Feliway Comfort Zone diffusers are great for reducing stress in cats. They help prevent aggression and urine marking in the home. But, they are really expensive- $15-18 per monthly refill. I had the idea to use a $5 appliance timer (electric socket timer from Home Depot) to reduce the amount of Feliway dispensed by the Diffuser. To ensure the Diffuser is releasing product frequently (keeps cats happy and keeps wick from dryin g out), I use a timer that allows for 15 minute intervals and set it to supply electricity 1/3 of the time (ie on for 15 minutes off for 30 minutes). The timer makes the product last at least 3 times as long so it pays for itself in less than a month. Feel free to experiment with the timing and share but note that having it of for long periods could lead to drying of the wick. Perhaps you can get away with having it on for just 15 of every hour or two, it will depend on your cat's level of stress, and wick performance. I would start with it being on 1/2 of the time and gradually decrease the time as kitty feels better. I hope this tip will help people to keep their beloved kitties and help kitties heal from the issues that lead them to fight or potty in the house. Please repost this tip on any animal related sites. Here is a similar timer to mine: ttps://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B006LYHED0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Helped my cat after his long relocation from Australia to Kentucky and into a home with two dogs.

First off, my parents' 12 yr old cat has never been the nicest cat. She seems to be more stressed out since all of us kids moved out and my parents travel a lot. She bites my mom pretty frequently and pees places other than the litter box. Our vet suggested we try these Feliway plugins. I was skeptical, but I trust the vet, plus there's nothing to lose by trying it. This stuff really works though! She hasn't bitten my mom since my parents started using the plug ins and she is actually kind of friendly now! She has always been kind of an aloof cat, but now when I come over, she will hang around people and say hi and want to be petted. She hasn't peed anywhere other than the litter box since they started using these either. I cannot recommend the Feliway plug ins enough!

I was initially so reluctant to spend the money to try this out after my vet recommended it, but wow what a huge difference it makes in my cat's anxiety. He is much more comfortable in his environment and is more enjoyable since he is no longer running and hiding from everyone. 100% worth a try - I was shocked at how well this stuff works.

November 7th, 2018. The pictures scared me too. However, I've heard nothing but good things about feliway and I am having issues with integrations involving two male cats so I decided to try it. I read most of the reviews and the higher-rated one says that as long as you follow directions it shouldn't be a problem. So I ordered it and received it November 1st and the directions pretty much said "unscrew diffuser, insert diffuser into plug, insert plug into outlet." Literally, that was it. Maybe other people have older outlets or funky wiring, I really don't know but it's been running for a week straight now and I've had zero issues. I have religiously checked the diffuser everyday and there's no burning. There's not even a hint of burning, no melting, nothing. Perhaps I'm one of the lucky ones or perhaps the company upgraded the diffuser, I'm not really quite sure. I'm just here to say that I've had no issues with it and it's working like it's supposed to be.

Have been using this since I received it. . Yes all of our cats are spayed and neutered. We have three siblings cats. And one female that is not a sibling. . One or more of them were intentionally peeing outside of the litter box. . But since I have received this item we have not noticed them constantly peeing outside of the litter box. We would clean up the mess of P in a few hours later there would be another one so haven’t noticed since I have received this item. Never had anything like this before just going on what I have experienced.

The vet hospitals I’ve worked at previously use this as part of their “fear free” clinics. I now do rescue work for a humane society and we use this all the time to help cats ranging from feral kittens to grumpy old cats to skittish cas who have very limited experience other than one or two people. I also use this at home for my 3 cats, all rescues, 2 of which have behavioral issues. One is extremely fearful and the other was abandoned by her mother as an infant and had to be fed formula from a bottle ( aka bottle baby) and is “ over stimulated” (aka possessed by a demon on occasion). My fearful one is calmer and the demon cat likes to lay right under the diffuser. The gross smell goes away after the first day or two. The trick to making feliway work for cats is a) you need to use it regularly for up to a month. These are pheromones not a magical spray that instantly solves your problems. B) you need to work with your vet to determine what other underlying causes could be contributing to the behaviors and address those. For my older fearful cat, she has digestive issues so we have to feed her a strict diet and give her supplements for inflammation. She also does better if allowed some time away from the demon cat. For the demon cat, she needs appropriate outlets for her craziness. Lots of exercise, cat scratchers and mental stimulation. And an exorcism every now and then. Did feliway stop my cat from pooping outside the litter box? No, because it was a medical issue not a behavioral issue. Once we diagnosed and treated the medical issue, the feliway made her feel more comfortable about coming out into the open. Is my demon cat still a demon sometimes? Yes, but she doesn’t wake us I’m in the middle of the night screeching at us thanks to the strategically placed diffuser by our bed. Thanks feliway!!!!

This product seems to work well, but I would add that it does not have the same effect on every cat, so if you are a multi cat home, you might see varying results per cat. This item appears to work well, and, we have purchased refills and I've had no complaints so far. I recommend giving it a try.

This product works like a charm. I have a compulsive cat that for a couple of years now has been ripping out small patches of hair on both shoulder areas (nothing else is wrong with him that could be causing the hair pulling other than anxiety, according to the veterinarian). Whenever new people came over, he would for days-weeks be excessively pulling out hair and I would find tufts of hair around the house. Within 1 week of using this product, he has ceased to pull out any hair. This is a product that I will be purchasing regularly for a long time to come. Thank you for helping out my little buddy with his anxiety. Give this product a try - I know it doesn't work for all cats but, it has been so comforting to mine.

It worked!! We had a new treadmill delivered and installed in our basement. Never would I have believed our rescue cat would react so emotionally to it....it was awful! He wouldn’t go anywhere near our stairs, hid and wouldn’t come out from under the bed, clawed and meowed like his life was in imminent danger each time we carried him past the treadmill to the room where he sleeps. Our perfectly stable and healthy cat was experiencing an extreme case of anxiety over the new treadmill installation. The first day of plugging in this product the cat came out from under the bed. Second day he was calmer and more like himself. By the third day he was sitting on the treadmill checking it out for the first time. I plugged the unit into the outlet right next to the treadmill. Because of other reviews saying that the unit overheats, I did unplug it each night. Very pleased with this product!
