Sorry to see that these lids are no longer available ... thinking ahead to next year's fermenting project. I was very new to fermenting anything until I started researching ways to preserve my cukes/pickles that I grew this past summer. I found all the information that I needed and more at the [...] And, if you join the "Fermenting Club", you have access to all kinds of recipes, questions and answers and SO MUCH more information from people that have been doing this for years. I was very excited to find this website and all the great information that it offered. I had originally started out wanting to "can" my organically grown vegetables. After much research, I realized, with the help and support of the GREAT team at easyfermenter, that when you "can", you boil the product in ball jars in a home canning system, and lose any chance of saving precious probiotics that you would have derived from the fermenting process. That made so much sense to me. So, I decided to ferment instead of can. Any questions that I had were quickly answered from the "contact us" link at easyfermenter. Wow ... not only a great product that got me my first successful batch of pickles, but walked me through the process. I had previously ordered the 3-piece fermenting lid kits (which had very poor directions and a website that gave you very little info as well). These kits turned out to NOT work because of their mistake to NOT highlight filling the top plastic piece with water. OK, I was new, but their directions were POOR. I lost my first three jars of pickles to them (mold beyond salvage) and went on to the "easyfermenter" which was just that, EASY! And it worked! See pics of my end product! Thank you "easyfermenter" for all your help and great customer service. I hope you continue to produce your product, that did every thing it claimed to do, and allow others to have the success that I did (first time around)!

I have been a vegetable fermenter for many years making sauerkraut and half sour pickles. I've owned and used them all: "granny crocks", hi tech German crocks, and making small batches using canning jars with wine/beer fermenter air locks sticking out of the lids. This Easy Fermenter Wide Mouth Lid Kit system is by far the best for small batch (quart, 1/2 gallon or gallon) fermenting!

***Updated review*** I have now been using my Easy Fermenter for several months. I continue to be delighted with the results. My favorite recipes are a cabbage/carrot sauerkraut, and a blend of fermented peppers (some sweet, some hot). I have recommended these fermenting lids to many of my friends because they make fermenting foods so incredibly easy! You will NOT be disappointed. This is my original review: Because of health issues, I needed to start making my own sauerkraut, and other fermented veggies. This seemed like the most fool-proof method so I decided to give it a try. I'm on my second batch now and I'm hooked. Fresh sauerkraut is so much better than store-bought canned! It's really quite delicious! The system is very easy to use. I'm eager to try different veggie combos now that I feel confident that I can make my own. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to try fermenting their own vegetables.

Easiest way to make Sauerkraut. Put the lid on and forget it. I don't worry about mold or bacteria getting in. It comes with a pump to extract the air if you open to check it. It is expensive and difficult to find raw fermented food that is supposed to be high in probiotics. Much more than you can get from supplements. I was surprised at how delicious that fermented sauerkraut I made was. Better than anything I bought in the store. And very economical. The cost of this kit will be saved in 10 fold with making it one time!

i bought two of these--one for me and I sent one to my son as a gift. We are both interested in making sauerkraut & kimchi. I LOVE mine and have successfully made both of these foods using these lids. My son, who lives in a different state, and is not as adventurous as I, and as a result did not use his until my visit this week. I taught him how to make both sauerkraut and Kimchi and we bottled two krauts and one Kimchi. I was surprised that his vacuum pump looked different than mine. I was more surprised when it would not work. Pump as long as you want and the vacuum does not happen. What a disappointment. Very inferior to the great pump that came with my lids. It's past the time I can return them and so my son has three lids that will not work. Big waste of $30.00. Update---I was astounded when the manufacturer immediate contacted me after I wrote the above review. Talk about fat action. They asked me for my son's address and immediately sent him a new pump and an extra cap. Within 24 house of my negative review, Gavin had sent me a copy of the delivery order. I'm impressed.

I began fermenting about a year ago. I started with mason jars, burping them every day, sometimes twice a day. I considered using the standard air locks (the ones that use water), but I noticed they can be messy. One day, I came across these lids. At first, they seemed too good to be true. I never have to burp my jars, and there would be no mess from water bubbling out. I decided to give them a try. I was surprised how easy they are to use, and how well they work. Just as advertised. No mess, no burping, no worries. Here's how it works: 1. Pack your jars 2. Put the lids on and hand tighten 3. Wait That simple. Of course, the kit does come with an air pump, which may be confusing for some people. I'll explain the pump: Using the pump when you first pack your jars is NOT necessary. During the first stages, the gas(CO2) created by the bacteria will push the oxygen out of the jar pretty quickly. When you DO want to use the pump is toward the end of your ferment, (when bacteria have slowed their growth and metabolizing), and you open your jars to do taste tests. If you decide to let your ferment go longer, then you'll use the air pump to pull the oxygen out, since it wont be pushed out as fast as it will in the beginning. Only ONE pump is all that's needed. Overall, theses lids are perfect for all levels of fermenters. I will be buying lots more of these, and would definitely recommend them to everyone.

