I had never heard of these things until I built gates for the deck and went looking for a latch. It really does take the hit when the gate closes, presumably it takes some of the impact away from the latch so it will last longer. May make the gate less likely to warp.

Get two if you have a vinyl gate

Boerboel Gate Stop 73014321 If you have a vinyl gate, install (at least) two on each gate -- above and below the gate latch. See Customer Image. Without these excellent gate stops, a quickly closed vinyl gate (wind or slamming) could rip the latch screws out or even over-extend the gate and damage the hinge connections. These appear to be the best gate stops on the market.

They are well made and coated material for quality and should be a long lasting item.

Does a great job at keeping my vinyl fence gates in place (as stops). I'm very happy with them and they are very attractive as they match the black gate hinges.

High quality hardware item

This gate stop is partially covered with a rubber-type material so it not only stops the gate from swinging past the stop point, it keeps it from banging. It has a simple, clean design and looks nice on my gate.

I like the quality and the padding

Really works well stopping my gate which swings shut by the wind sometimes since this is padded. The padding helps a lot and it is a sturdy gate stop.

Worked well for standard fence gate

Worked really well for my standard gate. My latch kept getting beaten up, now this thing takes the force of the gate closing. I used wood screws instead of the included ones.

Looks and works great.

I wasn't excited to add more hardware to my sleek modern fence, but this gate stop works and looks great. The sleeve is soft and rubbery which helps protect the fence and makes for a softer close of the gate. I attached a strong magnet on the fence side and it holds the gate closed even with the rubbery sleeve (but not strong enough to keep it closed on a very windy day - I think it would without the sleeve). The metal and screws are black, not silvery charcoal as they appear in photo.
