Good product, might need a little adjustment

I had some initial problems with my Switchmate, the installation and programming was easy but the device didn't consistently turn my switch on or off (even with the included adapter). I contacted their tech support via email and received detailed instructions on how to adjust the physical rocker switch (turned out it was set too deeply into the wall). Once adjusted everything works find now. Kudos to their support staff, they responded to my emails within minutes.

Better than timer

Works really well with rocker switch. Very easy installation. Just make sure the switchmate and switch are both on ON position when you put the switchmate over the switch. The magnet is enough to hold the switchmate over the switch during its operation to turn on and off the switch. App is very user friendly. Will buy more.

Great for my outdoor house lights!

I know these have mixed reviews, but I love mine. I bought one at Target months ago, but they didn't carry them anymore. I was happy to find one on Amazon. I use them on my switches for my outdoor lights on my house. I love having them timed to turn off and on so I don't have to remember to do it every day. It's also great for when we are vacationing. I did have to fiddle with it a bit to get it just right on the main switch, but once I did, it works great.

EXACTLY WHAT I EXPECTED/WANTED

EXACTLY WHAT I EXPECTED/WANTED... I simply wanted a timer for my outdoor coach lights and it works just as stated!!! Beyond pleased!!! Put this on a FOUR switch light to operate only one light and does just what I wanted!!! After I found it worked I added a second for the two switch to timer the other outdoor lights.

Cheap and easy way to place lights on a timer--works with rocker switches and useful phone app

I wanted to figure out a way to easily have my outdoor garage lights turn on at night and turn off on a timer. I actually contacted an electrician who had done some work for me previously. He recommended a photocell; however, I did not want my lights to be on all night. I also didn't want to have to manually turn the lights on or off, so basically for the longest time my house was the dark one at night. I stumbled upon this item on Amazon and noticed that it seems to be hit or miss with the reviews. Well, for me it's a definite hit. It works with my rocker switches and can be set by a timer using a phone app. Pretty slick. I have it set in my garage on a two switch plate. I like that it's incredibly easy to install and does not impede access to the other rocker switch. Of note it's interesting but I tried it on a single plate switch in my kitchen out of the box and it correctly turned the switch on and off as is. I then tested it on the switch in the garage (beside the desired switch) that does the indoor light so it would be easy to tell if it worked, and it also worked fine as is; however, on the switch I actually wanted to use, it would only halfway move the rocker switch, so the lights would not come on. I then installed the separate included adapter piece and everything finally worked great. It's funny but I then tried the switch with the adapter on the previous light and it didn't work, so it is a bit finicky in that regards. However this is a minor detail because it's all set up and I don't need to mess with it again until it's time to change the batteries. Best $20 I've spent in awhile--really happy to have such a cheap and easy solution to this lighting issue.

Works as promised!

Sometimes I am truly amazed at how lazy and stupid most people are - hence, some of the negative reviews of this product. Suffice to say, it works EXACTLY as advertised. I downloaded the app, installed it over a switch, programmed the app for daily times to turn on and off, and that was the end of it. On occasions, I turn it on at different times with the app, but the daily schedule remains exactly as programmed, now for 3 months (it is for one light in the exterior that is not on our exterior light timer. Some of the negative reviews here are truly fascinating, in an anthropological sense, or a way to feel depressed about one's fellow human. I am mean not just some of the reviews for this product. I mean most of the things I have bought. In conclusion - product WORKS AS ADVERTISED IS WELL MADE HAS GIVEN ME ZERO ISSUES I WOULD BUY AGAIN Cheers

It's a GENIUS idea and Excellent product. I bought 2 of these rocker switch models. It works very well over a dual light switch or a triple light switch where it will stay mounted and turns on and off at the set times. The only issue I have is placing it over a single light switch. That's right, over a single light switch it will not stay mounted and it will not turn on at all. When it turn on, the switch will come OFF, I kid you not. It will come OFF. Basically it is completely non functional over a single light switch. I think Switchmate's engineering team needs to go back and redesign the product for the single light switch application. Just some thought, if you're planning to use this on a single light switch. With that said, I was somewhat disappointed where I wasn't able to use this on a single light switch, however, my other light switches were a triple or dual light switch and that's where I end up using it. Even with that disappointment, I still gave it 5 stars.

I wanted to take a star off but could not

The product shipped with out of date firmware and dead batteries suggesting it was old shelf stock. I wanted to take a star off for that but I just can't because this thing is so darn nice and does exactly what I need. The install couldn't be easier. The battery compartment was well designed and easy to remove the cover without tools and reinstall. Then you just place it on top of the switch. It took me longer to put in my apple passwords to download the software than to actually set it up. The software is intuitive and well designed and very easy to use. It communicates clearly with you when there is a problem (out of range and low battery were two warnings I got). To be able to add dusk to dawn control to a light without a neutral wire, this was pretty easy and reasonably priced. You should test the switch from the app before walking away. I have a decora faceplate on my switch without screws. While the magnets were powerful enough to hold it through the faceplate, the faceplate was too thick and the nubs that activate the switch could not reach. Looking at the device I realized it was designed to securely fit around the square switch body. My faceplate made that flush so there was nothing protruding. The solution was to remove the finish faceplate leaving the mounting half of the faceplate attached to the switch. Then everything worked perfectly. The switchmate is so big, it just covers the ugly mounting bracket. That brings up another concern. This thing is not thin or small. It is big and bulky and could look pretty odd sitting on a wall even though it's surface is attractively designed. Fortunately for me, it is hidden behind blinds. So while I have several "flaws" with this device, it did exactly what I wanted for a reasonable price so it is a five star item to me.

it works perfect.

I just use it as a timer for lights. Read the set up and do as they say, maybe move the switch a little to set proper and perfect. So far all is good.
