It's X10 - It works. It's cheap.
X10 has a general bad name - - > not as cool and marketed like the new WiFi IOT switches and stuff. BUT. . .. nobody is going to hack this stuff from another continent, and it won't compromise your network. I have been using X10 products for 20 years in multiple houses as general light timers. It works. You set the time to turn on, you set the time to turn off. Two on times and two off times for each of four "sets" of gizmos. You can have any number of gizmos on one "set". You don't have web access. . .timers don't automatically change times for sunset/sunrise and don't adjust for daylight savings but it WORKS. Cost is reasonable. Timer is $50; each "gizmo" you control is $10-$20. I have gizmos as plug in modules for xmas lights. . .also have light switch plates for ceiling lights/outside lights. Works fine. I use one of these timers in each of three homes to control 4 "sets" of lights. 1 set is all the xmas lights. 1 set is all the little candles in the windows. Front door lights on a third set. These timers seem to last several years and go bad. In 20 years, I have bought four of these (This model or the preceding MT10). Three running 5-15 years. One MT-14 went bad awhile back and was replaced . . . . Another MT-14 has the LED display going transparent. . . doesn't show the time well; but the timing functions are working fine. This unit was purchased to replace an older MT-10 that I thought the buttons going non-responsive after 10+ years of service - - but I managed to "reset" it. . . . I will hold it in reserve on the shelf for awhile until the MT-10 completely dies.

Improved over earlier version
This model is an improvement over the earlier version. The screen is very easy to see and shows the current status of each module. Some will find the green colour unappealing, but unless you keep it in a high visibility area this doesn't matter. The controls are easy to use once you get the general idea of how they work. The thin manual that comes with the device is larger than the previous one and doesn't require a magnifying glass to read. So does it actually work as an off/on timer? Well, yes, allowing for the quirky and unreliable nature of the old X10 protocol. This one works as well as the previous three I've owned (two were the old BSR devices.) That is to say, most of the time the lights act as programmed. Sometimes they don't. The wiring in my house is old and complex. There are two separate meters. It's not an ideal environment for X10. If you have a more straightforward wiring situation you'll probably get better results.

Works as advertised, solid and reliable.
We had our previous model for about 15 years, it worked well but started getting schizophrenic. Time to replace it. We also have an MT13A, and it is relegated to secondary use (Christmas lights). This new MT14A is very reliable anywhere in the house - the stronger signal seems to be a valid improvement. The screen is a bit bright at night - a dimmer function would be very welcome, as is common on so many lock radios. Programming these X-10 controllers is a little tedious, but once one gets the idea it's no big deal. Read the instructions, and re-check that your settings were saved, and they work. I know others reported some flaky controllers out of the box, but I have now bought 3 and they have all worked.

Really Love this Controller
This is my third controller over the last 21 years. Its super easy to set up and use. It plugs into your wall socket and will control up to 8 different items be it yard lights or interior lights. The 8 time zones can be set to go on and off individually which is super helpful. They can also all be turned off or on with the press of one main button. It also has a battery back up to keep you from having to reset the programs.

BETTER THAN PREVIOUS MODEL!
I have used X-10 timers, appliance and lamp modules, and switches foe thirty years Although not now high-tec, the units have served me well! This new timer has more features and a different unit-to-outlet cable configuration and AA rather than a 9-volt battery. I believe the control signals the unit puts out are a bit stronger as well. Still a more economical system that the newer ones.

Works great.
Works great. I have a number of X-10 receivers and use 2 of the controllers because (since the signal is carried over the house wiring as opposed to be airborne) it does not cross between legs of house wiring. These are much easier to program than the Z-wave devices and you can see what you have programmed. I also use Z-wave for a few things as well.

A Very Solid Performer
This is a great little controller. I’ve used X10 products for about thirty years, including the previous version of this master controller, as part of our home security system. The MT14A is a definite improvement- user friendly, easy to program and very solid communication with the modules.

Lights on. Lights off.
I've been using these for decades to turn interior and exterior LIGHTS on and off each day/night (earlier versions, actually) and they work just as they should. Using APPLIANCE MODULES they can also be used to turn appliances on and off, but I've never had a need for that. They're simple to use. They work. 'Nuff said.

Great product, I purchased it to replace an older model form more that 12 years ago. This new unit is very nice, a bit smaller and very easy to use and set up. I am using it on conjunction with the new replacement X10 MC10A Plug-In Mini-Controller. Can definitely recommend it.

Two things you should know about this new timer version
I received this timer in January2017. I am pleased with the many ON/OFF times that can be set for each module. (I have been using older units from the BSR and X-10 Powerhouse days when the manual control box allowed you to control 16 separate modules individually.) Two things you should be aware of are: 1) This unit is NOT UL (Underwriters Laboratories) approved as was the case with older timers and modules from the BSR and X-10 Powerhouse days. The current manufacturer may not have submitted it for testing and approval OR it may have failed to win UL approval. 2) A previous reviewer commented about old time settings re-appearing. This is true BUT they are simply ghosts and do NOT actually turn ON/OFF the modules. If you delete the "ghost" setting a second time it will not re-appear again.
