Bought this based on reviews of other owners. Seems to work fine, except for the "experimental" web browser. I think they call it experimental because it's flaky - erratic. Doesn't work on all web sites. My ipod touch works better for that purpose. However, it's great as a kindle device. The font size is adjustable, so I can read without glasses. I don't notice the ads (just ignore them) and don't miss the backlight. Glad I bought it.

I have always been a "hard copy" kind of person, so I was not expecting to fall in love with the kindle as much as I did. I love my books, but, with a recent embracing of a more minimalist lifestyle I needed something less space-consuming. I figured I would try it. I was nervous buying a refurbished product at first, but the deal was so good I could not pass it up. This kindle is perfect. I have used it daily for a few months now and it is holding up great. Having two kids, the poor thing has even been dropped a few times, and it is still good as new. The battery life is beyond anything I was expecting. It will go weeks before needing charged, despite daily use. I take it everywhere and love how it is small enough to fit into the diaper bag or most of the large inner coat pockets. The ease of customization and highlighting is also a huge bonus for me. There are some things that I was not expecting to love about the kindle. The ease of being able to take my whole library with me anywhere is amazing. I also love the privacy of being able to read whatever book I want without judgement. Also, it is so much easier to read the kindle with a sleeping baby in your arms than it is to balance and flip through a large book. I wish I had given the kindle a try sooner. Now that I have I am not going back!

I was hesitant to order a refurbished Kindle but now I'm very happy that I did. I had no issues with the refurbished Kindle, and I couldn't even tell that it was refurbished. It looked new to me! No scratches or anything, and the battery and everything seems to work just fine. I was able to buy the Kindle, a cute case, and a wall charging adapter all for less than the price of a new one.

Had an older Kindle ink (also refurbished). Love the upgrades on the 8th generation! The inks are so much easier on my eyes and the battery seems to last forever! Very lightweight, easy to use. And refurbs are very budget-friendly.

I bought this as a Christmas gift to my wife as her very early version Kindle broke, (after she stepped on it). Definitely not the Kindles fault. This new one is so much better than her original. She could not be more happy. I must admit I am extremely impressed with how perfect the unit looks. For a refurbished, it looks just like new.

I am a convert to the church of kindles. I have always that physical books were the only real medium for the written word and that e-readers were not adequate at capturing the experience of reading. My boyfriend purchased a kindle prior to myself, giving me the opportunity to experiment with it. While I was skeptical, I wound up enjoying the experience so much that I purchased one for myself. The convenience of this particular model cannot be beat: it is discreet, the perfect size and can hold many, many texts without difficulty. I appreciate how ergonomic it is, and I never once find myself struggling to hold it in my hands. The matte screen is really great and captures the experience of reading a book without the fear of glare or unreadability. There are some things that I am not necessarily thrilled about. The ads are rediculous, like seriously who on earth writes these things. They range from incomprehensible to "this is written for grandmas" and have given me lots of social media fodder for how comical they sometimes are. Because this is a refurbished model I have experienced some occasional bugginess, but never anything so detrimental that I feel I was being sold a faulty product. Lastly, the monthly payments Amazon offered for this product basically sealed the deal as it made the purchase much less daunting than a lump sum would be. All in all, this is a must for students, on the go readers and people who are scared to jump on the e-reader wagon.

I have been using my refurbished Kindle since August. It works beautifully 99% of the time - it seems to have a sensitive touch and sometimes the font size changes when I simply put it down- but other than that reading on it is a breeze. It’s great because all I can do on it is READ. I got used to my previous Fires backlight, so there was an adjustment period getting used to having to have proper reading light again, but the device itself is light, the text clear, the battery long lasting.

I am going to state here my experience with many products on Amazon. Some other reviews for certified refurbished products have said Amazon just gives them a defective model. I have had this happen to me before and I can say it is quite frustrating. I mean you pay for a product that Amazon just doesn't want. But in my experience it is a hit or miss scenario. I still purchase Certified Refurbished items because if it doesn't work you can just return it and either spend more and get a new one or but another Certified Refurbished. Okay that ends my little talk on Certified Refurbished now on the the Kindle So I had been planning on purchasing a Kindle Paperwhite on prime day for weeks and when the day came I saw that it was $90 which I was willing to spend but i thought I might look around a bit before I bought it. I eventually found the Certified Refurbished base model Kindle for $40 so I chose that instead and really I'm not disappointed. I would've liked the backlight and higher resolution but they aren't necessary, especially the resolution. The back light would also make the kindle act less like a book but I would've liked it, that is until I received the base Kindle. It acts exactly like a book and is easy to read and use. The text is clear and it has all the features of higher models making it a good choice if you are on the edge and want to save about $40. Overall it is a very good product and I can't wait to use it more and more.

I usually stay away from used or refurbished electronics because of negative experiences in the past (with other retailers) but this item was worth the gamble. I searched for anything that would discredit this item and couldn't find a thing. The screen and plastic casing were in perfect condition and even had that 'new' smell.

The big problem I have had with reading books on a tablet is outside. This reader is great in outside conditions. Inside, you do need normal light, but your eye strain is gone. Now I can do more reading. I totally love this Kindle.
