Best serious air purifier on the market for allergies and dust
I did not get this from Amazon, but unlike a Vine review, I did pay for it. I have 3 set up in my house with 3 Sharp Plasma Clusters. I'm trying to get rid of 2 IQAir health pro compacts that are just too loud and the pre-filter costs too much to replace every 6 mo. I will upgrade the review to 5 stars once the results from my Dylos laser particle counter are in over a few days. I didn't own the legacy Winix 5300, but from what I can tell this is pretty much the same thing with a smaller footprint, and to me, a more attractive minimalist design. Should also be able to use the cheaper Fellowes AP-300PH filters. The part number in the manual is 115115, same as the legacy unit. Update: These things are amazing. Left in sensor automatic mode, the baseline reading in the main part of the house where the Winix 5300-2's are went to almost zero on the dylos laser particle counter. It generally keeps the purifier on the lowest setting. The count was 9 small particles, and 1 large one. Anything below 75 is excellent, and below 300 is good. The Sharps + IQAir on full blast would get pretty low, but not that low and you couldn't stand to be in the house. I don't have a way to see how it does with VOC's, so I can't say how it holds up to a full size IQAir with a V5 odor and gas cell, but I'm not going to miss my IQAir compact that doesn't have that capability what so ever. The fan in the dylos is louder than the Winix.

ENERGY STAR CERTIFIED!... AND BY ME!š„š
Here is the Wattage breakdown measured with a Tacklife EM02 Classic Power Meter Energy Watt Voltage Amps Electricity Usage Monitor Tester with Overload Warning, LCD Display for Saving Energy Cost Electricity costs are based on the U.S. average of 12 cents / kwh run 24/7 : Sleep mode : 3.7w = $3.89/yr level 1: 5.7w = $6.00/yr level 2: 7.7w = $8.10/yr level 3: 12.1w = $12.72/yr level 4: 69.5w = $73.06/yr Don't forget these are costs for 24 hours a day. If you run the 12 hour timer, your prices will be nearly half that posted here. Level 4 is a Turbo mode which will super succ the air so it is high wattage for good reason. When you turn on Turbo mode you know why it the wattage is that higher. This Winix 5300-2 model is also Energy Star certified for good reason. Of course your mileage may vary on these costs as these are just averages. But you're likely to be on level 1 most of the time unless you live in a smoggy/smokey area. These energy costs should convince you to run your air purifier 24/7 unless you're really tight for money. 5/8/2018 EDIT ā°ā°:: She still works great!! I haven't had my annual Spring allergies at all since using it still!!š I just changed one of the black carbon filters cause it was getting very dusty. Amazed at how much dust this thing picked up in the short 4 months I had it!

I can use my office again!
I purchased this air purifier for my home office, which was recently added when we finished our basement. My office shares a wall with our small home gym, and in the home gym we installed some recycled rubber flooring (no adhesive, just laid it in tight against the walls). Prior to the rubber flooring being installed, I could use my office just fine; after the installation of the gym floor, sitting in my office caused my sinuses to drain and my throat to close up. We tried cheaper air purifiers, and even just fans in the windows of both rooms + closing the door between the rooms w/a towel under it, college style, but I could still only spend about 20 minutes in my beautiful new office before I felt like I might die. Not only was this a huge bummer, but it didn't result in much work being done (about 80% of my job is done from home). When I put this air purifier in my office -- sitting near the shared gym/office wall -- I noticed a slight difference after running it on high for about an hour. I left it on high all night and when I went into my office the following day, the difference was DRAMATIC. Where before the air had a heavy, chemical feeling to it -- like it was thick and hard to breathe in -- now the air felt crisper, lighter, and so clean. This little gadget has literally saved me. I don't know what I would have done without it!!! I also purchased two of the next model up, placing one in our basement family room and one in the kitchen upstairs. My husband brews beer in the basement bar, and it stinks to high heaven during the process. We also have two cats whose litter box is in our basement bathroom, and I SWEAR I can smell it whenever I walk down the stairs. Hubby brewed beer this past weekend, and I ran the air purifiers on turbo all day, and by evening you'd have never known what he'd been up to (usually I can smell hops for a week after he brews *gag*). The litter box smell has also disappeared, which is some kind of divine miracle, in my opinion. As a huge bonus, the only time you can really hear these machines is if they're on high or turbo (turbo is REALLY loud, but also not necessary most of the time). On the Auto setting, they're whisper quiet, to the point that I was constantly checking to make sure they were on. I have seen them adjust settings and indicate the air quality had changed, so I know they're working. Highly recommend these purifiers; they're the best!

