Got it as a gift for a friend. The piece has a nice weight to it, good feel and finish. Everything seemed to be functioning well, however I suspect it will be used for decoration more than function. The case that accompanies the compass is also great. Well made, very classy.

Low price, Good Quality, Engravable

I was expecting it to be cheap because the item was so inexpensive. It was actually pretty heavy and of good quality. I bought this as a Valentine's gift for my husband and, when I took it to the local engraver, they thought it was a legitimate antique. I was so impressed with the final results for my husband's gift that I showed it off to all my coworkers and sisters. They too we're shocked about the price! At the end of the day when I gave it to my husband, he grinned so big! He loves old fashioned, practical things. This fit him so perfectly. I just wanted to thank the makers for putting forth such standup quality. Your good work has given us the ability to have a lovely family heirloom. :)

Beautiful and works well.

I was hoping it would look as cool and retro as the photo. Was not disappointed. It is beautiful and works well. Need to clean leather case and treat with saddle soap but other than that, very nice! Sundial flips out of the way like a pocket watch lid giving you a full unobstructed view of compass.

I'm building an explorers kit for the children to get them outside and off the video games lol and this compass is a perfect addition to the kit. It is a beautifully crafted functional work of art which has extremely motivated the kids to get outside and play. Teaching them compass navigation and how to properly use the sundial has been a joy. This is not a toy and is a fairly heavy piece of brass. The item was received on time and packaged well. I would highly recommend this and would purchase again.

It's neat. The north arrow is slightly out of line with the south arrow so have to have it point one notch to the right of north to get accurate time.

Compass came quickly and I was surprised and extremely pleased with it. If I didn’t know better I’d swear it was a 100 yrs old! My father loved it and I’d definitely buy it again perhaps for myself 😊

A beautiful, rugged, very well made by hand, thick solid brass Sundial/Compass that works perfectly

This is a beautiful, rugged, very well made, beautiful, hand made solid, heavy brass, Compass/sundial built like a pocket watch. It works really well. Both the sun dial and the compass work well. This beautiful piece of equipment arrived in perfect shape and was very well packed. Its leather case is very well made out of good strong leather. The little company that makes these has only five people working there. You can tell they are real artists in metal. Each part is hand made out of heavy, durable, brass, and each part is very well made. Here is how it works: 1. Lay this Sundial/Compass on a flat place in the sunshine. I use an outside picnic table to lay it on. 2. Push the button that looks like a watch winder. The spring loaded top will pop open. 3. Turn the Sundial/Compass until the compass needle is pointing to the North mark on the inside of the Sundial/Compass 4, Shut the top of the Sundial/Compass gently so as not to turn it and change the North setting. 5. Now very gently pull up the Sundial arm until it is pointing straight up. (Or you can pull the sun dial arm up before you open the top) 6. Look for the shadow of the Sundial arm on the face of the Sundial. The number that the shadow sets on is the time of day. For example, if the shadow of the sundial arm in covering the number II (Roman numeral for 2) on the face of the Sundial, it is two O'clock PM. (It doesn't work at night, no sun you know) In case you don't know the Roman numerals I is one, II is two, III is three, IV is four, V is five, VI is six, VII is seven, VIII is eight, IX is nine, X is ten, XI is eleven, and XII is twelve. A small extra gift was put in the with the Compass and a nice note from it maker thanking you for buying his work and telling you about the little company. This item is beautiful and perfect for display because it looks old, or, because it is so well made and rugged it can be for use on hikes, camping, metal detecting, etc. I recommend this item highly.
