On occasion we paid a shredding service. By the second box, we were ahead on savings. Here is what we did:- + SET SHREDDER TOP UP ON A LARGER BIN. Of course the top mounts on the container included, but we set up the top across the top of a bin lined with a 55-gallon bag. Filled 8 of these in one evening.... each holding at least one packed file box of paper. The shredder has an extender handle that can be pulled out to accommodate a slightly larger container opening. + USE SHREDDER OIL. It's VERY easy to apply on this shredder. Just drag the oil bottle across the opening to pour some in periodically, and run the shredder backwards on eject mode for a few seconds, and it's ready for more. The oil is not that expensive and I think it kept it running smoothly for the duration. + NOTICE THE COOL DOWN PERIODS. Got so we could tell when it needed a break (and I did as well anyway, to sort the next pile). It will heat up if it's used continuously, and does need periodic short breaks to recover. + STAPLES WERE FINE. Pulled about 8 sheets off at a time from stapled packets. Two pages stapled together, for example, no issue whatsoever. + AVOIDED ADHESIVES. I didn't want to get adhesive on the blades so ripped off sections of pages that contained cello or packing tape. Really even put relatively few sticky notes through... The places to insert CDs and credit cards are marked clearly. Really, and ESPECIALLY for the price, I can't say enough about this it. AmazonBasic-ally all-around solid product. Recommended.

Great for price. I shredded a box full of papaers last night and 2 credit cards. Worked great. No jams, didn't overheat. A little loud but doesn't bother me. It struggled with 5sheets. I didnt want to push it. 3 pages is good, goes right through. Recommend for simple home use of junk mail and the like.

I have to agree with the majority of reviews on this one. It is a great little cross-cut shredder with sufficient indicator lights and smart safety features. The design and build quality is very good. To have it priced at about $29 makes it an exceptional value in my mind. As far as noise output when shredding, I was pleasantly surprised as I found it to be a bit quieter and less annoying than previous home shredders I have used. You should browse through the instruction manual to understand how the safety features operate and the typical design limitations such as the 8-sheet max, avoid adhesives and plastics (credit cards in the designated slot are OK), etc. Also don't forget to lubricate once in awhile as the instruction manual recommends. I use just a teaspoon (if that) of cooking oil spread across one of my "to be shredded" documents (financial junk mail for instance) and feed it to my shredder once a month. No need to buy those expensive lubricating sheets. : )

The best shredder I have gotten ever .it does everything it says it will do I havent tried a CD yet but. Sure it will. Do it .It's very quiet and doesn't over heat. Its worth EVERY penny I doubt I will ever need another one. It very nice and seems very well made .My old I had for 20 yrs I've just misplaced it but this one is even better and under 30.00. Would deffantly recommend it to someone wanting a good shredder plus it's not messy like those cross cut ones they are so messy and dusty this one no paper dust clean cuts strips !!!

I've crunched through about 500 CD's/DVD's and several hundred papers and it is still working like it did on day one. If you get to aggressive or run it too fast for too long it will shut itself off for 8-10 minutes until it completely cools down. So be aware that if it suddenly stops and appears to be broken, feel the top to the left of the main switch. This area will be very hot, but not so much that it burns your hand. Turn it to off (the middle position) and let it sit for awhile. It's a safety feature, and it works very well, just be aware that it is not broken. The trash can it comes with fills up quick and could be larger, but I can't knock the shredder, especially since the right side as you are looking down on it expands so you can put it on a larger trash can such as a rectangular kitchen trash can.

Amazon should call Shredder Protective Services on me because I was very mean to this machine and it did not let me down. I shredded 3 months of daily newspapers to make shred for boxes. I separated each section but once folded, was the thickness of 8 pages. I had this thing going for an hour straight when I did overheat. I unplugged it and let it rest and then started it back up to finish...which it did. I was careful to feed the paper in correctly but there were times when it became a crumpled mess as it fed through....only once or twice did it stop. Yet a quick push of the feed button and it finished. This is a phenomenal machine. Well worth every cent. It's small too which although is annoying when you're feeding it 6000 pages at once, but it doesn't take up a lot of room which is nice.

I absolutely love the fact that I am able to shred multiple documents at once, at a quick-pace, which was a huge selling point for me, and the ability to do so, without removing staples, is even more convenient! While I have not tried the maximum of 8-sheets at once, it has been able to successfully shred up to six documents, at once, with ease, and incredibly fast. I also value the ability of having both an auto-start option, as well as manual reverse, to clear out any possible jams. In the past, I have had shredders that cost 2-3 times the cost of this one, and they didn’t even compare to the level of quality that this offers. They actually burnt out, very quickly, as I have a high-amount of paperwork that needs to be shredded, continuously, throughout my work-week. While this paper shredder is able to accommodate the destruction of paper, and card stock, on a 2-minute continuous run-time, I also appreciate the ability to be able to effectively shred, and demolish, both credit cards, store cards I no longer use, and even CDs! In addition, I am also extremely impressed by the size of this paper shredder, as it’s not too large, and fits absolutely perfectly within my printer-station, cart, among both my inkjet, and laser printers. Overall, I am thoroughly happy, pleased with my purchase, and also have the pleasure of being able to rely on the AmazonBasics 1-year limited warranty, should any issues arise. However, so far, I have had absolutely no issues whatsoever when using this product. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a perfectly sized, sturdy, yet lightweight paper shredder for both home, and office, use. Also, for the price, this compares to even the higher dollar competitor paper shredders, and I feel this is such a fantastic deal!

My old one died and I wasn't looking to spend a bunch of money, and I was actually on my way to purchase a manual crank one for $12 when I saw this one for just $7 more! LOVE IT! It can do 8 pages at once, and it has a button you can push if it's starting to get clogged up. Also, if you want to put it directly in the trash, instead of transferring it from the trash bin it comes with, you can remove the top and stretch it out to fit a waste recepticle of your choice. However, I use mine to make the PERFECT fire starter for my wood burning stove insert, in order to heat the chimney up quick so the fire doesn't smoke back into the house. I lay fatwood on top of the strips of paper and it starts them up and they in turn start the kindling up, which starts the pine up, which once it's glowing, I can toss my hard wood on top of. Fire starting has never been easier.

So I just got this today and will edit my review if necessary. With that being said, I had a built up pile of items to shred, probably around 200 all together, and I shredded them all today with one break to let it cool down. Ran a sharpening/lubricating sheet through afterwards so we will see how it performs going forward but based off of right now, I absolutely love this. It shreds flawlessly. Super quick and shreds cards without hesitation. Haven’t tried the CD part out yet. Definitely a win for Amazon Basics.

I already had this one and thought it had quit working, so I ordered another just like it, because I liked my old one so well, but it turned out I didn't remember I had unplugged my old one, so it still works fine and now I have two of them. Very easy to use and to empty. Others I've had at work, that had pull out waste drawers, would get so full you couldn't pull the waste drawer open and even when you could they made an awful mess on the floor, but with this one you just lift the head off and pull out a waste bag you insert in the trash bin, and throw it away, then put in a new bag in and pop the head back on, with no struggle and no mess, and this one costs less then the others do. Great product!!!
