I rarely write reviews of products but this is one product that I feel deserves it. I was never able to figure out exactly what was going on with my scalp, but it was always itchy, irritated, red and scaly. Nothing I tried had helped it and for years I just suffered with having to constantly scratch my scalp. I ordered this shampoo around 6 months ago and am currently on my second bottle and it saved my scalp. I am 97% free from itchy and the scales are all gone. It’s the only thing that helped and I am so happy I took a chance and purchased. It started helping with a few shampoos and within a couple months had done most of the work and now I just use to maintain a clear scalp. I hope it works well for other people suffering too!

I used to use Nutragena t-gel shampoo (a tar shampoo as well), this product is WAY better. The natural oils in this shampoo leave hair feeling silky and not too stripped of moisture. I usually have frizzy hair. This pic is air dry right out of the shower. My hair is silky and shiny with no frizz at all. I usually blow dry and flat iron. No need to, this shampoo relaxes and smooths my hair. Got rid of my itchy scalp. Will definitely order again.

This stuff is absolutely incredible! I've struggled with seborrheic dermatitis throughout my adolescence and early adulthood, and it's been a huge challenge finding a daily shampoo that manages the "hot spots" as I call them. Some shampoos don't lather well at all, making it hard to reach the scalp; some shampoos smell horrible; most are far too expensive for daily use. This shampoo really helps clear up current "flare-ups" and does a GREAT job preventing them. The smell takes a bit of getting used to, but I SWEAR it rinses out completely. This shampoo also leaves my thick, wavy hair super soft and smooth. I can't sing this shampoo's praises enough! One bottle of Scalp 18 last me no less than 2 months of near-daily use. I massage nickle-size drops into different parts of my scalp until my head is covered, and usually let it sit for 2-5 minutes. That's definitely the key to seeing the spots clear up. If my scalp is in bad shape, I'll use my scalp brush to make sure the shampoo can reach my skin. If you deal with heavy dandruff, psoriasis and/or seborrheic dermatitis, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this shampoo!

I have struggled with psoriasis since I have been about 10 years old. When I turned about 15 it started to appear on my head and I was really self-conscious about it. I have gone through phases in my life where it has been only small patches and other phases where it has taken up to a third of my scalp. I am now 25 and prefer having my hair short and it has gotten so bad that I just have lived with the constant dandruff and tested about a dozen shampoos ranging from natural, organic, t-gel, acidic and all other types of shampoos. I used this shampoo without much hope and about a week later, I could already tell there was a massive change in my scalp. I don't even know if I have psoriasis on my scalp currently. It is the first time in a long time that I have been psoriasis free on my scalp. My buddy also has dermatitis on his scalp and I recommended this shampoo and within a week he was talking about how great it was also. I bought this shampoo a year ago for about 18 bucks and I thought to myself that this stuff better work at that price and it did. Also, one bottle has lasted me almost an entire year.

UPDATED REVIEW: After consistent review of this product for about 5 months I've found that regular, consistent use really does help to control the seborrheic dermatitis I seem to have developed later in life (age 62). I've been washing my hair about every four days with each wash, rather than the monthly use I started off with. It controls the dandruff and itchy scalp, leaving my hair feeling silky and smooth, with my scalp issues under control. The smell dissipates more quickly than I first thought, especially if I'm using any other product in my hair like conditioner or products for blow drying. It has become the only shampoo I use. I'll occasionally use another product but just for the ends. When showering I try to wash my hair first so I can leave the shampoo worked into my scalp for as long as possible which seems to improve the product's efficacy. When I don't use this shampoo my scalp quickly becomes very itchy with a large buildup of flaky dandruff. I'm pretty sold on this shampoo. A little goes a long way, with a bottle lasting several months, well worth it for the money. I've increased my rating from 4 to 5 stars due to how well it's controlling my scalp conditions. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This seems to work pretty well with use at least once a month for control of psoriasis on the scalp. Consistency in use is key. It doesn't smell good going on but the smell does dissipate quickly, by the next day it isn't noticeable at all. I'd rather use this then the Prednisone liquid my MD prescribed for the patch of psoriasis from where my bike helmet seems to rub on my skull in the back. Always better not to use Predisone if you don't absolutely need it. If I use this shampoo faithfully I very rarely use the Predisone (maybe once every month or so).

