Why didnt i get this sooner?!
LOVE it! brought new life to my 18v tools. The adapter is a little hard to get out of the tool but with use has gotten easier. The 2Ah batteries work great. Will be getting more 20v batteries soon. I have a FlexVolt tool and the FlexVolt batteries will NOT fit in the adapter. Additionally, the adapter will NOT fit in the 18v fluorescent work light. The adapter fits fine in the 18v circular saw but even the small 2Ah batteries stick out farther than the 18v did so you have to move the foot plate of the saw a little bit to get the battery to fit properly, which decreases the depth of your cut.

This is a great concept. It saves money and works very well.
This is a great concept. The Li-Ion batteries for the 18v system are quite expensive compared to those for the 20v system. This works just very well. I keep the battery disconnected during storage since I saw some reports of slow discharge in storage when attached to the adapter and it stays charged just fine. I use it on my small 1/4 in. impact drivers. The battery with the adapter is lighter than some of the NiCad batteries I have and seems to last longer. The kit with 2 batteries, the charger, and adapter is a good deal. I also bought a second adapter for convenience. I am quite satisfied with this purchase.

Dewalt sucks for not coming out with this kit years ago
Dewalt sucks for not coming out with this kit years ago. PERIOD. But, now that it's out...Thank God as I can use my 18V tools again without dealing with those awful/overpriced/underperforming no matter how long you charge them awful batteries. Works with all my 18V tools. Drills, Reciprocating saw, grinder, circular saw, light, etc.

20V upgrades 18V tools - a good move for me
I'm very happy with that I chose to buy 20 batteries as my 18V wore out (normal). The extra power is wonderful. I've been using the 20V in my tools for 18 months now, and decided to invest in converting them all for convenience. 20V batteries are much easier to insert and remove than 18V batteries... and this applies to the 18V converters even more so. I think the 18V converters (this product) are made to stick extra hard, so they never pop-out when you really want to pop-out the 20V battery. That's the right trade-off... but also encouraged me to buy adapter to finish out all my tools.

Great kit but not recommended for older full sized 18V Dewalt Drill Drivers.
Review of DEWALT DCA2203C 20-Volt MAX Battery Adapter Kit for 18-Volt Tools. Have older DC759KA 18v Compact Drill Driver, still like brand new. Came with hard case for transporting/storing drill driver, charger & spare battery pack. Still today a very nice 1/2 drill driver. Was time to purchase replacement cells of the original 18V NiCads. Thought I would upgrade to this new Li-Ion package. Would work well for those who do not store or transport drill driver in hard case. 3 issues that I ran into with this conversion kit. 1. Does not cover entire bottom of old style larger NiCad packs, did not like the large open areas on bottom. 2. With conversion kit in place, although lighter, not a good balance for my Dewalt drill driver. Being smaller in design, makes drill top heavy when placing on countertop, easily tips over. Although heavier, the original NiCad design provides perfect balance when setting drill driver down with chuck facing up. Never has tipped over and is perfectly balanced. 3. All Dewalt 20v cells are actually 18v cells, so after looking at specs, nothing gained between NiCads vs the 20v cells included in this package. It is a great product if you intend to take advantage of Li-Ion cells vs NiCads. In my case, I prefer the original balance of the drill, the ability to stand driver up without a balance problem. Fortunately Dewalt still makes the original NiCads so I will return this kit and purchase the old style NiCads. Yes they are more to keep an eye on when compared to the newer Li-Ions. Trade off is the NiCads will start to delete gradually when using the drill. Thing I do not like about Li-Ion is it gives no warning when depleting unless you purchase cells with the LED indicators. Honestly, did not like the feel of this conversion kit on my DC759KA which is a 1/2" chuck, with 2 speeds of power. With good NiCads, the torque is the same as the Li-Ion cells. This kit would work well in the smaller compact 18v drill drivers. My DC759KA was made in 2005 and although called compact, is more like a full size with considerable more torque than todays smaller motor and sized Dewalts. Also purchased the 20V compact kit which is for smaller projects where a smaller lower capability unit is desired. I will still use the old full size compact for larger jobs.

