As description says, this will allow you to check in on August door lock when you are outside of bluetooth range. I think this is essential item to have if you are installing August door lock. With this, you can check in the status of the door lock and lock/unlock the door anywhere you have wifi or cellular data coverage. I guess I have been lucky enough to not have any issues with this. This is located within 3 feet of August door lock and after several months of use, we haven't had any issues.

I bought the Smart Lock because I came home to find that my teenager had left for school in the morning without locking the front door! It has worked wonderfully! I connected everyone in the household and set up everyone’s phones to auto-lock (which locks the door whenever someone travels more than 200 meters away). My kids love locking the door with their phones, and I am no longer worried that they might forget. It sends me a notification whenever the door lock is activated. So now, if my teen, who is the last to leave every morning, forgets, Auto-lock will lock it, plus I can activate it remotely from work. It also lets me know when they unlock it and arrive back home from school. I also love how, if my hands are full of groceries etc, the lock senses my phone as I approach the door, and it unlocks it for me by the time I turn the doorknob. Someone posted that they had a guest who got locked in...TOTALLY UNTRUE! You can still manually turn the lock to unlock it from the inside, and you can still unlock it from the outside with your key! For those who say it doesn’t seem to respond: Mine may be responding perfectly because I bought and plugged in the WIFI BRIDGE two feet from the lock.

We got this because my husband cannot be trusted with keys :) and I am too impatient to fish around for the key and futz with the lock every single time I come and go. So we were pretty sloppy about locking up when we left. (which always made me a tad uncomfortable in the back of my mind) So that is why we got this. We've been using it for about a month now. Installation was pretty easy, and syncing with iphone was a breeze. We did run into one issue/question (the documentation referred to something on the app which had since been moved/renamed) but you just call up support and they picked right up -- even on a sunday! Overall, I really like it! I would say about 90% of the time it behaves exactly as hoped/expected-- it locks the door behind you when you leave, opens the door as you return. Locking when you leave is pretty much 100% reliable. This has always worked. The part that is a little less reliable is automatically unlocking when you return. My husband always has his bluetooth headphones in so I think for him this messes up communication between his phone and the lock. For me, I have a couple of times gotten a message saying something about a communication error with the lock. But if this happens, it still always unlocks using the app (in other words, the worst case scenario is that instead of unlocking all by itself, you have to pull out your phone). Not a big deal. I would say that if you have a sticky lock, then you should probably try and resolve that before installing so you don't wear out the batteries prematurely. For us, our lock always rubbed against the plate when locking/unlocking so it was really hard to turn. So we fixed that before installing and I think that was the right move. Hardware-wise, it has been pretty much flawless as a result. I would say if you're thinking about it, then do it! It is a really neat concept, well executed and also well supported!

VERY HAPPY WITH THE LOVK AND THE COMPANY. We bought an August lock over a year ago and it didn't work well. It didn't have enough power to close a brand new bolt and the plastic adapter ended up breaking because the mechanism got out of sync. We were sooo frustrated and never expected this lock to work right. But THINGS WORKED OUT GREAT! We called August and explained the trouble we were having and they approved a warranty exchange. But, we got busy and a year went by so we called them back and our unit was out of warranty. But, because we had spoken to them during the warranty period and they had notes of our original issue they honored what they said and sent us a new lock as a warranty replacement. THIS LOCK IS SOOOO MUCH BETTER! It is vastly superior to the original lock. We use it all the time. We went on vacation and got notifications when people came by to walk and feed our dog. It's definitely made the trip more enjoyable with peace of mind. GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE AUGUST!!!

Fantastic! Easy to set up--took all of 3 minutes. I just love the August lock and this connect makes it even greater. I have the August Lock 2. It is so wonderful to be able to unlock and lock remotely. I live in a two-story house and mostly stay upstairs. Now, when family and friends come over, I don't have to go downstairs to let them in. I can just pull out my phone, use my app, and unlock the door from upstairs! You need the connect to be able to operate the August lock remotely. I had no problem whatsoever installing it. I definitely recommend the August Lock and the August Connect.

After reading the reviewa for this system, my biggest concern was battery life of the lock portion. I am almost 3 months in and still have not replaced them. The WiFi bridge is not a critical component, but I bought it to see the lock status from anywhere. This system was well thought out and works flawlessly for me. I like being able to send out electronic keys and my actual keys still work. Installation and setup were simple and took about half an hour including the lock. The only negative thing I can say is that when you have it set to automatically unlock, it will do it even when I go in through another door. Does not work with Windows Phone.

I know some people have left good and bad references but I love this thing. I wish they had this when my kids were little. Having it unlock the door as I walk up to it is key. No turned on the auto lock as well not sure if that's as good as I have to be careful to always bring my keys or phone so I don't get locked out but when I forget to lock the house when I leave for work makes me wonder how often I used to leave my house unlocked by accident. I also have a roav vnfornalexa in my car so can lock it by voice. From my car or unlock it with voice or phone so the kids can run back in. Like when we forget stuff. If you have a busy life this is key. The bridge I think should be part of the lock it use my wink hub which it doesn't but an August lock is just the bomb. I even made it part of my " goodnight ". If then routine. So when I'm in bed I just tell Alexa goodnight and she shuts off the lights and locks the door. I even could give a friend a guest invite so she could let herself in

We bought these bridges to go with the August Smart Lock. The bridge allows Alexa to operate the lock. Note: Alexa will not unlock the door on command but she will lock it. Makes sense - you wouldn't want a thief tell her to unlock the door and have her do it... The bridge plugs into an outlet and has to be within 15 feet or so of the lock, the closer the better. This is the only inconvenience of the bridge. Depending on where you install the lock, you might be limited in options on where to plug the bridge in. The bridge was easy to install. The August software, on the smart phone, walks you through it. The bridge also has a reset button if installation doesn't work out well the first time. The bridge was a necessity and we would have preferred not have to use it, but the door locks would not otherwise work with Alexa. So, this is a good bridge. It isn't very big and is easy to use.

I bought the August Gen 3 Smart lock with the WiFi bridge, I have to say I love it. Some recommendations for smooth install and dependable use. Use Loctite and don’t over tighten mounting screws to deadbolt assembly; make sure tailpiece of deadbolt assembly is perfectly aligned with August lock; apply generous amount of heavy machine grease to moving components; make sure bolt is aligned to bolt face plate, weather striping can offset alignment (Dremmel tool would be handy to make perfect fit). I did all this with mine, and it works perfectly. I love the home/away function on the app; I just walk up to my door and it automatically unlocks for me; very useful when my hands are full. Also, being able to check to see if the door is locked when I’m away from home. Another perk is being able to check the history of when my door has been opened/closed, locked/unlocked (great for apartment maintenance, or forgetful girlfriend who occasionally leaves door unlocked). Definitely grants peace of mind! If your are not the handy type, I would recommend hiring someone to do the install for smooth operation.
