Very satisfied with this. I like the glass. It's fast, too. I read some of the other reviews ... don't really understand the negative reviews. The controls work just fine. I agree that it is larger than others, but that's not a good reason for a negative review. I bought it knowing that it would be larger than my previous steamer ..., but it's also better. Update: I'd give this six stars if I could. My wife likes cold chicken. I don't. When we have fried or grilled chicken, I don't usually bother with the leftovers. I don't think it's all that good warmed up in the microwave. It's a little better warmed up in a toaster oven, but usually overdone and dry. Last night, I decided to try this new steamer. It has a glass dish. We've never cooked anything except vegetables in the other one with the plastic container. So, after five minutes ... no pre-heat ... just in the cold glass dish and set at Manual - 5 minutes. Moist, tender, warmed-over grilled chicken thighs that were very near to fresh-cooked flavor. That's fast and that's impressive. I have a cooking torch, so I could have seared the outside for a crispy texture, but I didn't this time.

PROS: - Glass and steel with minimal plastic (the water reservoir) - Easy settings; from presets to manual timing - Nice LCD screen CONS: - A bit on the heavy side - Hard to find at a local retail store SUMMARY: A very nicely made steamer ... that doesn't utilize plastic in the direct cooking areas. Solid quality build of both the glass cooking pot and the electronics section below. Easy to use. It is a bit heavy, but that's a trade off I'll take any day over the steamers that utilize plastic in their cooking areas.

I can now cook fish consistently well thanks to this steamer! It's very well made and the large reservoir of water is so helpful. I do use bottle water and not tap water, as we do have "harder" water where I live. The presets worked well and the stainless grating is easy to clean and has shown zero rust. The base and lid are mainly made of sturdy glass. Oh and veggies turn out so crisp and full of flavor. Oh and steaming dumplings in this is so awesome. One trick I've been doing is to use the steamer to do 90-95% of the cooking and then placing it on the grill or stove to sear the meat or veggies for some added flavor.

After realizing I needed to get more veggies into my diet, I decided to purchase this steamer based on reviews and the fact it is a durable glass dish. Having owned this product for a few weeks now I have found myself getting 3-4 servings of vegetables a day, and more importantly eating at home much more often. I have, and will continue to, recommended this product to anyone who doesn't have the time or patience to cook in an oven. The container is large enough to cook a good deal of food, and the timer function makes cooking extremely convenient. Set it and forget it. When I wake up in the morning I will put in a couple of handfuls of baby carrots and broccoli for 15-20 minutes, go take a shower, and by the time I am ready for work I just package up the veggies in a box for my lunch. It hard boils as many eggs as you can fit in there (well over a dozen) in 15 minutes. Sweet potatoes ready in 25 minutes, and don't lose any moisture as if I were cooking them in the oven or microwave (yes, I'm probably doing it wrong in the oven, so there is that). The main advantages for me are 1) The time. No waiting for the oven or stove to heat up. 2) Automatic shutoff. Figure out an appropriate time for each dish and you can go do whatever you want while it cooks. 3) To me, steamed veggies hold their flavor better than what I get in the oven (again, I'm sure there are ways to cook in the oven for which this can be avoided, but also see 1 and 2). 4) The product appears to be very well made, and I'm hoping it lasts for years to come. At this point I don't see any disadvantages to this product. Sure, you have to refill the water tank, but you can get about a good 40 minutes of steam per tank.

Fantastic cookware that's worth the extra cost, hope you catch it on sale if it goes under $100! This is healthy cooking without using butter and oil while cooking in glass instead of the more common plastic steamers just gives me more peace of mind. I use this to cook my work lunch which is typically a salmon cutlet, broccoli heads and mixed vegetables--all tossed in frozen. I set it at 15 minutes and everything cooked perfect from the get-go, super fast. Veggies are crisp and more flavorful, the fish moist and not raw at all, quickly seasoned and transferred to my Pyrex Portables 4-Piece Glass Bakeware and Food Storage Set and then it's off to work. Design is quite clever as the condensation flows down the sides so the food is never in any standing water, cleanup is super easy as the metal tray allows the rendered fish fat to fall through the grates. Looks very attractive on the kitchen counter although my only very minor grip is the plastic selector knob, could have easily used matching stainless steel. Overall I can confidently say that this would make a very generous gift for any occasion, this is top-notch quality.

LOVE!!!! Beautifully made, it's large but not too big for a single person. I'm a vegan so veggies are my life and this is incredible ;) Very easy to use, steams fast, simple to clean up, engineered and designed very well. When you lift the lid to remove the metal plate holding the veggies, the handles are not hot - I was impressed with that detail. Highly recommend!!

There aren't many options for glass steamers and this is perfect and worth every penny! Super easy to clean and a nice large water resivoir so I don't need to refill with every use as I steam my food at least twice a day. The water resivoir does sit on the back of the unit which makes the whole steamer take up a bit more space on the counter. Even with this, the peace of mind knowing my meals are heated in glass is worth it also. Definitely a must have steamer! I should mention that the first one I got had an issue with warped plastic in the water resivoir. HOWEVER, Amazon sent me a replacement product (a whole new steamer) free of charge as well as free shipping to send the other product back. Thanks Amazon! UPDATE: We have steamed fish, chicken breast, and tons of various veggies. Everything comes out perfect and completely done with the presets!

so many dollars wasted over the years on stackable plastic steamers! After owning this one... I'll never go back to plastic! It cooks very quickly and thoroughly!

I have two of these - one at home and one at work. I use them for cooking pretty much everything - vegetables, oatmeal, fish, eggs, and frozen food. I often use the steamer the same way I would use a microwave - I put food in a Pyrex or Corelle dish, and then put the dish in the steamer. That way, I don't have to wash anything but the dish. The steamer is almost as fast as a microwave, and the food tastes way better. Since I have been using the steamer, I think that I was mistaken to ever think that cooking food with microwaves was a good idea. I especially like the results I get with frozen food. Frozen food needs to be spread out on the dish, and I sometimes have to pour off some water after cooking the food. But the taste is amazing. Frozen vegetables are often fresher than anything you can get at the market, because they are frozen right after they are picked. The steamer thaws them evenly and then cooks them just the right amount, without destroying the flavor. The vegetables taste like they came from a very expensive restaurant. And I can even serve them in the warm dish that they were cooked in - something the expensive restaurants rarely can do.

In a quest to try and eat healthier, I decided a steamer would help me. This thing is such a time saver! I buy the big packages of chicken breasts from costco, portion them out, freeze and when I want a quick and easy dinner I take one out and let it defrost for a few hours. Pop a chicken breast in here, an ear of corn or some small red potatoes and voila! 20-25 mins later you have an amazing meal. I usually put everything in when I get home from work, set the timer and go about my business until it's done. It's super easy to use and also has a manual cooking setting so you can steam on your own setting. The glass dish is super sturdy and the stainless rack flips over for a higher or lower setting away from the steam. The water tank on the back is good for 2 days per my usage. It really is helping me eat so much better because I'm kind of lazy when it comes to cooking after a 9 hour day at work. This takes virtually no preparation, it's super easy to clean and it's very well built. What more could you ask for? Yes, I would have liked a cook book or even a few recipes, but you can find all kinds online, so I don't think that's a deterrent.
