the inner shifter boot (underneath the center console) was 20 years old and completely rotted out, you could feel hot air from the motor coming up thru the floor, thru the center console and into the cabin. This replacement was a direct fit. the hardest part was removing the console to get to it, that takes a few minutes), after that it was 4 screws, and I replaced it in about 30 seconds. I should be good for another 20 years! This was for a 1998 Jeep TJ SE 2.5l 4cyl. 5 speed P.S. the cabin is much cooler now!
It's a direct fit, now there is no more heat, noise and road grime entering the cab, I ended up getting 2 because the mail carrier lost the first one; if your mail carrier is not careless or dumb get it here, the price is half what it is in other places! The packaging is something I never seen before, I like it because it is minimalistic.
No more warm air on my legs! Bought a 1998 TJ that was missing this boot. It has a plastic ring made into it to seal the edge. Replaced it without removing the console, just removed the shifter boot and loosened the front of the console. Less than 30 minutes.

This is heavy duty rubber material that reduces road noise and more importantly the intense heat from the transmission! I live in AZ and I already have enough heat from the sun. The last thing I needed was more hot air coming from my handbrake and this eliminated it!

Bought this to replace a failed unit in a 1988 jeep Cherokee XJ with 4.0 and BA10 5Speed. It required a little massaging to fit but lined up almost perfectly. No more hot air blowing into the cabin as I drive!
Took 20 minutes to install with the console still in. One of the weirdest packaging I have ever seen come to my door but there were no tears or holes. Perfect fit for my TJ. I live in two different states and with polar opposite weather conditions. This boot stopped road noise and engine noise by much more than I expected. Very happy with the product.
