Upon receiving via mail, I was anxious to open ...
Upon receiving via mail, I was anxious to open and taste. The product came in a glass jar and tasted magnificent. I immediately opened it and it tasted lemony with a sour flavor. The flavor wasn't overpowering or too subtle. Also this was freshly made, you can tell by the moisture content. Btw this isn't Sumac salt, it's pure ground sumac if anyone reading this wants to know.

Just What I Was Looking For
Spice arrived on time, was packaged securely....happy with quality! I use it in savory cooking when I want a light, lemony flavor without juice. It doesn’t have additives like other lemon seasoning.

USimply Season Salt-Free Sumac is just what you need in so many recipes!
First of all, I was glad to find a small quantity of a product I just recently started using. I live in a rural area, closest major grocery store 18 miles away. No chance of finding sumac there! I love to cook and I'm always open to trying new recipes. I tend to try recipes from The Food Network, and recently Geoffrey Zakarian and Rachael Ray offered recipes that call for sumac. I chose USimply Season because it's salt-free. So, if you're interested in cooking foods from the Middle East, you're going to need sumac. I heartily recommend trying USimply Season Ground Sumac Seasoning Powder.

Fresh and bright flavor
Delicious! I found a recipe online for Fattoush (a Lebanese salad) that called for ground sumac. I love anything citrus-y so I decided to give it a try. This sumac has a very fresh, bright taste without being overpowering. I will keep making the lemon dressing with sumac from the recipe to use on other salads and experiment with using sumac straight from the bottle as a finishing spice, as one would with salt and pepper. Highly recommended!

Sumac - Great Flavor Enhancer
I eat a salad everyday and have added a sprinkle of sumac - it's amazing how such a small amount adds such a large oomph to the flavor. I've also sprinkled some on salmon and tilapia and again a small amount adds a nice 'lemony' flavor but not as tart.

Fresh and no salt
This USimply sumac is excellent. It definitely is one of the best tasting out of maybe 6 brands I've tried over the years. The grind is slightly coarse so you can see the natural pieces of the original red "drupes" (little fruits like berries with a tiny pit) as they call them. It smells fresh- not like chemicals or like nothing at all! No added salt n the "Original" version I bought is a bonus for me. Salt can be added separately as needed. I am not middle-Eastern but love international spices from many cultures. Sumac is one of my really great finds (after I overcame the initial trepidation that it might be poison sumac - NOT SO - it is a different species of plant. Culinary sumac has red drupes, poison sumac has white ones. Great articles on Wikipedia and elsewhere on the subject).Sumac is perfect where tang but not the acidity of lemon or vinegar is desired. It is not hot like cayenne, for those who do not know. Just a sprinkle brightens the flavor noticeably in soups or veges, or on fish or meat, or with oil on bruschetta, for example, while cooking or just added later as a condiment. It also imparts its own subtle taste beyond just the tangy element. I would and will order from this company again. Sorry for extremely delayed review but still using and enjoying the first bottle moths later.

My New Favorite Spice!
I have already gone through almost the whole container in just a few months. This is my new favorite spice! And i have a drawer of probably fifty spices. It is so different from any flavor i have had previously. It has very citrusy notes with some acerbic paprika tones as well. I just ordered the larger size, quick!! before i run out!! I thought about trying another cheaper brand here. But what if it isnt the perfection of THIS one! I can't risk that.

Ground Sumac
I mainly bought this to mix with my homemade middle eastern seasoning I created and then seasoned the Thanksgiving turkey with it. It really does have a particular flavor that's kind of fruity with a bit of a tart scent.
