Bought to keep jealous boar goat from butting me when I leave the yard. All I have to do is buzz it and the goats leave me alone. I also carry it when in town or cities and feel safer. I also am licensed and carry a 38. I have law enforcement background... reminder if you carry a defense weapon...Set your mind to be prepared to use the defense instrument in that small window of time & dont wait around to see if the perp will change their mind or you will loose that opportunity snd the weapon/defense instrument will be used on you.

Extremely potent and effective. I am 6'3" 230 lbs and it put me on the ground in half a second. I had my fiancee test this on me 4 different times with four different scenarios. One with a T-shirt on, 1/2 sec. On the ribs. One with me grabbing it on the sides to simulate someone trying to take it from you. One with a sweater over top of a T-shirt. Amd finally one with three layers on , T-shirt, sweater, and a jacket on. All 4 times I was shocked. Instantaneously i was bruised by the shock to the skin sites. Doesn't matter what they wear or how big they are. No one wants to mess with the person holding this device. Its so good im going to buy a second one for me. Below are pictures of the three layers it went through.

I already owned one I still swear by. I bought this, my second, because I lost the original charge cord. So now, with two to compare, I'll review. Does the Viper work? Hell, yeah. Accidentally, I turned the first one on my hand and thought I'd been hit by lightning. Agonizing pain--and that was just from a couple of seconds. Used against a foe for the recommended 6-8 seconds, he's not going anywhere but down for the time you need to boogie off Does it hold its charge? I hadn't tested the first one for a couple of months when the new one arrived--and it still packed a charge. A different brand I had before looked awesome. But the power switch was the flip sort, not a slider like the Viper. And anything could trigger that one, leaving you powerless in a crunch. With the Viper there's no need to worry...unless you used the flashlight and forgot turn it off.

I ordered one of these about a year ago; liked it so much I ordered another! I walk for my health around 2-3 miles a day, and there are sometimes loose/stray dogs roaming around--no, don't live in the country but in a nice neighborhood, but some folks simply let their animals loose instead of walking them with a leash. For my own protection I had been carrying a smaller version of the VTS-989, and actually used it once against a bulldog; he didn't get close enough for to get zapped but the noise alone kept him at bay until he gave up! That's when I "upgraded" to the VTS-989 because it seemed a more robust unit, and I am happy with it. The VTS-989 is everything they say it is and I am well-satisfied with it--in fact I purchased a third unit so as to keep one in the garage, one in the house and one in my car! One thing, be sure to keep track of when you last charged your device, because the LED light will still operate even when the battery has discharged to the extent it can no longer power the hi-voltage circuitry; I think once a month charging is sufficient.

This paid for itself. I decided to walk to a nearby bar at 1:30am. This creepy guy started following me. I took a couple odd turns and he followed me each time. I turned around and buzzed the tazer he took right off.

I'm a muscular 270lb black belt and I can take serious pain and keep going. Unfortunately, I accidentally tested it on my self when I swung my arms and I was talking and I shocked my other hand. This was some of the worst pain I have ever experienced...ever! I've hd kidney stones that hurt less. I've been shocked by 220v and it wasn't even close. I could not believe how hard it shocked me. It went threw one arm and my chest and out the other. It hurt, totally incapacited me, and fkn hurt for 15 min after. I can't fully explain how bad it hurt. I never I life want to experience that shock again. I highly recommend this one!!!!

I like that I can have a way to protect myself without the worry of actually killing someone. Very cool product. Makes me feel safer.

This thing will put a 250 pound man down in about two seconds flat. Trust me because I tried it on myself. If the sound alone doesn't deter a criminal thepunch it packs certainly will. For the money well well well worth the purchase.

i carry this everywhere, legally, in my state. i have service dogs and i mostly carry it to use if we come upon an aggressive dog or human who doesn't like a dog in the grocery. insert eye roll here. the quick 1 second pop is usually enough to get the person or dog's attention and nothing further is necessary. it's easy to carry and i like the metal "grabbers" on the outside. if they try to grab it from you, they still get a shock. so far no one has volunteered to let me taze them, so i don't know how strong the shock is. i figure i'll accidentally taze myself, then i can update the review. not looking forward to that. it seems to intimidate those who need to be. recently i walked into a convenience store at night and there was a gathering of methy looking folks. at first they were kind of aggressive (woman alone at night) and then saw the taser. attitude adjustment was immediate. i left without a purchase because my gut said get out. so it works even if you don't use it. it charges easily and holds a charge forever. also the flashlight has come in handy more times than i can count. i own 3 of these. on by my bed, one in my purse (that's the one that will get me lol) and one near the front door. i carry it with me outside because i live in the forest with bears and cougars. they don't like the sound either. lord i hope i never am so close that i have to zap one because lets face it... a 500 lb bear and this taser may not be much of a deterrent. we have other things for that. :) i would recommend and have to my friends. we are all anxious to try it on a person but so far no one wants to be the guinea pig. honestly, it scares people. legal where i live, check your own laws.
