I can't compare this to a soda stream because I've never had one of those. What I had was an addiction to Diet Coke which was easily translated into a harder addiction for La Croix and more recently Bubly. I fell in love with fizzy water. Hard. The amount of recycling was getting embarrassing. The UPS guy was getting annoyed with my endless orders from Amazon. After being trapped in the desert (ok, Las Vegas) with NONE of my choices available, I fell i love with plain soda water, seagrams and smart water. So now that I had given up on flavoring, I thought I might try the Drinkmate. HOLY SMOKES. It is now the most used appliance in my kitchen. I LOVE this thing. I was having a problem keeping my water shatteringly cold though (like you can get out of the fridge in cans--plastic just does not cut it for me, usually) I had a 33 ounce bottle of smartwater which I put in the freezer to get cold. Some ice formed on the inside of the plastic bottle. When I wanted to carbonate that water, I simply poured in into the drinkmate container and then squeezed the smartwater bottle. The ice inside the smart water bottle SHATTERED into lovely sheets of ice which stayed in the bottle. I carbonated what was poured--I carbonate a LOT, eight quarter second pumps at a time--uncap and repeat. i love my water to bite back. Then poured it BACK into the ice filled smart water bottle. HEAVEN for HOURS! Freezing, ice filled, bold bubbly water for days! I'm not close to the break even price point yet, but I dont care. This is better than anything I can find on the market and I can have it any time. I switch 2-3 bottle out a day so one is always chilling, one is in the fridge and one is on my desk. Yeah, I kinda dig it! Two notes--the Co2 cartridge it comes with is tiny. I received on a friday and it ran out on a Sunday. Granted I had no idea what I was doing and i DID sparke a ton of water, but be prepared, if you like this, you'll buy another cartridge quickly and I cannot find any with prime shipping, but the replacements did get here quickly. From now on i will be prepared to exchange the 60's locally at half the price. I've seen a few reviews saying that the water is not fizzy enough. That's an easy fix. Fizz it again. As long as you release the pressure (its' very intuitive after a few tries) you can load it back up and add more bubbles.

We’ve had this seltzer maker for about two months, and so far, it works like a charm. Two warnings: first, this version of the seltzer maker comes with a small cylinder that does not last long, and, where we live, cannot be refilled, so buying the version with the 60 liter cylinder is a better deal; second, the seltzer maker carries a warning that the bottle receiving the seltzer should be replaced after about three years. I don’t know if the bottle will even be available then; also, at our rate of usage my sense is that we would not realize any savings over purchasing bottles of seltzer before we incurred an additional expense for a replacement bottle. Still, we no longer have to lug heavy bottles of seltzer back from the grocery store and drink seltzer toward the bottom of the bottle that is flat. There is also a benefit to the environment, as we have cut back on our usage of plastic.

My family and I gave up sugary soda pop years ago and made the switch to plain carbonated water. We’ve been buying those plastic bottle cases at Costco and wanted to do something more economical and environmentally sound. We initially tried soda stream but did not find that to be a suitable solution. This product has exceeded our expectations. I also happen to be blind and I’ve had to call them repeatedly with questions to guide me through the process which is extremely simple if you can see better than me. I have received nothing but exceptional customer service, love the product and so happy we are no longer buying all of those wasteful plastic bottles. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone interested in a better more affordable option for your carbonated beverages.

This thing is so easy to use. Make sure to buy CO2 canister from bedbathandbeyond. You'll get it for $15 if you return an empty canister.

Perfect amount of carbonation. Bubbles are very small so you feel the fizz in the back of your throat. Makes the water taste better. I add a pinch of koolaide from the packets to my water for a little flavor with no sugar, so much cheaper than other flavorings. I have made herbal iced tea and carbonated it. I am so happy I don't have any more cans to deal with. I bought glass bottles that I transfer to and I keep about 5 of them on hand. Always use cold water and pump a few more times if you are not going to drink it that day. So far they have held the carbonation for 4 days. Wish I bought this years ago!

tried it with white wine... it's the closest you'll ever get to home made champagne It's great!

Owned a SodaStream for 2 years, and just assumed that making sparkling water at home meant you have to settle for "barely sparkling". Wish I had bought this to begin with. Totally worth the extra dough. Carbonates just as well as store bought sparkling water. Also recommend leaving the infuser cap on, rather than using the other regular bottle cap. It keeps it even fresher.

Really carbonates well. I like very carbonated beverages. I waffled around whether to get this or a SodaStream and, while not having purchased a SodaStream to compare to, was very pleasantly surprised at how well this did. Very easy to use, very smooth and controlled, and produces VERY carbonated water. One thing to note, the amount of CO2 that water can absorb is very dependent upon temperature; so, use very cold water. Further, this machine lets you keep the cap on when you remove the bottle after carbonation. It's counterintuitive but, shake the bottle before opening it as this will increase the amount of CO2 the water absorbs. I suspect that you shouldn't do this later, after opening, when the CO2 percentage and pressure is less - I suspect it won't work and you will lose fizz.

Worked great, but broke after three months. Metal pulse button on top got stuck and nothing will pry it lose. Exchange would be awesome. NOTE: Updated rating to five stars after they provided a free replacement, been working great since then!

So far it has been great. We had SodaStream that started spraying liquid all over the place when we used it after only about 1 year. I read a review on the Drinkmate and decided to try it because I wanted to carbonate other liquids besides water. I also did not want to have to flavor the water with artificial flavors. I mostly use the Drinkmate for carbonating fruit juice. My kids love it. I also like the fact that it does a lot better job of carbonating than the SodaStream. It takes about 3 or 4 short presses to get very carbonated liquid. The SodaStream took about 8 or more to get decent carbonation. I don't know how the SodaStream gets such good reviews unless we got a dud.