This product is utterly fantastic and the customer service is the best that I have experienced online thus far. I just now decided that tonight I am going to throw out my three-piece air-locks and the entirely useless plastic cup inserts that I have used previously. I will also add some pictures of my current ferments. I have been using the Easy Fermenter Wide Mouth Lid Kit with the pump for about 2 months now and I am very impressed. For reference and comparison, I have been using quart and half-gallon Ball mason jars with these lids. I have made multiple batches of kimchi, beet kvass, and apple cider vinegar and the process could not have been simpler. After 7 days, the kimchi was ready to go, and after 10 days, the kimchi was perfect. I plan on making water kefir again, as I have not done so with this system, and I anticipate that it will work wonderfully. The construction of the lids is simple and straight-forward, and therefore very easy to clean. All of the pieces can be separated from one another so that you can prevent any mold to form in the seal or under the date dial. I've put the hard plastic in the top rack of the dishwasher, but I am reluctant to expose the rubberized seals to that heat. It has been stated that one does not need to use the pump at the beginning of the ferment, but I do and I will tell you why. Although I am confident that the oxygen will be forced out swiftly, I do want to remove as much as possible from the jar. Using the pump at the beginning also assists in forcing air bubbles to the surface of the brine that may have been captured below the food matter, and the vacuum also forces dissolved gases to expand and escape the water to the surface. The effect is actually pretty cool to witness. After pumping the air for a bit, I usually spin the jar like a washing machine to allow more trapped bubbles to rise up, then I pump again for good measure. There are two issues that I would like to point out, and one suggestion to the manufacturer. One, just last night, the seal on my pump slipped off and is is irreparable. However, after looking into the questions portion of this listing, I discovered that Nourished Essentials will issue a replacement for the pump, as they are not sold separately. They asked me to go to their own website and provide my address, which I did. They responded most rapidly to thank me, inform me that they will process my replacement in 1-2 days, and also throw in another lid for my inconvenience. This is astounding to me and has earned my loyalty. Two, I had a hard time getting the lids off a couple of times, but it was my own fault. I have a habit of over-tightening lids and I did so in this case. I have since held back my Herculean tightening abilities and it has had no detrimental effects on the fermentation. Three, I believe that adding a "Month" ring on the lid would be a benefit. There are some longer ferments (like several months to a year) that I am curious to try, and I would appreciate the addition. This is not even close to a complaint, as it is entirely unnecessary and there are easy alternative solutions. If you are interested in fermenting, do not hesitate in your decision to buy this system. This system is progress and simplicity in a compact package, and I mean that literally. If you need one more incentive, these guys wasted all of 2 cubic inches MAYBE in their shipping container, which made me happy before I even had a chance to use the lids. I hope that more companies will function even half as efficiently as these guys do.

I ordered a set of three of these with the pump and received it promptly. Being right around St. Patrick's Day, cabbage was on sale so I immediately started fermenting some to make sauerkraut. I have made sauerkraut for years in mason jars, but never had lids like these. In the past it was a mess and a few times the sauerkraut molded and was not usable. Plus it took a very long time for the sauerkraut to ferment and it never seemed to be very sour. I set the date on the lids and after 15 days I decided to open one and see how it tasted. I was happily surprised to find that it was very sour and absolutely perfect. I used one 1/2 gallon jar right away for dinner and then canned the remaining two half gallons in quart jars for the pantry. Seeing as this turned out so well, I right away ordered a set of four more lids and when I received them started a second batch of sauerkraut. It should be ready by now to can and I should be set for a while. Now I'm looking forward to summer so I can ferment some dill pickles and other vegetables from my garden. A great product and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in fermenting vegetables. This is going to open a whole new world for my family, as I was never comfortable fermenting vegetables in a crock.

While I love the convenience of these ball jar wide mouth venting lids over the other options available for fermenting foods, one of my three lids failed after only one use. I can clearly see light through the middle of the vent valve, which means it’s completely useless because it is unable to keep oxygen from entering my fermentation. I was excited after my first batch of kimchi came out perfect, so I quickly prepared another. I carefully hand washed my Easy Fermenter lids and put them on my jars of prepared ingredients. I didn’t notice any issues with any of the lids until day 5 of my fermentation. Clearly, the silicone vent gasket must have been poorly manufactured, because the very center was missing, and I honestly don’t know where it went. It could be inside the jar, but more likely it “popped” upward and landed somewhere on my kitchen counter. The piece that is missing is so small that I’ll likely never find it. I ordered 4 more lids, with the hope that the next order will be much better quality. I’ll update this review after I receive and use those. Update 11-2-17: I’ve raised my rating to 5 stars. Clearly the lid I got in my first order was a dud. I’ve had no issues since with the replacement lids and I’ve made batch after batch of delicious organic kimchi! This product is the simplest to use, clean, and “set and forget”. Highly recommended. Regards, Stereoman

Love these. So simple to use. No heavy crock to clean or giant weights to sterilize. My first three jars are almost ready and so far seem good....edit....best I ever made. Getting more cabbage today. So easy...I'm making some for a surprise for a friend and lettng her keep the lid. Making some for my daughter in law and of course more for me....getting my probiotics in line to restore my health and keep me that way....DELICIOUS AND EASY!!!! What more could you ask? I gave a lid and jar to my brother recentlyso he can give it a try...I know he’ll love it!
