This chainsaw is amazing. Very quiet and easy to service. I highly recommend buying extra oil as this saw goes through it rather quickly. Also get extra batteries if you plan on heavy use.

2 Years Later...WOW! All those years with gas was just stupid looking back. Unless you are a lumberjack or have 20 acres of wooded forest to look after...I'm not sure why you would choose gas when this is available. Its been great for the last two years...Today, it was put to the test. Three Hours of cutting everything for one inch to ten inch including about 10 4X4 pressure treated cedar posts. This never hesitated. It took four battery swaps and five re-fills of chain lube...but, easy enough; Unless you don't have extra batteries. Super Quiet and and only runs when you pull the trigger! Again...Why Gas?? We are in 1/2 acre wooded lots, so neighbors are happy. And blowing through this pile in a few short hours makes for quite a few enjoyable nights by the fire.

Quite pleased so far. I read all the reviews and had some concerns, but this saw is not a replacement for my gas chain saw, and I already have a 40V blower and weed trimmer, so this was a perfect fit for my arsenal of lawn/land care hardware. Likely not as robust at my gas saw, but I mainly bought it for the small jobs that don't need a constant running saw. A bit heavy, but still safer for rope and ladder work than corded or gas. As for the issues that are commonly addressed: 1.) I removed the chain cover before the first use to INSURE that there was indeed a chain retainer in place. No problems there. 2.) I'm very familiar with gravity feed oiling systems, so to prevent unnecessary loss during storage, I hang the saw on the wall on it's left side (keeping the chain oiling port at the top of the compartment). No problems with oil leaking out the fill cap. It's awesome as a "quickie" tool, and is much nicer to use as a limbing saw that often gets put down while I clear debris away. Pricey for what I use it for, but once you get past the cost, it's a very nice addition to the tool shed.

I had a 70 foot tree fall in my yard from a neighboring plot. First let me tell you that if it falls on your yard it is your responsibility to remove it anywhere in this country. So I decided I would remove it myself versus paying someone more than what this saw cost. I am 68 years old. This bad boy cut right through it. I cut up everything into 18 inch logs until the battery died with only about 8 feet left. That is a lot of limbs and a trunk that was more than one foot diameter. Easy to handle. A lot better than constantly pulling a string to start. Just push as button. And I have had no problem with chain oil leaking. One of my best buys ever...

this chainsaw is a perfect saw for homeowners who only need one for light occasional use. with that said I have used this now for about a year and have had several large ash and cottonwood trees fall in my yard. It had no problem with this until the tree diameter got over 30 inches then it became more difficult and a larger saw should have been used. I have several other 40V dewalt tools so I have 3-6Ah batteries to use along with this saw. with the three batteries I can use this saw pretty much continuously for hours without having to wait for a battery to finish charging by the time my current one is dead. realistically this saw is not for those who aim to cut a trailerload full of firewood or use it heavily thoughout a day or everyday. this is meant for a few cuts here and there and this works well as there is no worries with dealing with old gas or hard starting saws. with my experience with the saw I would rate it equivalent to a decent 3-400 dollar gas powered chainsaw. I really like this saw and would recommend it to anyone who only needs a chainsaw a handful of times a year. or a couple times everyday. I haven't had any problems with the saw other than the bar tensioning device seems to loosen after several cuts however this is not a problem since it takes a brief second to grab it and twist it back tight again

This saw continues to exceed my original expectations. Plenty of torque. Plenty of run-time. Quiet. Not only is this a great saw functionally, it sheds the inconvenience of a two-stroke. With instant-on full torque, you can more objectively plan your cuts because you don't have a two-cycle engine idling in your hands. You don't have to also have a gas mixture can around. You can set it down anywhere at any time because it is not hot, and there is no fuel tank to spill. I routinely get about 45 minutes of work out of a charge, by which time it's time for a break anyway.

As a former guy that cut firewood for a living, this product is an amazing tool. Tired of tuning and mixing gas and oil, I decided to give technology a try, and I am impressed. To push a button to start, that is a game changer. The point of actually cutting wood is what makes this chainsaw such an essential part of my outdoor projects. It is flawless. Straight and clean cuts. Plenty of power. Quick chain slack adjustment. A window to gauge chain oil. Battery indicator. This saw will completely change your old thinking about clean power. Wow!

Bought this a few weeks ago and have since cut down 6 overgrown lilac trees and 5 15'-ish pines on my new property. Worked great - cut through them all like butter. I bought this because of my good experiences with other Dewalt 40V items - the blower and trimmer - all work great and now I have 3 batteries to work with. I'm a huge fan of this product line. No gas/mixing/start issues. Just keep the batteries charged and go. If you have big trees to cut down, it may not be the right product for you, but for most homeowners I suspect this will work great. The only negative I can think of - it seems to use a lot of bar oil. Just need to keep an eye on the level if you're doing a lot of work. But it's easy to add; it's also easy to tighten the chain; also easy to pull off the needed pieces to clean it. It's a well engineered product.

One reason why I wanted a battery powered chain saw is that I have a hard time starting and keeping a pull model going. I get the pull model started, climb up the ladder and it quits. Grrr. I really did not want to buy this model because of the weight. That being said, I'm happy that my husband talked me into this model. It is very powerful and the battery life is phenomenal. It does require quite a bit of chain oil, so I keep that handy at all times. I have not cut down any trees with it yet, but have cut off and cut up over 12" diameter branches. I can go for an hour and still have two thirds of battery power left. Battery charges up in about a half an hour. I can't go much more than an hour without needing a break anyway. For me, so far, the chain stays on the bar and has a wonderful adjustment and safety feature. Highly recommended.

This is an awesome tool! I researched battery-powered chain saws for a few months- it made no sense to go cheap since I was replacing a gas-powered chainsaw (good riddance!). Right out of the box, it worked great. I added chain oil, had a spare 40V 4ah battery from the Dewalt blower I purchased a few months ago (also works great-as advertised!). While the 6ah battery charged I lowered a 10" (dia.) stump in less than 30 seconds. Next, I sawed up two 25 foot ( 2-5" dia.) branches in less than 30 minutes. No fighting with the pull start, or buying a $20/gal trufuel, etc. No more trying to deal with the idle and richness settings, carb overhauls, etc. etc. etc. I am sold on battery-powered technology. Never again will I use a traditional chain saw. (never means: never!)