This cleared up my scalp psoriasis. I used as instructed and it did. It does smell a bit funky but I followed it up with ArtNaturals Argan Oil conditioner & then just a bit of the leave in ArtNaturals Argan Oil leave in conditioner. I had been using one prescription shampoo and treatment from my dermatologist for several months before trying this and for me at least, the prescription stuff seemed to just make it worse. I’m NOT saying to ignore Dr. I’m just saying that for me this cleared up in a couple of months what the prescriptions had been unable to do. No flare ups since thankfully. It worked for me. Of course there’s also a possibility the prescription stuff was too strong/harsh for my scalp. I can’t be sure. I just know that this will be my go-to should I get another flare up (though I hope I won’t need to) Tip: Easier to make sure you get out all of the shampoo if you have a handheld shower head with a massage setting... Also, the handheld round scalp “comb”/“brush” broke up the clumps of scalp psoriasis rather well, just don’t push down too hard...

I have dealt with the itch and flake of psoriasis for just over a year now. My Dad insisted that COAL TAR would help, but the idea of a petroleum product on my scalp simply turned me off. I tried everything found on store shelves, and a trip to my doctor resulted in a scrip for a $300 bottle of shampoo (which I never had filled). I went back to my Dad's advice and researched COAL TAR and found SCALP 18 by ARTNATURALS. After one week of use, the itch and flakes had lessened. After one month of daily use, the itch and flakes are gone! It has the feel and lather of a salon shampoo. It does have a slight smell of petroleum, however once you rinse your hair, the smell is gone. I now use it every third day for maintenence.

My dermatologist suggested I use a coal tar shampoo to manage some minor psoriasis problems on my scalp. This shampoo not only healed the wounds, but leaves my hair soft and thick. It isn't too stinky either, which was a big concern for me. I love it! It beats the heck out of T-Gel!

I've had psoriasis on the back of my neck/scalp on and off since my teen years and I wear black... all the time. So flakes are a very big deal. This year, I decided I was finally going to find the right shampoo (after giving up on SO many). I tried a few different shampoos over the course of a year and must say that I really like this one the best as it has cleared up all my flakes and leaves my hair looking great (I mean--really great!). I've tried a number of the most popular brands and if they worked on my scalp, they left my hair feeling just awful. I try to buy things that are all natural and I really like that coal tar is a very natural (albeit smelly) product. I do a lot of research before settling on a product and I felt confident that this one would hit all my marks. After the first washing with this shampoo, my hair was fluffy, soft, bouncy, and hadn't looked so good in a very long time... except--I still had white flakes all over my shoulders! I admit I was more than a bit upset. I was so excited to have found a great shampoo for my hair, but not my scalp. I thought maybe I hadn't left it on long enough (as per the label directions) so I tried again. I had better results the second time but not great. So, back to doing research... and then I stumbled upon a great article which explained that due to the amount of coal tar in the shampoo, results might not be immediate. So I decided to give it two weeks and I am so glad I did! After two full weeks of using the shampoo, I am flake free! I highly recommend this shampoo--but most importantly, follow the directions and give it a couple of weeks to work.

I'm amazed. I had pretty bad scalp psoriasis, I've tried so many different products. I ordered this brand, this size, on January 21st 2017 so over 6 months ago and I still haven't finished the bottle! I use it 3-4 times a week too. I'm never going back to store bought shampoo. My scalp is so much better now, I can actually wear black shirts and sit on other people's couches without worrying about dandruff. I logged in today to see how long ago I ordered this Bottle because it's still not gone and I was shocked that it was over 6 months ago. My guess is because you apply less shampoo than normal because it spreads and foams up and moisturizers so well. Better than my salons shampoo even. I'm obsessed! Way worth the $12. Here are my before and after pics, first pic taken in January & second pic taken just now in early August. It did not take this long to change so much, I just never took an after pic until today.
