The best in its category! My friend that works in the movies industry recommended it and I'm glad I listened. I use it for my hobby and for recording my kids, lectures, nature sounds, etc. The quality of the sound recorded with its mics is fantastic, it is capable of producing movie like sounds like floor creeks, doors shutting, people steps. It is full and rich of features. It really is a compact recording studio. Visit YouTube and you will find tons of good reviews and excellent tutorials so you are not intimidated by its configuration options.

I love this recorder. It has so many great features and is completely capable of producing professional quality audio in the right hands. It is a powerful little machine. Paired with some rechargeable AA batteries and you are set for some awesome recording! Some cool key features are: You can use this an an audio interface for your computer You can use it as a USB microphone for your computer You can use it as a multi-track recorder What a cool piece of equipment! I use it all the time and love it. Zoom is a great brand. If you do not need a full sized microphone jack, the H2N is also a great option that in some ways is even better than this unit, depending on your applications.

My friends and I started getting into making youtube videos so I started buying gear I needed peice by peice. The one thing we noticed that put a damper on producing great quality videos was lack of amazing audio. So I did my research, read many articles that told me I needed a boom mic......that is true but $500+ for me is out of the question for now so I checked out cheaper options and i stumbled across some youtube videos that recommend this sound recorder, so I got one and was blown away at how amazing it is, I love this thing! Got an attachment for my camera and it captures audio so crisp and clear and is easy to use (when in doubt if you can't figure something out just youtube it). Another reason I got this was the support of XLR ports on it, so one day when I do get my boom mic I can plug it right in and capture audio not only from that mic but from the built in stereo mics on the unit itself. So do your research and see if this is what you are looking for, I am very glad I bought it.

I use this for record/playback of vocals during practice sessions, and it works really well for that purpose. The sound comes through really clearly, and most background noise is eliminated with the high-pass filter. The pros were major, and the cons were trivial. Would buy again. Pros: - Clarity of the on-board mics - Can plug in your own mic, and it supplies phantom power - Learning curve is low - Karaoke mode so you can sing along to a background track Cons: - Only records 35 seconds of data without an SD card, so you'll need to buy one - it's got a mini (I think) rather than a micro USB, so you can't use the USB cord you use with your phone. - Need to buy rechargeable batteries if you intend to use it without being tethered to a computer.

I've always wanted to be able to record my guitars, acoustic and electric, and had no idea how it could be done, or what I would need. Did lots of research on the Internet and found a site that recommended the Zoom H4N Pro 2016. I've only had this less than a week now, and am slowly learning all it's functions and capabilities. There are many sound recorders out there and my research told me that the Zoom was a lot easier to learn than most of the others. It does take a little bit of time to be able to use this, but the results are amazing as far as I'm concerned. The build quality of this machine, and the sound quality it produces far surpasses what I had hoped for. Battery life is not that great, but I hear the same thing about the other brands of recorders. So I bought the Zoom AD-14A/D power adapter. I think this is a good idea, especially while learning to use it. It gives me all the time I need to explore without fear of draining multiple sets of batteries. You'll also need an SD card in order to use it. I ordered the SanDisk 32GB Ultra Class 10 SDHC UHS-I card which will hold hundreds of hours of recordings. I am Very Happy with this product, and having a blast using it!

a friend of mine recommended the older version. I got the new one. It's sound is clearer than other recording alternatives and although it is the smaller version of the 3 zooms, it has a lot of professional features and it's quality can't be beaten easily. One thing! ... you don't have to BUY the sponge for the mics, I managed to make mine with a new sponge at home and carved it with a knife. It works surprisingly good and it protects the crossed mics. It works with 2 AA batteries (included) that may work for... 4 hours straight. So, if you are working on a studio, consider buying the ac adapter, and if you are working on field, consider rechargeable batteries

What can I say, it's a Zoom! I actually used an H4N to record the audio for a scene in a Hollywood movie. I ran my boom mic (which was mounted on a pole) to my Zoom H4N with standard XLR cable, and the final product was good enough to be used in a theater debuted movie. The price is beyond unbelievable! I have used recorders on set that cost thousands of dollars, and the sound quality was no better than that of the Zoom H4N. It's an amazing product that every audiophile should own!

The audio from this is outstanding. Paired with a noise cancelling headphones the audio sounds better than the actual sound. Crisp and clean. It's sound with hd. I use this to record sound effects in the outdoors and it does a great job. I did have an issue where one of the buttons failed. I email Zoom got prompt respons and in not time a new was shipped to me at no extra cost. This was after the defective unit was returned. Fantastic product and customer support.

Great recorder. Plenty of options and features. Stereo 4 channel multi track. Records in mono also. It feels like a professional piece. Metal and rubberized texture. Solid construction. Good button press. Does take longer to boot up and turn off. Audio recording is just as good as the H1N or DR05 You can't really tell playing it back on the computer. If you analyze it on a program I'm sure that's where you can see the difference. This just has more options and XLR hookups. Has a little bit of weight and is bigger than most but not uncomfortable to hold. Good battery life I got past 6 hours. It also has a DC input for wall power use. Easy to use and records great. It's a versatile recorder. You can hook it up to your computer camera or any device and you can also hook up other external microphones.

I bought this in 2011. This is an amazing portable recorder, even to this day (They released a new version this year in 2016). It is not just for musicians, but also sought after by filmmakers. The whole look of it is just beautiful and professional. Even the built-in mics not only look cool, but it picks up audio really nicely. However, what attracted me the most was having two XLR inputs on this handheld device that provides 48v phantom power using two AA batteries (I use Eneloops because they're the best) I love that they made the navigation a scroll wheel and you can just push in to enter; I'm so glad they didn't make the enter a separate button because it really makes navigating smooth. Not only is it just a handheld field recorder, but you can also connect to it to the computer using mini-USB; then it becomes a USB audio interface and I'm able to record audio directly using my favorite recorder like Adobe Audition and even Skype. It even has built-in effects like reverb that you can add real-time. This is just an absolutely beautiful well-designed work of art product. This is definitely in the legendary category.
