Like it more than my Hydrometer
It works. Just be sure to follow the directions on the calibrating solution for SALTWATER tanks. If you read the directions in the box for the refractometer it’s for freshwater.

Accurate and easy to use - good value
Aquarium store folks indicated that this type of product was more accurate than the older plastic salinity tester. We purchased the model which is much less expensive than the high end version based on reviews and it seems to work great. It did not need adjusting to calibrate, though I tried to just to see how it worked. Very easy, turn screw very slowly to calibrate. Ultimately, the measurement was exactly the same as our old tester. Guess we did not really need it, but good to know the reading is consistent and now we have a backup with the old one.

Make sure it’s adjusted properly or your reading will be off
Now this is great but you still need to buy an instant ocean hydrometer to make sure your readings match. The instant ocean hydrometer will always be right . Make sure to knock out the bubbles on the white dial by hitting it with your knuckle. So once your instant ocean shows a measurement. Compare it with the refractometer and adjust the refractometer so that it matches.

Good quality, accurate readings and simple to use.
Good quality and simple to use refractometer. Be sure to adjust the focus by turning the eye focal when you first receive. (best seen under bright light conditions) I would suggest purchasing the salt calibration solution. (well worth it) Looks to provide very accurate readings. Save yourself a lot of money and buy it here on Amazon for only $20, don't buy it from your local pet store for $30 or more as you will most likely receive the same exact product manufactured in the same exact factory and country just rebranded under a different label.

I was getting unexpected readings so I took this to my LFS. They got different results than me with both my hydrometer and this refractrometer. Got out the calibration fluid - turns out this was spot on dead accurate above all three types of measuring devices - and multiple refractrometers!

Great product
I just got my refractor. It came with all that was listed in the in production description. Next I calibrated the refractor with the calibration solution that I ordered too. The refractor was off out off the box. The initial reading was 1.024 with the calibration solution. Adjusted the refractor to the 1.026 for calibration fluid. Next tested my water. The water was at what I expected it should be. This refractor should last a good number of years. It is heavy and easy to read in any light. I would recommend this product to anyone that has a marine aquarium. I will update later to see if the refractor will keep its calibration.

Perfect. Super easy to use. Consistent.
I couldn't decide between this and one of the float arm meters or both. Started with this. It is the only one I need. It works great. So easy to use. A couple drops of water on the glass, close the plastic cover and look through eye piece with the plastic lid aimed at a light source = very easy to see exact salinity on scale (clear line shows the salinity on the meter inside). Wipe down glass surface to dry it and put it back on the shelf til next time. I run brackish tanks and it works perfectly. It is consistent with known samples (new mix of water/salt) and with repeat checks of the same source. I couldn't be happier with this.

You will never go back to using a hydrometer with this refractometer!
I've had this refractometer for several months now and I have compared it with others. Seem to have the same build as the higher end refractometers and a quality you can feel. Works like a standard refractoemeter and I would definitely recommend this to all reefers, time to get rid of your old hydrometer!

Worth every penny.
Came perfectly calibrated, easy to read and really clear instructions. I really liked that it includes pipettes, a cleaning cloth, a screwdriver for calibration and a sturdy case so you have everything you need to maintain the life and accuracy of the refractometer. Seems like a really good quality product and at a really awesome price for anybody wanting to start a saltwater tank spend the extra ten bucks and get one of these and not a swing arm tester these are more accurate and last a lot longer.

Very nice refractometer!
Works perfectly as tested against a known instrument. Calibrated and accurate right out of the box. I am one of those old-school guys who loves the floating hydrometer. Not always possible to use one -- there's not always enough water. Loving this new tool because all I need is two drops of water. Very easy now to make sure salinity is right before releasing new animals into my tank.
