This is an awesome toy! The train looks really expense as a toy! The sound is incredible! My grandkids age 6, 5, 4 and 3 spend hours playing with this train while watching the Polar Express movie. It does take a lot of batteries both in the train and the remote, but it is well worth it.

Great train for a great price! Saw bad reviews about this item, let me say none of it was true. The track goes together and stays together, the couplers work fine and the train stays on the track. This a sharp little train and fun for the Kids. I have four grandchildren and they love it!

My wife thought it would be nice to run a cute seasonal train around our Christmas tree to entertain our young boy. We looked at a few options and eventually found this one. For the price, especially on Amazon, the quality is truly exceptional. The track goes together nicely and comes in enough pieces for three distinct layouts; circle, oval, and square. The track clips together in a very high quality way that seems like it is going to last a while. And I was very surprised with the attention to detail of the train and other cars. Once you've put all the batteries in the remote and train, you flick the on switch on the train, and also on the remote and you can move the train forwards or backwards at variable speeds with three different optional sound effects, as well as the standard train noise that happens whenever the train is moving or stationary (and is variable accordance to speed). We got it as a seasonal entertainment piece, but it certainly impressed me regarding the Lionel brand, and if our son gets a little older and wants to play with a more elaborate train set outside of Christmas, I'd consider this brand high on my list of places to look, as I'm sure their more expensive sets could become pretty amazing.

My son loves trains and he was asking if we could have a train to put under our tree this year so I looked around locally and found the typical Christmas train sets that all range from about $40-$100. Most are sold out at this time in the stores and I almost didn't get one until I decided to look on Amazon.. I found this by accident and it is perfect since my son just watched and really "got" the Polar Express this season. He stops whatever he is doing and watches it all the way through so I ordered this set and it really is great!! It's from a company that makes good quality hobby trains and the little details are all there. It is plastic but you can't tell really and it runs very smoothly.. we used an oval pattern and it runs with no issue at any speed we set it at. The sounds are all controlled by remote and it is simple to operate. I read reviews about issues derailing and flimsy parts but I don't see anything poorly made it's just simple and it isn't hobby grade so I can't try to hold it to that standard!! It's likely better than most of the train sets at this price point and as good as most slightly above so this is well worth the price especially at the current $60 it is going for with prime.. There's still time to get one before Christmas and I would recommend this to anyone looking to add that little extra to their decorations and experience for the holidays!

I found this train set to be very high-quality and was packaged very well. The kids loved it at Christmas and we were able to re-packet in the box that it came in so that it safe for next year. The only improvement that I would suggest is that if the train is moving forward it automatically makes the sound of a locomotive... which is really neat if you are actively playing with it, but a bit annoying if you just wanted to turn on this train and let it run continuously. If there was an option to run the train without any sound that would be ideal. Plenty of track to cover around a large Christmas tree and to even make different shapes if you want to. We used it on carpet that I would consider medium links and we didn't have any problems with the train staying on the track unless it hit something or someone bumped it. Design is very much like you'd see in the movie and looks identical so great attention to detail! All in all this was an excellent purchase and glad we got it !!!

We got this for an under the Christmas tree train set. It comes with all necessary components to do this. Remote, track, and train included. Makes train noises! The train was much larger than expected, but this is not a bad thing. About 4-5in tall and 3-4in wide, 10-12in long. Only 4 cars long, but due to size this is probably max length given the turning radius. Overall we are very happy with this set. The quality of the components is high. The train looks great, lots of detail and Polar Express theme is fun. Packaging is secure and reusable for storage. The remote is great - can go forward, reverse, and three sound buttons. Only complaint is the track doesn't always lay flat. For some reason when the curves are connected, they tend to bend up on the inside of the track. This can cause the engine to slip and the train to get stuck. It doesn't happen too often though. Also be prepared to go through batteries, if your kids like to watch it for hours at a time.

We bought this for our 6 year old son, he is a big Polar Express fan and this toy did not disappoint, track was very easy to put together and there are three configurations for the track, circle, extended circle and oval. The track fit perfectly around our tree in the extended circle configuration. The train works flawlessly and you control sounds with a wireless remote. Sounds are a whistle, a horn or the conductor. Son absolutely loves it, would highly recommend it for a young train enthusiast!

For the PRICE (and that's important) this gets five stars all the way around. Assembly was simple, the train pieces are solid and the bells, whistles, and sounds, are really clear. The sound button says, "All aboard! This is the Polar Express!" I had zero issues with the train the railing though I installed it on a hard laminate floor. The quality of the set leads me to believe it will be around for years to come with proper care. My two-year-old son absolutely loves it and looks forward to it every morning when he wakes up.

After seeing all of the recent reviews I was a little scared when I ordered the Polar Express Train set to put around our Christmas tree this year. I thought for $60 I would take a chance. Wow am I glad I did! First of all I put the track together in no time at all. All of the pieces, even though they are plastic, snapped together with no problem. Next I put the batteries in the locomotive and it sure does add some weight to it. I was afraid the extra weight would make it sluggish or not want to pull the other 3 cars around the track. Then I put the batteries in the remote and added the other 3 cars. All connected easily and went on the track with no issues. So the moment of truth...Turned the train on, then the remote. I first tested the sounds and all worked great. The headlight was also working. So here we go...I put it in forward...I went slow for the first few laps expecting a derailment or something, especially after the recent reviews. To my (and my wife and daughters delight) everything went perfect. So we upped the speed and still no issue! Then we slowed the train down and tried it in reverse....still worked perfect!! We did put this on a flat, laminate floor so that may have helped. I'm not sure how it would have done on carpet. Anyway I am so glad I took the gamble on this! Everyone (except our little shi-tzu Oscar) love it!! I can't wait to try it tonight when it is dark. For just using it at Christmas I look forward to many more years of enjoyment...provided Oscar doesn't attack it! :) Merry Christmas!!
