had a slight issue with the cracked salt plate for our first one, but the seller was great and sent us a replacement plate free of charge. They got back to me really quick too even though I e-mailed them. Would buy again.

Best thing to ever happen to grilled food!
We purchased the salt block upon recommendation of the flyer thay came with our salmon filet purchase from the Treasure Truck and got it for a very good price. Since I was wishy-washy as to whether to get it or not I let a full day pass before I bought it along with the suggested accoutrements--salt block cover and scraper. I have seen and heard of the himalayan salt plate phenomena and seeing a good price on Amazon convinced me to try and see if it was all worth the hype. I had my reservations as a lot of the reviews I saw were more of warnings and sad stories of how their salt blocks disintegrated and broke the first time they tried. Well I did my research pretty well and made sure to follow the included instructions TO THE LETTER to make sure the salt block does not give in to extreme heat and it did work! I did not add salt or seasoning to the salmon filets and they tasted great! To date I must have used the thing a dozen times and it still is intact. I love cooling with the salt block now and I use it to cook beef, chicken, pork, and vegetables like brussels sprouts and leeks. So worth it!

Absolutely my favorite Christmas gift in years
Absolutely my favorite Christmas gift in years! I've had it less than 2 months and have used it more than 20 times. Doesn't do much for red meat (although it made the most tender flank steak i've ever had) it is AMAZING for seafood and fish. Catfish, pink shrimp, Cod all pick up a touch of the salty flavor and a ton of others. It takes some planning to use because it has to be heated slowly, especially if humidity is high, but so worth it. I want to try it with Chicken. I find fresh lime juice and cilantro blend with the salt plank flavoring very well.

Beautiful and large salt block for grilling
Beautiful and large salt block for grilling. Came very securely packaged in a cardboard protective sleeve with no chips or damage. The salt block itself is a great color and looks very impressive when used as a serving tray. This is a great gift for someone who loves to cook and grill but seems to have everything they already need. I bought this for my dad because he loves using different salts while grilling meat. This is a great way to introduce a new method of cooking!

Wonderful!
Absolutely fabulous! Heated the salt block slowly on charcoal grill by placing all coals on one side of the grill....15 minutes no coals, 25 minutes in the middle, and about 5 minutes a little closer to the hot side. We cooked two t-bone steaks with no seasoning for 10 minutes. We tried to leave the lid open so the block didn't get too hot, but it started raining, so we had to close it, but just closed all the vents. Definitely need the carrier...don't know how you could carry the block without it....very heavy...we cooked with the block in the carrier and had no issues. The steaks were absolutely fantastic with just the block as seasoning. They needed NO steak sauce or additional seasoning, and that's saying a lot because I always eat steak with steak sauce! Can't wait to try it again with seafood and veggies!

If you haven't cooked on a salt block you need to.
If you haven't cooked on a salt block you need to. The hotter the block the less salty the food. I use this primarily for fish, but it works for beef and chicken as well. Clean it with a wire brush, but don't use any chemicals and never water since it will dissolve it. I left my first one out in the rain by accident and it was gone the next day... yeah, not smart, but it was an accident...

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT> I use it 4 or 5 times a week.. I LOVE IT!! I've become so excited and creative w my cooking. I put it on the gas stove and put my timer on for 9 minutes while burner is on low.. I do that 4 more times - 9 minute intervals - each time raising the flame a bit higher to gradually heat it up.. I'll cut veggies right on it while it's heating and sometimes leave them there for a few minutes so they absorb some of the seasoned block. ONE WARNING - My husband thought he could put the whole unit, black tray & all on the burner.. I took the black tray out.. That's only for serving - just a reminder.
