This is the good one.
This is my 3rd spring compressor and the only one that I actually like. This is so much easier to use than the other ones where you have to go back and forth turning them in unison. For the money this is the best I've found. I also bought a stand up one for $150.00, it never worked even one time. Buy this one you won't be sorry like I was on two other models.

Works great and very heavy duty
Works great and very heavy duty. Much better than using those individual widow maker ones you can rent from auto places. Maybe not for those who are only doing a job once, but definitely worth it to the DIY'er who may use it several times.

Awesome value tool for sport suspensions!
I was extremely hesitant on purchasing this spring compressor, as similar versions from BMW enthusiast websites cost around two to three times as much. However, they all look very similar, so I purchased this, thinking that they're probably all made by the same factories in China. I was able to use this compressor and the medium (black) spring plates to disassemble the sport shocks on my BMW E92 335i. I previously used the common 'hook' type compressors but wasn't able to compress the spring far enough. With this one, it took a little bit of practice in order to figure out how best to rotate the strut assembly so that it is secured in place. Once I disassembled and reassembled the first strut, my confidence level was high and I zipped through the second one. My only complaint with the tool, which IMO isn't worth deducting a star for, is that the supplied bolts that are used to secure the spring plates to the shaft are extremely soft. They bent during the first use, so I had a little bit of trouble taking them out to try different plates. However, since they are used only to locate the plates, I'm not terribly concerned. I can always go to the local hardware store and buy different bolts. The fit and finish is also just ok. As the compressor is used, the lower plate leaves marks on the central tube as it slides up and down. Still, for what this cost I'm not complaining. Overall, I'm very happy with this tool. I'll be using it for all of my cars now instead of the two 'hook' type spring compressors I was using before.

This is the ONLY spring compressor to buy. No ...
This is the ONLY spring compressor to buy. No more 2 hook widow makers for me. Slam the cups onto your spring, attach your impact gun to the ram, and your spring is compressed in one continuous 20 second operation, with no concerns about it popping free and taking you out.

The way to go if you are replacing struts.
This design is much safer than the two hooks on a threaded rod type. It gave me confidence that I didn't really have to worry about getting maimed or killed by an escaping spring. You still should keep your head out of the way when jockeying the spring into position in the new strut, just to be safe, but I doubt there is a way this would break or the spring would pop out. I lubricated the threads before using this tool, which probably made it work a little smoother. Also, I had to clean up the threads on the mounting holes with a tap to make the mounting screws go in easily.

great coil spring compressor
it is very heavy, solid, sturdy, strong. but very heavy because it needs the strength to press and hold the coil springs. very easy to use.

I think this is the better tool for the job as you only have to ...
I have no experience with the more readily available tool to compress coil springs on a MacPherson Strut suspension, however, I think this is the better tool for the job as you only have to deal with one hex head to compress the spring rather than two. Set up is self explanatory and has a manual that I found easy to follow.

5 stats all day, fast and safe
Best spring compressor tool I have ever used. I had use many different styles over the years as a automotive technician , even the ones mounted on the wall. This one by far is the best and safest.
