I didn't know I needed a new soldering iron until I spent all afternoon trying to solder some wires with my old one. This one came in a hurry and I put it right to use . It was a quality operation, quick work making a perfect connection. I was a happy craftsman. As of now I heartily recommend this tool A plus was the great price.

One of the biggest complaints I saw was that the tips would break. I tested all mine out, and they all seem plenty sturdy. Being as they are modular, even if you got one that was a factory defect, the company would PROBABLY be willing to just ship you a replacement for the part that breaks, that way you can keep using it while you wait. Other than that, it cretainly isn't professional grade, but it works great for stuff around the house (I use it to work on old video game carts).

We purchased this with trepidation, as some reviews suggested it was sub standard. We have now used it once, and all worked as is should. Temperature was a little sensitive, but worked out fine. You have to choose the tip you want on the smaller side to avoid accidentally touching a neighboring solder point and creating a "bridge" of solder. Also of note, its not a high end product, but it is workable for small jobs. We re soldered a new volume dial/knob to a Fender Blues Junior amp. Works great.

I changed all the key switches on my mechanical keyboard with this kit. 2 for the switch and 4 for the RBG LED so 624 joints to desolders and 624 to re-solder. Everything has held up well. I ran out of the included solder after 100 switches but thats because I used the solder to aid with some de-soldering. All in all, this is a great set! Sidenote, you'll have to tape the solder sucker because it likes to come loose but thats expected at this price point.

Great iron at a good price. Gets the job done and is much better then the cheap 30watt irons you can grab at a radioshack. The iron gets to temperature very fast, comes with 6 tips useful tips. The iron uses ceramic induction to heat the tip so swapping tips out must be done with care. Unplug, unscrew with wrench, pull nut out, pull heatshield out, pull tip out super carefully. Then you just replace tip and put it all back together then plug it back in. Gets back to temperature super quick! The iron has enough heat to melt leadfree solder so you can remove connectors off of circuit boards with the pump. The Desoldering pump has the heat resistant plastic tip. I have yet to melt the plastic on it compared to the otherones i had. People keep saying the stand it comes with is all scratched up? You are supposed to remove that blue layer of plastic! Mine came with 60/40 2% flux solder. The tweezers needed to be bent back into alignment, not a big deal. Overall if you need a cheap iron that actually works this is what you should buy. But it is cheap, don't expect perfection. I was able to remove a damaged embedded VGA cable from a computer monitor and convert the connector on the signalboard to VGA/VGA. I also fixed a snapped wire on a PCI-E extender. Great iron!

My old iron gave me trouble all the time. I followed every tutorial but had crappy results. I finally gave up and bought a kit in a last attempt to at least be functional in fixing small circuits. I wish i had thrown away my old iron years ago. sometimes I guess you can blame the tool. This kit is a nice place to start or in my case, restart.

I purchased this kit because I needed a variable heat soldering iron and a solder-sucker. I was actually planning to buy a soldering station and was looking for a solder-sucker when I came across this iron kit. My old 15 W iron wasnt cutting it for the application, and I was ready to upgrade. Keeping in mind that you usually get what you pay for, I am a college student and I like to save money where I can. This iron got great reviews and its easy to see why. The handle has a comfortable grip where the heating element comes out, and does not get hot. The iron heats up VERY quickly, and cools quickly as well. Im not sure how accurate the temperature control is, but the heat does change depending on knob position. Other reviewers and the seller warn of black smoke coming out of the top the first time you use it, but I did not experience this. I first used it outdoors just in case, and slowly heated it to its max setting, 450 degrees C. The tip was red hot, and there was no smoke. There is a red LED above the temp knob that lets you know it is plugged in and on, but nothing that lets you know when it reaches the intended temperature. I use it at 300 for PCB soldering, and it works like a charm. Not only does it heat quickly, but it stays hot. No more waiting for half a minute or more between soldering joints for this guy. The set up of the iron is different than any I have seen before, and the tips are not the standard iron tips. It comes with an assortment of 6 tips, but I dont know where one would get replacements. It comes with 60/40 rosin 1mm solder, which is what I usually use. The case is nice, it has a clip on the bottom for easy hanging. The solder-sucker is standard. I have used it a time or two, it works just fine. The included tweezers are really nice. I use them for placing 0805 components. All in all, I highly recommend this iron. This is a great kit for the price, I would make sure you have flux because that is the only thing this kit doesnt have. You usually get what you pay for, but in this case it is a high-quality, versatile iron that can easily replace a full on station.

I read a lot of reviews on the soldering iron before I bought it. Most of them said the retaining nut that holds the tips breaks. I recommend plugging the iron in and letting it heat up to the hottest temperature for several minutes then turn it off let it cool and the nut will come right off. This is a decent inexpensive soldering iron and works very well for quick jobs

I'm a novice when it comes to soldering and this thing is really straight forward. Super easy to figure out how to use it. Comes with a few different tips. Just make sure you tin the tip when using it for the first time. I just wrapped solder around the tip and then plugged it in. Comes with everything you need including some solder. I wish it would have came with some flux but it's still a really good value. Has temp control. The only thing I don't like is that the temps are in degree C. But either way it still works and gets the job done.

This, for the price, is a very impressive soldering iron. I was not expecting much, but I ordered it for my brother initially, who does not solder very often. After I used his, I ordered a second for myself. I haven't had it long enough to speak of longevity, but my initial reaction is buy this one instead of getting a cheapie from the hardware store, especially for smaller electronics work.
