Bought this set after having become convinced through Paul Seller's videos that it was the way to go for sharpening system. Turns out he knew a thing or two, because after setting them up in a block of wood they work marvelously well. Add stropping compound and leather covered block of wood for the finishing and it would be difficult to find a more simple and robust solution.

I'm a hobbyist woodworker, which basically means everything I know is from YouTube. I got my first set of chisels and a cheap little whet stone thinking it would hold off (I didn't think about how they would lose shape) . After not getting the cuts I wanted I decided to just bite the bullet and splurge on some diamond stones. After sharpening my chisel on these stones I was able to do the magical paper test like they do on YouTube! These stones are solidly made and we'll worth the investment!

These diamond stones are of a good size, of a good quality, and comparable to more expensive diamond sharpening stones which I have purchased previously. I also prefer them to sharpening stones made of other materials, such as ceramic, water stones, and natural stone, or sandpaper on glass (all of which I own or have tried). They are flat, cut effectively, and use only water as a lubricant. When I received the order a two sided stone was substituted for one of the single surface stones. The owner contacted me and told me the missing single surface stone would be shipped when it became in stock. I received it recently and the owner noted that I did not need to return the two-sided substitution. Excellent service and communication.

You’re probably here because you’re starting to get serious about sharpening. If you’re like me, you’ve struggled for years with stones, plate glass, sandpaper, honing jigs, etc. If I could go back to my journeyman days, I’d tell myself: “just get the diamond plates, dummy”. Worth every penny, don’t bother trying to save a few bucks here and there by piecing together a set, just bite the bullet and buy yourself the optimal lifetime sharpening solution. PROS: - waaaaay less maintenance than stones or sandpaper - waaaaay faster - results are easily as sharp or sharper - will last you probably forever, hope to pass these on to my grandkids - doubles as lapping plates for stones - this seller is bona fide, will answer the phone, and is committed to the product and service CONS: - might seem spendy at first. Believe me, it’s not, stop wasting time and energy and shortcut straight to the ultimate solution EXTRA: - comes with a holder/base - comes with very useful info sheets - plates are 8 x 3, watch out for cheaper plates that are 6 x 2, you don’t want those - rule of thumb, double grit each pass of sharpening, 300/600/1200 is perfect - still have my 5000, 8000, strop and compound for final finishing BOTTOM LINE: - if you want to sharpen way better, way faster, and way easier, this is for you - if you enjoy struggling and wasting time with poor results, than this is not for you

I purchased these stones and when they arrived there were two of the 1200 grit and no 300 grit stone. I contacted the seller via their web site and within two hours they had responded, provided me with a tracking number for the 300 grit stone they were sending me and they let me keep the extra 1200 grit stone. I waited to write this review until I had the opportunity to spend some time sharpening a knife with them. They work extremely well and I was able to get a pretty sharp edge. The lack of a razor edge is due to my inexperience with this type of stone and in no way a fault of the stones. Once I get more time and practice I am confident I will be getting razor sharp edges on all my knives.

these were recommended by paul sellers and i couldn't agree more... thick and absolutely flat... as far as i can tell anyway... mine came with a holder... i didn't expect that... the holder is high quality too

These work extremely well and definitely very quickly. I have tried several different stones for sharpening and even have a very nice Tormek machine that is good for many applications. I bought these specifically for sharpening plane irons after watching a video on sharpening by Paul Sellers. I had never sharpened free hand before, and I was a bit nervous about trying it, so I experimented with a cheaper iron I figured I wouldn't use much anyway. After a little practice (very little) I am getting much better with it and I am having excellent results with that cheap iron. So much so that I haven't sharpened the Hock Tools iron I intended to use in its place. I'll wait for that until I am much more proficient at free hand. The holder exceeded my expectations by a mile. I was hoping to buy this set without it in order to save some money, but it is fantastic. It holds the plates securely and "sticks" to the surface you set it on to do your sharpening. It doesn't move or shift one little bit at all. All I can say about the seller is that I had absolutely no problems whatsoever. My purchase was processed and delivered quickly and without a hitch. I recommend this set without reservation. 100% completely satisfied.

Great sharpening stones, great customer service, great price! When I ordered the complete set of course, fine and extra fine plates they were out of stock on the fine plate. So, instead of making me wait, they sent a double sided fine/extra-fine plate along with the course and extra-fine. Takes up the same space on my sharpening station, but gives me a second extra-fine plate, should I need it. It also came with a free stone holder, which I don't actually use with these sharpening plates, but I do use with a Japanese waterstone I sometimes use. Over all, I am very happy with the company and the product.

Sharpened my entire set of chisels (24 of them) and irons when I received these. Being brand new, they were a bit rough and sticky at first but this is to be expected from diamond stones. After a few chisels I already noticed an improvement. My burrs where straight and even across the blade which means the blades were trued up and the surface was flat. The bevels came out consistently sharp and even. Given the price, I'd say these stones are excellent. The only thing I cannot comment on is the durability only because I haven't owned them that long.

First the good. I just received my 3 stone set a few days ago. First impression was they were a lot heaver than I anticipated. Not a bad thing. When in the base it has a very stable and “rooted” feel. I picked up an inexpensive set of chisels thet were going to require the proper bevel set up. The 300 grit stone was extremely fast at getting me to the proper angles. The finer stones only seemed to require 10-30 strokes more each, depending on the size of the chise i was working on. Stropping with green compound after the 1200 stone left a very brigjt finish. Now the less good. Im not sure if there was just a lot of diamond that broke loose while breaking in the stones or i didnt keep them wet enough, but they started to develop some scratches along the path you use while sharpening. I initially thought it was just metal clogging the stones but After cleaning rinsing and scrubbing the stones they were obvioisly small gouges. And then the amazing... I sent an email, through amazon to the seller. I got a reply that same evening (after hours no less) and a phone call the following morning. Service was very professional and polite. Replacement stones are being shipped as i write this. They also recommended some lubricant and techniques to help break in the new set. Id like to mention the old set will be fine for kitchen use and i will likely still use them to freshen up some of my heavier blades that arent for super fine work, if they end up in the workshop. Draw knives, hatchets etc. I would not hesitate to do business with these guys. Old school customer service and a product that does what its designed to do.
