Makes a great beginner Ukulele
My 10 yr old daughter received this for Christmas and absolutely loves it. She started learning how to play immediately and has a friend that is teaching her. She can already play a few songs in just the month since she got it. It's small & lightweight so she can easily carry it to school along with her lunch box & other stuff. After the first 2 days of tuning it constantly, it finally started to stay tuned (this is expected for a new ukulele). The case that comes with it is very high quality, and she loves the color of her ukulele. I think it is slightly darker in person than in the stock picture for this listing, but still nice. My daughter is tall for her age with long arms (around 5ft tall) so that is why we got her the concert size. It fits me perfectly too & I am 5'5". The tuning screws in the back are covered which is ideal since it keeps debris from getting stuck in the screws/gears. This ukulele has a nice sound, does not sound canny or like a toy, but sounds like a decent ukulele. Obviously you can get a much more professional instrument that will sound beautiful, but for the price this makes for a great introductory instrument and then after you know that you really enjoy playing and it is something you definitely want to take up, you can invest in a more expensive ukulele. That's my opinion. I would definitely recommend this for a beginner looking for an affordable but nice ukulele.

Why Not ?
Love this ukulele ! I’m always looking for ukuleles that are a little unique and the design (butterfly) on this one really caught my eye. After reading the positive reviews, I knew this one would be the one to keep my other 6 ukuleles company. It’s well made for an inexpensive instrument such as this and just took minutes to get it tuned. After playing it for several days, it just takes some minor adjustment when starting to play, and the frets are nice and smooth - no sharp edges. I don’t know what kind of strings this has, but I don’t think they are Aquila as there was no hang tag like the ones that came on my other ukes. These sound pretty good, - they have their own distinctive sound. The C string is a bit “plunky” when played alone, but blends in when playing chords. Mine came with a really nice case and for the price, I couldn’t be happier ! Oh, and there is a block on the inside bottom, in case you would want to add a button for a strap.

Fantastic packaging
This uke is lovely. I was worried about ordering if from Amazon, due to concerns that it might be damaged in shipping. The box arrived open, quite beaten up, with several holes and dents. But the uke was safely inside its case, in a strong, uke-shaped interior box that was untouched. It was perfect! I'm enjoying my new instrument very much.

Wow!
This ukulele is beautiful! What a crazy great deal. The sound is lovely and I'm not having any problems with its staying in tune. As a classical guitarist of 50+ years, the tenor size is perfect for me. (Retraining that muscle memory.) it's just so easy to pick up and play, I'm having to give myself periodic times out or I'll never get my artwork done. Love it!

Big man, little ukulele: perfect fit
I bought this for my husband as a Christmas present. I was afraid that a soprano ukulele would be too small since he is a big man with big hands. He assured me that any size ukulele would be fine, citing the video of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". *YouTube that real quick* Okay, point taken. Anyways, this concert sized ukulele fits him very nicely and he is able to play all the cords necessary for his new obsession. It gets out of tune pretty quickly, but he has only been playing it for a few days, so he is still breaking in the strings. He was able to find a tuner app and that has worked pretty well. The gig bag is nicer than I expected and will protect it enough to take it back and forth to the beach. I'm not sure how much ukuleles are supposed to resonate, but this one doesn't resonate very much. It is actually kind of quiet, as far as musical instruments go, but that doesn't bother either of us. He can play it on the couch next to me while I watch TV and I'm able to tune it out. Overall, my husband is happy with it, so I am happy with it.

Great $48 ukulele
Yes, it really is a great ukulele. The problem is it's worth $48. I have the spruce tattoo version and it's good for the money. Actually it has good projection. It is no way equal to any brand name ukes sold in music stores. The mahogany top version is muddy. I want to update my review to 5 stars. The uke has settled in after playing for a couple months and it is a great ukulele. It plays like a uke costing twice as much. Makanu may be the best deal you will ever find .

Great Value
I am a long-time guitar player and have taught guitar for many years. It is from that perspective I write this review. Beautiful construction - I was very impressed with how clean the construction was. The pictures provided by the manufacturer are accurate. The wood, black bindings, and finish looks flawless overall. If you look real close you can see some minor imperfections. I was also impressed that it had a slightly rounded back. The biggest "imperfection" was the logo and emblem on the headstock. The ridges of from CNC machine are very evident. The strings were cleanly put on. Previous reviewers were negative about the instruments ability to stay in tune. My experience with any nylon string instrument is that it takes a number of days of consistent tuning and stretching for the instrument to maintain it's tuning. Out of the box, I had to tune to re-tune a number of times before it stabilized. The most negative thing is intonation. After getting open strings perfectly tuned (with a tuner) I had to make minor adjustments (make a little sharp or flat) to a few of the strings to make the chords sound consistent. For me, having played guitar for 30 years, this is no big deal. Beginners might get frustrated with how chords don't sound quite right even though the strings are tuned "perfectly." Adding a compensated bridge saddle might help this. The sound is acceptable. This is the first Ukulele I have ever played. I imagine if I tried out an expensive crafted instrument, it would spoil it for me. I assume the stock strings are not the greatest. Changing the strings would probably improve things. PROS: - Beautiful construction - gig bag is provided. - Sealed tuners - Decent sound CONS: - No additional materials were provided. Other ukuleles in this price range have tuners and methods. This didn't have of that. - Intonation Finally, I have only had the instrument a few days and I'm having a good time with it. Time will tell if this instrument can take reasonable amount of abuse. So far I would say for $45 (USD) it is a great value.

Beautiful and excellent quality uke!
I love this ukulele and can't wait to learn how to play it! I've already tuned it via free tuning apps on my phone, plus I have a Snark tuner I bought for my electric guitar and am going to see if that works with the ukulele too. Excellent quality and sound! It's beautiful and I love the soft cushioned case with two carrying options; a handle and a strap. Easy to carry! Thank you!!
