I'm not an IT expert or computer specialist, so I won't get into the technical details of this modem, but what I can tell you is I've been using it for about 4 months now and it's performed perfectly. I have Comcast Xfinity Internet service with a 150mbps plan. This modem gives me consistent speeds all day long, and has never failed. Setting it up was easy, just plug it in, go to Comcast's web site and register it as a new device and I was up and running in about 10 minutes. I use it with a Luma Whole Home WiFi System (3 Pack - White) - Replaces WiFi Extenders and Routers, Works with Alexa, Simultaneous Dual Band 2.4/5GHz, Parental Controls/Security, Gigabit Speed, WPA/WPA2 Encryption and together they are giving me solid Internet throughout the house. If you're considering buying your own model, definitely do. The rental fees Internet providers charge are a total rip off. Within a year you'll had paid for this device and then you're off the hook for the rest of your life!

I'll start with the bad ... the instructions say to have your web browser open when you connect an Ethernet cable between the new modem and your computer and a link will open to facilitate activation. The link never opened. I called Time Warner and their agent was able to activate the modem in about 5 minutes. The good ... I did a wifi download speed test before installing the new modem. With the TWC modem download speed was 34.03 Mbs. When performing the same speed test after installing the new modem the down load speed was 59.09 Mbs, an increase of 73%. Web pages definitely load faster so I am very pleased with the purchase and highly recommend this product. Haven't tried streaming content from Netflix or Amazon on the TVs yet but expect it will only be better also.

I needed a replacement for an old Arris 4x4 channel modem. It was a rock solid modem, but just couldn't keep up with current speeds. I read a lot of information about problems with modems designed with Intel's Puma6 chipset, so I wanted to avoid those. And realistically, who needs more than 16 downstream channels anyway? (well, maybe if you have a large household with more than a handful of users) So I narrowed my search to the Arris SB6183, the Netgear CM500, and this Motorola MB7420. The CM500 was mostly enclosed with only holes at the top and bottom for airflow, so I was concerned that heat might be an issue. Between the SB6183 and MB7420, Motorola won me over with the Full-Band Tuner and integrated surge protection. Only took about 10 minutes to get this up and running with Suddenlink, and it's been stable and fast so far. Really happy with it.

This Motorola MB 7420 modem works great. I bought this to replace my old Motorola SB 6121 which lasted for a long time without any problems but I had to replace it because I upgraded my internet speed from 75mbps to 200mbps and the old modem only supported up to 100 Mbps. This one works greats and gives me a max speed of 240 Mbps on my 200mbps speed. I got the white one (which looks really nice by the way) because I bought 2 new apple AirPort Extreme base station routers which are white so I wanted them to match. I want to add that if you're looking for a router, the Apple AirPort Extreme 6th Generation is hands down the best router out there. Technical users might not like it but it is great for a user who just wants to set up the router once and never look back. Simple 5 minute setup with the phone app and have never had to once restart them. Anyways, I've had this modem for almost a month and have never needed to restart it. Motorola is a dependable brand. I give it 5 stars.

I had much difficulty with the installation, but as it turns out, I had it right all along. My problem was that I did not wait for my router (Airport Express) to sync with the modem after installing. I'm so glad that I will not be paying Comcast anymore for modem rental. I should have purchased my own modem years ago!

If you have Comcast, this is really easy to install. I swapped it with my 5 year old Motorola surfboard modem (4 down, 1 up) and waited about 10 minutes as it updated the modem automatically (the modems lights put on quite a show). Then I was redirected to the 'install your purchased modem' page in my web browser. I logged in and then the Comcast server added the modem to it's system. One last refresh of the modem happened automatically and in another 3 minutes I was connected to the internet. No phone call was needed. My download speeds were maxed out at 15 mega-bits on the old modem. Now I get the full 25 mega-bits. I was already at the maximum upload speed, so that did not change.

Not all DOCSIS v3.0 modems are the same. I bought this 16 downstream channel unit to replace my Arris CM820a unit (8 downstream channels) to help future proof my installation. Nothing wrong with the CM820a- it never missed a beat and had a built in power supply I liked. When I swapped the modem, I didn't notice any speed difference. I was getting 180M down and 12M up- I was paying for 150M down and 8M up, so I couldn't be happier with the speeds with either modem. However, recently I upgraded my service to "Extreme 250" and the old modem wouldn't accept the new speed tier. It would just default to 90M down and 6M up. After several tier 2 support calls to Comcast, we figured out what the problem was- we needed a 16 channel modem- I swapped the MB7420 back into the mix and BAM... 300M down and 30M up... awesome.. all for the same price with a renewal! I couldn't be happier. See before and after speed tests after upgrading my service with this new modem. Hopefully this tip will help others.

I purchased this to replace the Arris 1670 series modem I was leasing from Time Warner. I just wanted to save on the high modem leasing fees, but when I plugged it in and activated it, I noticed a 50% increase in download and 150% increase in upload speed. I had tested my speed immediately before and after installing it. My download speeds immediately went from 102Mbps to 154Mbps (download) and 9.8 Mbps to 25.6 Mbps (upload). I don't often take the time to leave reviews on products, but I felt this product warranted it.

I am so very glad I have this cable modem for internet access; I've owned it since June of 2017 and I'm writing this comment a year later in July 2018. It fits perfectly into the Comcast system with no problem at all. Comcast Tech Support found the device connected in my home and it went on-line on the first try. My return on investment to stop paying the $10/mo rental fee ended in 7 months. Comcast has upped my data rate to 150 Mbps, and I am getting 14-18 MB/s download speed with no hiccups. Sometimes my download pipeline is greater than what Comcast promises. I check Speedtest.net once a month or so, and I have never seen a performance drop. Cycling on the modem to connect to the Comcast servers is very quick (25 secs). This is an excellent investment in internet hardware. It is well built. It also needs air room so the heat can dissipate; I would not put this in a closed space or cabinet.

Purchased this modem for a couple of reasons. First, moving up to DOC SIS 3.0 modem (from 2.0) allow me to take advantage of my ISP's 60 MB download and 10 MB uploads offered at no cost increase from the 5 MB download/1 MB upload service I've had for several years. Second, this modem was replacing a Motorola modem that I'd been using for several years without any problems. In fact, it was still working like a champ when I swapped it out. So I've been very happy with Motorola. Third, this model has the capability to handle even faster speeds should they be available in the future. Fourth. I've always purchased my ,modems rather than "rent them" from my cable/ISP, because purchasing pays for itself in usually less than 2-years. Finally, I thought it would be a change of pace to have a piece of white colored tech on my desk as everything else is black plastic. I should also mention that it was very easy to install. My ISP (Mediacom) recognized the new device and ran some software that was supposed to "register" it to my existing computer and account. Although there was a point in this process where, in my opinion, a glitch in the ISP's software didn't want to register the device, a call to technical support at my ISP resulted in a completely successful registration in just a few minutes. I love the faster speeds.
