After looking at a bunch of these containers, I opted for the stainless steel one with smooth sides. Have had it for a couple of weeks now, and love it. It gets used daily, mostly for coffee grounds, but it also gets banana peels, orange peels, apple cores, and eggshells regularly. There’s absolutely no odor, the lid comes off and on easily, and it’s great for carrying outside to the big compost pile we have for our garden. Very well made, very sturdy, and goes nicely with the other stainless steel / nickel fixtures in our kitchen.

This stainless steel compost bin is amazing! The lid has a washable foam filter that miraculously keeps the smell contained. I have a bad habit of buying “good intentions” (aka fresh produce) which often goes bad before anyone thinks of eating it, which is what started us on the composting kick anyway - we were tired of watching all the produce get wasted so we started a compost tumbler for our veggie gardens (will this become a vicious cycle? 🤷♀️). I was using a 3lb coffee can but found it would rust the can before I finished a new can, plus it stunk up the house within a day! I have produce in this bin for several days and can’t even tell! I bought a second for my mother because it works so well!

I received this 14 days ago and promptly put it to use. I wanted to see how long it would take me to completely fill it and how long it would take to get "stinky". At 14 days, I have now completely filled it (I'm only cooking for one, so not as many scraps), and the only time I smell anything from it is when I open it to put more items in. It's sitting on the same counter where I prep my food, so if there was a smell, I would definitely know by now. I'm completely satisfied, and I would highly recommend it to anyone I knew that was looking for a kitchen compost bin. I probably won't wait another 14 days before emptying it next time, but I'll take the lack of smell if I happen to wait longer than the 3-4 days most of the reviews recommend!

My kids wanted to start composting and shopped around a bit for a small kitchen pail for our scraps. This has been working as described perfectly. No smell through the charcoal filter unless you put your face right up to the vent holes. What a great idea to have in the kitchen and cut down on what goes to the landfills. We bought a separate outdoor composter too so using this pail to transport between the two is great. Fantastic purchase and would recommend to anyone looking to make the leap to home composting.

Our house is contemporary, with brushed nickel and stainless steel appliances and fixtures, so this compost bin with its smooth design fits right in with our décor. We had to replace our plastic compost bin; it was disgusting despite our cleaning efforts and the multiple filter changes. When you can smell your own home, you know something is “fishy”. But this isn’t just any stainless steel compost bin because I’ve been in homes that use them, and their homes have a distinct odor. I may not quite understand how the pores absorb the particle creating odor, but I do know that the charcoal filters do trap odors in the bin – 100%. And the stainless steel makes this bin easy to clean because it does not have fissures or pores for food to cling to. It’s a great size, it looks nice, it works perfectly, and I’m very happy with my purchase.

Well-made, attractive storage for food scraps. Perfectly sized so as to hold enough food scraps, used paper towels, etc. without usually needing daily emptying — naturally, if you were to discard the skins of two watermelons, etc. even this one-gallon container would quickly fill up. I find it pretty easy to keep clean, inside and out. Even during times when we empty it only once in a week, we have yet to notice any odor escaping. I imagine even with the charcoal filters in the lid it might not be able to contain really strong-smelling contents if left in there for along enough time, but inadequate emptying of the food scrap container is 'user behavior,' and as such is beyond the control of the manufacturer.

I love this compost bin! For years we'd been using a plastic bowl covered with an enamel plate. It took up a lot of counter space and since it was essentially sealed, the compost got pretty slimy at times. This bin allows air to circulate, keeps things a bit tidier inside meaning cleaning it out between batches is much easier and there is no smell or "fruit flies" (which sometimes find compost irresistible). I love the finish on this, matches my appliances and looks nice on the counter. It's a huge upgrade from our old bowl which has been demoted to a finished "compost scooper" out at the big bin. Ha! We've been composting for several years with that big bin outside and it truly energizes our potted plants and those in the ground too. You can see the flush of vitality after applying some fully composted stuff and watering it in. Even if you only have the basics in terms of potted plants and landscape, you can definitely help them very easily with compost and you'll be doing the landfills (and the sewage system if using an in-sink garbage disposal) a big break. It's natural and very effective for nourishing growing plants. Thanks again for a wonderful product that is a real upgrade for us.

Not only did it ship and in less than 2 days, this product actually works. I have a compost pile, but keeping scraps mentioned having a bag inside so you're not running out EVERY time you generated waste, or simply throwing them away. This year has proven to be a bad year for fruit flies (who love scraps like this). After receiving my cannister, I have not seen 1. I use the compostable bags in mine, and if you put anything that has a water content to it (cucumber etc) just double bag it to prevent leakage into the can and yourself when you empty it.

I love this item. I use it every day and it completely eliminates any trace of odor in my kitchen. It comes with a supply of filters. In the looks department it is first class and you can order more filters as you need them.

This is my first compost bin. The metal components are easy to clean. I try to avoid getting the inner lid wet due to the charcoal filter inside. I have used this for a few months now without having to change the filter. I remove the waste once a week and don’t worry about any smells unless the top is open. I use Glad small trash bags in these and just throw the plastic part in the trash. I’ve considered the biodegradable bags but they are not appropriate for how long I keep my compostables in the bin. One last complaint: the handle squeals when I use it to carry the bin.
