After years of buying small tubes, we finally bought this big ol' tub of A&D ointment and now it's a once-yearly purchase instead of once-monthly. We have four children six and under and use this ointment on a whole variety of issues, from diaper rash to rug burn to scrapes and blisters. The ointment is definitely very thick and sticky and has a distinctive smell that's sort of like vaseline mixed with lemon and a hint of cod liver oil. We don't find it offensive, but if you're sensitive to smells it would be worthwhile to get a small tube first and test it out. For keeping private areas free of chafing and rash, I haven't found a product to beat it.

Love A&D! I was introduced to this product in the hospital, after having my first child, over 10 years agoA&D can be used in place of petroleum jelly, on cuts and bruises, for chapped lips and dry skin. It is great for babies bottoms and private parts. I prefer this to Desitin or other zinc based lotions. I used on all four of my children, my husband, myself and elderly parents. We always have several tubs in the house. And the price can’t be beat! It is double at the drugstore or almoatanywhere else.

This is my healing balm of choice and I love this large version (used to get it in 1 oz tubes) It soothes and heals wonderfully. I love the smell of it as well. I have used it for burns, rashes, chafing, rough skin and chapped lips with great success. I would highly recommend this product.

Aside from the fact that its highly doctor recommended, Amazon might be the best place to get this product because of the size and price. I use this probably every diaper change and its probably the only thing I will use for a diaper rash. If my son has a Diaper rash after applying its highly effective and will mainly clear up by his next diaper change which is probably in an hour or 2.

This stuff is awesome. It was recommended to me originally for use in prevention of bedsores for a family member who was bedridden. It worked well, and I was so impressed that I now use it under a pair of white cotton gloves at night (found a great deal on gloves here on Amazon) to soften and heal my dry and sometimes cracked skin on my hands. It usually works wonders overnight.

I swear by this stuff. I used it on my first daughter, who had sensitive skin, and I was sold on it. I have a baby in the nicu and when she got a rash, they called up a balm from the pharmacy that was EXACTLY like this stuff. I love this stuff so much better than desitin of any of the other products. It cleans off so much easier, and I've even used it on irritated, itchy skin for myself and it works INSTANTLY. There's a reason I decided to be crazy and but this in a POUND jar. It's worth it.

Trusty old A & D ointment always works for keeping my baby's hind quarters protected against the massive amounts of waste she produces. As expected, it creates a protective barrier between her baby butt cheeks and her frequent pees and deuces. This size is much more economical, and lasts longer than the smaller size tubes. More importantly, with the giant A & D ointment tub, you get to use every last precious golden drop of the butt protection without the force of God to roll the tube. Sidenote: Don't be afraid that there's no seal on the tub. It's all good and was most likely not opened or fussed with (usually the top of the ointment is smooth and level)....every time I have ordered it from many different stores this has been the case. The magic butt cream is ready to be used the second you open the lid. Heads up: Be careful opening the lid if it has been hot outside.....Magic butt ointment melts like crazy, then drips all down your hands and all over your table when you open the lid....

I've been going to a flotation spa where you float/soak in epsom salt. The salt was wreaking havoc with tender membranes and little cuts and the petroleum jelly the spa was providing was simply not effective in creating a barrier, so I purchased this to take my own. Works perfectly - I don't feel any sting whatsoever from the salt in tender areas.

I love that this product contains lanolin. I've noticed that ingredient really soothes my chapped sticks so when I saw my mom bought this for my nephew and tried some of hers I quickly fell in love. It does feel like petroleum jelly, hence it's the higher ingredient in the list. My skin got so dry this winter I got painful cracks in my hands that burned badly. This was they only thing that help my flaky dry hands. My hands are now so smooth and I love to apply this all over after showering at night.

We've used a number of products for diaper rash and redness, but this one has always worked the best for our little ones. Any redness from prolonged wet/dirty diaper wear usually clears up within a day when we use this after every change. Our youngest (redhead with porcelain skin) has more sensitive skin than her older (easily-tanned) sibling and this works great for her. Don't get me wrong, the other products were mostly fine too, but I dislike those that are white/paste-like because they tend to leave more of a visible mess; especially with squirmy little ones.
