Superior Reception and Great Value
This is much more than just a converter box, and is a great value. We have had the device for just a few days, so I can't speak to longer term reliability. Installation was fairly easy; the default settings were perfect for my application. The manual is just OK - the essential information is there, but some grammar/typo errors and low quality printing make it hard to read. If you have connected a TV to other devices like DVD, Stereo, Apple TV, you should not have any trouble. The box works very well to get local broadcast TV via antenna. I have checked out the record and pause features, and they seem to work reliably, although it is a little hard to learn how to use them, and you do need your own storage device. I had no idea that TV stations broadcast a program guide, so that feature was an unexpected bonus. We cut the cable a long time ago. We have watched over the air broadcast TV with our Panasonic Plasma TV since about 2007 in two different cities. We now live in Savannah, GA and at our location we had occasional bad reception on a favorite channel. Another smaller TV in a different place in the house had better reception, so it occurred to me that perhaps not all tuners are created equal. I searched for tuners and found this device. Since the cost was fairly low and the reviews were generally good, I decided to give the box a try. I connected it to the same antenna we have been using, linked it to the TV with an HDMI cable, and WOW! The box definitely gets better reception than the expensive TV. There have been no dropouts and the quality of the picture is better, with crisper HD images. We use a Logitech Harmony 650 Universal remote. Programming was straightforward. I found "iView 3200STB" in the Logitech device list and it works perfectly. Our device doesn't have the iView brand; but is apparently identical to it. Another reviewer mentioned that you have to point the included remove accurately right at the box, and I noticed that, too. The universal remote is better.

Great tuner with everything you need.
This is a great kit. I bought two of them only to find out one TV had a digital tuner. I like the functionality and that it comes with what you need. The antenna worked better than a larger more expensive one. My biggest complaint is that it takes a while to scan. It found about 20 channels. Multiple resolutions are supported at least with the hdmi. I ended up using one antenna seperately with a TV and putting some bunny ears on this in a more challenged location but it worked great either way. You can add a memory stick and make a DVR out of it but the interface is a bit like a VCR than what you may be used to now with cable and sat boxes.

Your best bang for the buck.
I would actually rate this 4.95 but that option is of course not available. The only down grade is based on the the included installation manual. The manual does a good job of pointing out the operation of the system but does miss a bit in the use of acronyms without explaining what the acronyms mean (LCN, or ONID for example). The software could use a small bit of improvement to make it a little more User Friendly. Everything worked as advertised and was easy to to install. Due to the various connection ports on the converter box, I was also able to configure the device to record on one channel and view another program on a different channel. The multi channel setup does require a TV with multiple inputs (coax connection and HDMI). I recorded the Democratic debate, while my wonderful wife watched Madam Secretary. I played the recording later and it was "Picture Perfect". This product worked perfect and I could not be happier. I did not not use the included antenna, as I was already using a very good OTA (Over The Air) antenna. If a buyer has limited channel reception, I would recommend upgrading the antenna. I receive over 35 channels from my second story apartment balcony with my antenna. The Converter box or a TV requires a good signal. The main purpose was to be able to record OTA broadcasts for later viewing and the Iview Digital Converter Box worked perfectly and save me a ton of money. Price out a DVR and then compare it to this Digital Converter. I would recommend this vendor and product to everybody wanting to cut the Satellite or Cable TV cord. The product shipped fast and worked great. Best value for the money.

Very Nice!!
WOW! I was very impressed with how well this worked. Used the HDMI cable, which was included, to connect to my TV and it worked great. Flawless playback and fairly intuitive menus. The unit is quite small and unobtrusive. Power light turns from red to green when it's on and remote works well, although the buttons are small and a bit difficult to read. The program guide is nice and displays info about only the channel you are watching. Scheduling a recording is as easy as entering start and stop time, channel and daily or just once. It would be nice to do a one button record from the on screen program guide but this is not possible, times must be entered manually. I liked the way you can adjust the transparency of the menus so you can see the video while your are playing with the menus. I'm using a flash drive right now for recording but have a 2 TB Hard Drive on order, either one will connect to the USB jack on the unit. For the price this unit cannot be beat!.