Great solution to bridge the old with the new
This is great. I have a large collection of the old 18v NiCad XRP based tools. Recently I wanted to upgrade to a new, "pro level" drill. I purchased a "bare" DCD 791B Brushless drill (I love it BTW) recently. With this kit I can use these new 20v (really 18v) Lithium Ion batteries with my new drill AND all my old tools. It works great. One other note, I think mentioned previously in another review, it has been reported there there may be a slow drain if the L-ion battery is left in the adapter. i cannot confirm this as I just don't leave it in the adapter. If you have the old XRP 18v NiCad tools, get this, you won't be sorry. it is a great bridge from old to new tech.

happy great value extend older tool life
I have a ton of 18v dewalt tools, and just like when you buy a computer and plug it in its out dated.used new 20v battery tools and was impressed by how light they were (both brushless and with brushes). I always try to stick to one brand , who needs 6 different chargers , because nothing is interchangeable. got this used in my 18v tools great, ran longer weighs less works fine now when my drill toasted after 10 years I bought a 20 volt drill and as my old dewalt 18v batteries head off in the sunset of life they will be replaced by 20 volt I think its a great value, had no fitment problem in circ saw, recip saw, drill . haven't tried in any of my lights. hats off to dewalt on this maybe bill gates and Microsoft should take a lesson here, remember evolution not revolution

nice adapter
I have used this type adapter before and they work great. Not sure what they changed on them as I am no longer able to use my other 20amp batteries into them without noting char marks on the battery. Which is a good thing because I never noted that these adapter only work with certain batteries (still works yet don't want to ruin my batteries because they are not properly allotted for such). This kit has lighter smaller 20amp batteries than my other 20amp batteries yet works just a well. Very please with these because when running my saw or impact they cut through the job with no issues and can maintain such for a long time. When using my 18volts on my tools I would need to change out batteries often when cutting things and my impact would work about a 1/4 of the day before changing it out. With this adapter I can work almost the whole day with the impact and get about 60% more cuts than I use to with my saw.

Works Great!
Thank you Dewalt for making this adapter. This is a great adapter that allows you to use the newer 20V battery in your 18V tool. I purchased this to use on my DC725 Hammer Drill/Driver. All you do is plug this adapter into your 18V tool and insert a 20V battery into the adapter. It’s as easy as that. I was a little hesitant to purchase this at first because I read in some reviews where people had to make modifications to get it to work. One reviewer said he had to grind off some tabs (even showed a picture of the modification) to get it to engage into the tool. I didn't find this necessary for my particular application. Another reviewer said he had to grind off some of the material on the release tabs that holds the adapter into the tool (in the case of an 18V battery, these tabs hold that battery in the tool). Again, I didn't find this necessary. I do have to admit that the first time I tried to remove the adapter it didn't appear to want to release. I moved my fingers closer to the edge where the adapter meets the tool and pushed a little harder and it released. I inserted and removed the adapter five more times and now I can remove it with ease -- maybe it needed to work out some burrs leftover from the molding process. Since the Li-Ion battery/adapter combo is lighter than the Ni-Cd battery that came with my drill, the balance of the tool is a little off -- the tool is a little more top heavy, but not a lot and not enough to be annoying. The produce description says that this adapter is not compatible with all 18V tools, but it doesn't list which ones it's not compatible with. Here's what's currently listed in my instruction manual: all 18V radios, 18V nailers, DC020 or DC022 worklights, and the DCS370 Bandsaw. For the DC500 Vacuum, the DW074 and DW079 Rotary Lasers, the adapter is functional but the tool's battery door will not fully close. It also says to not use the premium Dewalt batteries in the DC970 or DC759 drills. If I had anything negative to say about this adapter, it's that I'm still trying to figure out why Dewalt angled the bottom of it. When I sit the tool down, the chuck end of the drill points up in the air about 10 degrees. Then there's the color difference. The yellow used in the battery matches the tool. The Yellow in the adapter is slightly more orange in color, so it doesn't match the tool or battery. But neither of them are deal breakers. I bought this as a kit, so I also received two batteries and a charger. The charger will charge a completely dead battery in about 90 minutes. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase.

Half the Weight!
As described. the fit is not elegant (SEE PHOTO) on my DW988 hammer drill but it works. The weight at 547 grams, battery with adapter, is nearly 50% less than the old NiCad battery (DC9096, weighs 956 grams). At $113 for the battery set, this is a good compromise to buying a new complete drill. I do recommend replacing the brushes in your drill to see maximum benefits.
