It's plastic, but not cheap. The tilt and pan both are smooth and have generous adjustment. The quick release plate mechanism is easy to use and has minimal play. The handle is sturdy and can be inserted for left-hand or right-hand use. For a lightweight rig, like a mirrorless camera, it's a good pairing. I have used on both a tripod or monopod. For the price, it's a great, lightweight addition to my social media bag.

I shoot professionally for our company internationalpress.org and cover many events. When covering trade and consumer shows I have to take lots of heavy gear and lately have stopped because of the weight. I have a Manfrotto Tripod with a very heavy head and it doesn't allow me to get those nice smooth pans and tilts. So I tried this one and for the cost, I had nothing to lose. To my surprise and from reading the reviews about it being plastic, I found it well made and much lighter than the others I have. On the bottom you have the 1/8" screw mount and you can take that insert out for the larger 1/4" tripod thread. Once mounted with my Nikon D7200 I found it very responsive and very smooth and liked the easy adjustments on the tilt and pan. Took it outdoors to test it and it worked perfectly. Lighter weight, low cost, good build make this head a keeper. I have over 300 videos on YouTube with millions of views and I would recommend this to any novice or pro. For the price, I have not seen anything else that has the smoothness of motion that this head has when panning. It has a nice drag/resistance when panning which is designed to help you get a steady, smooth motion pan. It's often said that "you get what you pay for", however, in this case you're actually getting more. I've used other heads that were a little more expensive than this one, however, though they claimed to be a Fluid Head, when panning there was a stutter verses a smooth pan. Please note that this is NOT a $300 head and so it will not act as one, however, for less than $100 I have yet to find a better head.

Great product for the price. I use the Fluid Drag Pan Head to film outdoor football games. I used it all season without any problems. I mated the Fluid Drag Head to an Bosch BT160 Contractor Tripod. $36 Head + $40 Tripod + $23 adapter (TRIPODAPTER made by Little-Enterprises)= $99 for a serious heavy duty video tripod !!

Short version: It's worth more than you are paying for it. Four cups of coffee will last you a few days but this should last you for a few years or occasional use. Generally, I'm a "you get what you pay for" kind of guy. That does not stop me from buying inexpensive stuff on the off chance that I will be surprised, I like to be surprised, and this time I was. Long version: The box says it's professional photographic equipment and I think that is a stretch. It's not pro-quality equipment but, for your first head, it's a really good one. It's made from plastic, but it's not flimsy cheap plastic you might expect. It's pretty sturdy. While I won't call it professional I will recommend it to anyone as a starter head. What I liked. 1. Price. This will hold up nicely against some competitors that are twice the price. 2. Functionality. No frills but it does a good job of panning and tilting and that is what it needs to do. 3. Gridlines. A nice feature that you don't normally find on an inexpensive item. 4. Weight. It's not too heavy to pack around. What I expected. 1. I expected that during tilt operation if you have a heavier rig the weight of the rig would accelerate the tilt on its own. It did exactly as I expected and while its an annoyance I can't fault it because that really is a function of a much higher-end product. 2. Plastic. It is plastic but better quality than I expected. What I did not expect. 1. Gridlines for panning and tilting. An excellent feature for making panoramics or time-lapses. 2. Build quality. It is a plastic build but it's a good build for plastic. Nitpicking 1. I would have liked to have an Arca swiss mounting plate mainly because all my other stuff is Arca. 2. The tension knob for the panning function was too tight and dented my fingers. Fortunately, once it's set I don't really mess with it so it's not a big deal for me. 3. Have to hold the tilt handle securely because it will "take off" on you at about 45 degrees if you are just lifting from the bottom. Now I'm really being picky. Are you still reading this? I am a Realtor and i shoot and film my own videos with a Canon 70D. I use this head on different tripods as well as my slider. Its fantastic. The only problem I have with it is when I am on my slider. The adjustment for keeping it flat moves/loosens. So you MUST Keep an eye on that or your videos will be un-level.

I love that this head fits on my Neewer tripod. It's the perfect combo now of light weight and portable. This head is S-M-O-O-T-H. I love the variable tension and the fact that my camera video is like butter now.

For the price this head is excellent - it's very well built and pretty solid feeling, even more so than some of the more expensive fluid heads I own. I've used some other ones that are a bit jolty due to the quality, making it possible to get okay shots but not great ones. I didn't experience this with this head, it both pans and tilts incredibly smoothly, much more so than I would have expected at this price point. The only thing that isn't entirely smooth is the mounting plate, it can be a little difficult to get back onto the tripod but it's not a big deal. I do appreciate that the mounting plate's screw has a little flap to help you attach it to the camera, instead of having to use a screw driver. It also has a cork covering to protect your camera, which is a very nice touch as well. Overall a professional photographer will probably want something more solid, but this is a very good option for beginners.

The cheap plastics make me question the longevity, but ive been using it for a couple of days and have felt like it was worth the money. This is a perfect intro to get a job done, but I'll be upgrading in a year or so.