Pretty Good
Pretty good. I just returned a competitor product that developed multiple failures within 12 hours. So I was not very confident that any of those cheap TV recorders would be good or last long. I seems that 20% of reviews on most cheap OTA DVRs are 1 star. So, maybe quality control is an issue with some manufacturers. But most sellers offer quick replacement in case of defect. Well, this one so far works very nicely. The printed manual was useless. But just playing with the remote, trying all the buttons, it was easy to figure out what does what. For example: 1) EPG (Electronic Programming Guide) button leads to timer programming. One needs to set the timer 5 minutes early, since the internal clock synchronises over the air about 2 minutes late. No big deal, just add 5 minutes before and to be save, also after the wanted recording time. Does not know summertime, so need to set the GMT offset accordingly. Tried daily recording, and it did daily. 2) USB button leads to playback. Playback remembers the last position, so you can pause, exit, and on another day, come back, and it asks if you want to resume or go to beginning. It does not skip in 5/30 minutes intervals, but it offers 2/4/8/16/32 times fast forward/reverse, and skip to next/previous recording. 3) Pause/Play button during live TV enters delay mode, so you can pause live TV in case your phone/doorbell rings. 4) MTS files can be read by a computer for editing, in case you want to archive/crop/edit. HD needs about 6GB/hour. Records in one large file per show. 5) Tried USB2 32GB stick and USB2 160GB HD, both worked perfectly. 6) The unit gets hand-warm, the antenna connector a little too warm to touch. Worries me a little in terms of thermal stress on the semiconductors. So far so good after 2 days of testing. The convenience of being able to record TV and watch later with fast forward over commercials and boring content is a huge time-saver and definitely pays off very quickly if you value your time in terms of money. The option to archive health shows on PBS/WEDU is a really good option too, since sometimes it requires watching them more than once to get all important details.

Great for recording over the air programs!
I have used this to record over the air programs for over a year and it is a great piece of electronic equipment. There was a learning curve that was somewhat aggravating initially but once I got used to it, I found it to be easy to program and use. The reception quality is excellent as long as there is a good signal from the station. I have it connected to a long range antenna that is about 30 feet above the ground. The remote is touchy and has to be aimed precisely in order for it to work properly, but that was another learning curve. Once in a while, the time will revert and lose the daylight saving option but that is easy to fix in the menu. The most negative thing I can say about this box is that every time you scan for channels, all of your recording settings are erased and the only way to add a new channel is to scan again. During the past year, the local stations in my area added 4 new channels. I discovered this by scrolling through the channels on a television that didn't need a converter box. Each time I found a new channel, I had to scan for channels using that option in the menu and it erased my recording settings. Other than these types of issues, I have enjoyed the added convenience of being able to record programs to watch later or being able to pause programs and even rewind them if I needed to. I liked this so much that I actually bought another for my own use and bought another for a gift. It is a worthwhile item that can help anyone get rid of their cable bill.

Highly recommended alternative to cable.
I'm so pleased with this purchase! It has not only set me free from the local cable company, but has even given me the added luxury of recording to a USB stick with files that are readable by my computers, which means I can watch the recordings at the television using the digital converter box or pop out the USB stick, pop it into any computer and watch anywhere I like. Nice! As others have noted, the guide is less than useful because it was obviously written in another language and not translated very well, but if you do your best to make sense of the guide and combine that with some fiddling around with the remote control, you'll soon know how to do the things you need to do. As others have also noted, the guide doesn't show programs very far into the future (but certainly shows at least the day's programs and usually shows the next day's as well), but I don't mind this since that information is easily found in a variety of locations online for the times that I need to look further into the future than it offers. The most confusing thing for me to get straight in my head was that I need to keep in mind that I'm recording a channel during a specified time slot and not recording a show (which is the opposite of what the cable company had us doing). Once you know that, you just need to know which channel your shows are on and at which times and then just set up the recordings. A nice feature this unit gives you is that you can rename the recordings. I hadn't realized that it did that, but extras are always appreciated!

Works great if you don't have a digital TV
Got this for a refurbished Samsung 27" LED full HD monitor that I'd bought for $100 from another online vendor. Since the monitor has no TV tuner, I got this so I can watch local news, sports, and other programmings as I don't own a digital TV, or any TVs for that matter. Works great. I connect to the monitor via the HDMI ports at both ends. But I routed the audio from the converter's RCA stereo jacks to a 2.1 speaker system. Now I can watch local TV in high def with a stereo pseudo-surround sound for $30 plus a $10 indoor unidirectional paper-flat antenna. The remote is a nice feature. Also, my laptop is connected to the Samsung monitor via a Display Port port, and since the Samsung monitor has auto input signal detection, I don't have to keep unplugging and plugging in cables, but just let the monitor do its thing. Very convenient and I'm very happy that I got this box.

This new converter is a different animal but it uses the same OS as the Mediasonic HW180STB did (exact same menus and icons) so
The box works very well. I just replaced a Mediasonic HW180STB HomeWorx HDTV Digital Converter Box that got to where the picture would pixelate along with losing channels and the remote freezing with the box. I found out later that this was a common problem with that box. This new converter is a different animal but it uses the same OS as the Mediasonic HW180STB did (exact same menus and icons) so although I have rated this new box good I want to see if it holds up over the next few months.