Super quiet and powerful!
I am blown away by how quiet this air purifier is! I am mad that I didn't find this product before I ordered my germ guardian model last year. This winix is super quiet, even on the full speed. I will update with pictures in a few months after use. So far I am very impressed with the quality of this machine. It seems like it is moving a large amount of air, and is virtually silent. I have it in my kitchen and my fridge is louder than this air purifier!

It really works!!
My husband and I live in a small studio with 2 cats and a dog. He has asthma and it would get really bad before we bought this where he would wake up wheezing and not being able to breath. Now that we have the Winix air purifier, those problems have literally gone away. I was skeptical at first but it really does its job.

These air purifiers are helping our allergies!
We bought one and it works so nicely we ordered a second one. My husband has quit sniffling and coughing (having brought his collection of old history books back into the bedroom shelves he noticed an almost allergic effect) and since using this air purifier, he says he sleeps more soundly and no more sniffling and coughing. So, I got one for my spaces and I am noticing less phlegm related to allergies. ;)

Great for forest fire smoke
I live in a valley in Western Montana where we've been dealing with very heavy forest fire smoke all summer. It started to get so bad that smoke was making its way into our home as well, so something need to be done. I took a chance on this air purifier and it has really helped. We leave it on day and night. It's very quiet unless you use it on the highest setting. It's not meant for a huge room, but I usually leave it in my large living room and it does great. I highly recommend it if you are dealing with smoke from nearby fires.

So... I love this
I love it so much I bought another right away. I run these 24/7 in my 400 square foot living room and a slightly smaller bedroom. I have animals and since I started using these, there's a lot less dust and dander on the floor and other surfaces. I love the pre- filter..mainly because I can see the dust it's filtered out of the air and it's very gratifying (yes, it gets alot and I vacuum more than once a day),but also because it just works, and well. The pre filter is easy to clean (I use s Dyson dust attachment). The air just feels cleaner. It's not particularly noisy, about the same noise level as a large box fan. It's better looking than its predecessor (5200). I recommend not buying the OEM filters though, I found the non branded generic work just as well, at half the price...which matters especially when you are running 4 of these around the clock. Arrived as promised and was well packed.

Effective, but cant trust auto
I have had a 2015 model in the bedroom since 2015, it does a great job!! We have two dogs and three cats. Household air flow gets very low in the winter when the house is more closed in and the bedroom smelled despite our best efforts. Iāve been getting about 2 years out of the filter if I replace the carbon more frequently and vacuum the filter when I vacuum the floor. The older model has been very effective on auto but this one is a bit different. I have a garage converted into a media room, very closed in space, and the odors were becoming overwhelming. I purchased this model last week and it is as good as the first one Iāve had for three years or so. BUT there are differences. The air quality indicator lights arenāt nearly as sensitive as the older models and can be pretty much ignored- what theyāre indicating isnāt whatās happening. I get solid blue when I know thatās not the case. Secondly, this one is much quieter, even on the max setting. In fact, you have to turn this to max to hear it- donāt know if itās pulling less air on the lower settings than the older model ( that might account , in part, for the inaccurate indicator light) , or if itās just quieter. In short, I donāt trust AUTO mode right now, so I use the timer to run max setting for four or eight hour increments when Iām not using the room and use the lower settings when I am. Bottom line, though, is that this one is as effective at eliminating odors as the first one. The media room smells 100% better with only a few days usage. Assembly is very easy, BUT, you have to remove the filter to take the plastic wrapping off, then replace it- miss that step and youāll be very disappointed!! This one was nearly a hundred dollars less than my older model, so I guess I can still give it five stars for the savings. Would love to get the larger floor standing model, but at more than twice the price (and all in one filters they have means you canāt replace the carbon without replacing the entire filter!), I can adjust to idiosyncrasies of this one.
