Excellent sharpening stone! Forget the electric sharpeners or taking your knives to a sharpening service, this is the way! That's the way my grandpa used to do and his knives were always sharp. This does take a little bit of time but hey, that's why you spent so much money on your excellent knives! Don't just let them dull with time, this stone will make them as sharp as the day you bought them. It has a rougher and a finer surfaces and a very nice solid base to keep the stone in place while you're sharpening your knife. I did not use the enclosed attachment for the proper angle and did a good work of getting a razor-like edge, but the attachment guide does look very useful. Long story short, if you have a nice set of knives (I have Gunther Wilhelm), this sharpening stone is a must have if you want to keep your knives in a great sharp condition

I’m a carpenter/avid outdoorsman so in general I like to keep a knife on me where ever I go as you find yourself in need of one more often than not. I beat on my knifes hard, regularly using them on the job site to cut miscellaneous day-to-day material that often times dulls the blade into becoming a glorified butter knife. This whetstone gets my blades back to razor sharp quality in a matter of minutes and gives me a sharp blade wherever I go. The dual sided grit is what really drew me to this stone, as the 1000 grit cleans up the edge and gets any major imperfections out and the 6000 grit gives me that razor sharp edge. Stand it comes in is nice too, keeps it in place while working the blade. You won’t regret the purchase

This is a very well made sharpening stone. It's of a good size, and although some do not care for combination stones, it is very handy. The stone had a plastic substructure which holds the stone in the bamboo base and appears very sturdy overall. The blade angle guide may not be of too much use by experienced users, but I believe it would be helpful to a beginner. I chose this one for the grit combination (1000/6000) and am quite happy with its performance. I recommend it.

This is a quality product. It's a little more expensive than some of the other whetstones, but seems to be worth it to me. It has 1000 grit for sharpening dull knives, and 6000 grit for fine tuning already sharpened knives. It has a bamboo base to help from slipping while ur sharpening. Overall I'm very satisfied with this product, and would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a quality whetstone.

This is perfect for people that are not pros but need sharper knives. I decided to give my knives once last shot before tossing them. The stone worked perfectly to restore the blades to their original quality. Sharpening the knives does take some practice and plenty of time. The 1000/6000 stone is a great entry level stone to practice. Soon I will be looking to go with a rougher and smoother grit to get the blades exactly how I want them. For anyone just using the blades for food prep, the 1k/6k stone will be sufficient. The base is perfect and does not slide along my granite countertops. Soaking the stone is necessary and having additional water on hand to keep the stone wet. The angle guide slides well but gets in the way once you move towards the tip of the knife. I've found that using my thumbs as a guide works better and gives a natural feel. If you've never used a wet stone you should watch a couple of how-to videos to understand the basic process and start off with a knife that you wouldn't mind ruining.

I had wanted a pair of sharpening stones for a while, so was enthused to get this last week. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos on how to use them and a deburring strop I also bought and wow, my kitchen and pocket knives are now wicked sharp. Pro tip: if you post anything about it on social media, family and friends will almost surely volunteer their knives for more practice...

So, before beginning this review, I think it's important to note that this stone is a standard item that is sold by a different company and simply branded with "sharp pebble" branding. If you know the right thing to search for on amazon ("sharpening stone knife non-slip base angle guide 1000/6000"), you will find at least 20 more listings selling exactly the same product for a variety of prices, nearly all of them less than this one, which has a higher price because of the fact that it is well-marketed and shows up higher in the search. If you are interested in this stone, it's probably a better bet to get the exact same thing for cheaper, since you can. That being said, I would recommend getting one that comes with the angle guide, which we'll go into more detail on later in the review. Ok with that disclaimer out of the way, this is a really excellent sharpening stone. The included angle guide is a game changer -- by far the most difficult part about sharpening knives is keeping the angle consistent, and this little thing makes it dead simple. I got one of these for my mom, who had never sharpened a knife in her life. After spending about 5 minutes with it, she was up and running. We also had a pretty good test bed for it -- since she had never sharpened a knife before, her knives were so dull that you couldn't injure yourself with one if you tried. They are literally unable to cut through a tomato's skin, even after vigorously sawing back and forth - you'd have to pierce it with the point first. We took one of these completely dull knives and worked it with this stone for probably 45 minutes and while it takes longer than that to get a knife from 100% dull to razor sharp, the difference was abundantly clear to everyone. It was once again an actual knife that could cut vegetables with ease. If you are not familiar with knife sharpening, this is a perfect intro because of the angle guide, and whetstones are much much more effective than stand sharpeners, so this is what you should get. If you are on the fence about whether you need to sharpen your knives at all, you do. Get one of these and it will make cooking much easier and honestly much safer, since the chances of a knife slipping off something you're trying to cut and into your fingers is much lower when the knife is sharp enough that it bites instead of slipping. Ah one more thing - the package does not include instructions on how to use the angle guide so I will add them here. Take the tip of the knife and slide it into the end of the angle guide, then use the ceramic rails to slide the angle guide all the way on to the body of the knife, so the tip protrudes from the other end. Now, within the guide there is some play - if you place the knife/guide on the stone and flex the handle, looking at it from the side, you will see that the knife can rest either against the top or bottom of the plastic inside the guide. I would recommend keeping it resting against the bottom. The *only* way you can mess up is not holding the angle consistently when sharpening, so make sure to keep an eye on this. As you hold the handle, make sure you are putting pressure on it in such a way that the knife stays flat against the bottom of the inside of the angle guide. Beyond that, just go for it, moving the knife back and forth across the stone. You can look up whetstone tutorials on youtube for the rest. One more thing. As you sharpen a knife on a stone, both the knife and the stone are having their surfaces ground away. This means that, over time, the surface of your whetstone will go from being flat, to being uneven. It is super important, however, that your whetstone surface is perfectly flat in order to accurately sharpen a knife. So if you are planning on keeping your knives sharp long term, you will also need what's called a "flattening stone." My research has indicated that using a diamond plate for this will yield best results, however, there are plenty of other types of flattening stones on amazon with good reviews that cost less than a diamond plate, so if you want to experiment, go for it. In fact, there is another listing that sells this same stone with a "flattening stone" as well, for less than the price of this item: Professional Knife Sharpening Stone - Two Grit 1000/6000 Whetstone - Kitchen Knife, Chef Knife & Tool Shaping System - Kit Includes Non-Slip Bamboo Base, Angle Guide, Flattening Stone and Instructions. The bad news is that there are a lot of different flattening stones at a lot of different price ranges. The good news is that you can experiment -- it's quite easy to check whether your stone is actually perfectly flat -- just take any other perfectly straight surface (edge of a piece of paper, ruler, level, any type of construction square, etc), crouch down so your eyes are even with the level of the stone, and move the straight edge across the surface, looking for any gaps. To be super precise, put a light behind it, so you will see the light coming through any gaps. Oook that's it for this mega-review, hope this was helpful!

Rather than read an ebook I just watched some YouTube videos. The one I found most helpful was a video showing sushi chef Hiro Terada sharpening a knife. I didn't do it until my 2nd time using the stones but I took a flattening stone and used it to slightly round off the sharp edges on the long sides of the sharpening stones. This made sharpening much easier with no caught edges (a recommendation from a different video). Soak your stones for hours, not minutes. When sharpening, don't rinse off the residue that develops on the stone. Add a bit of water as needed. 15 degrees or less is quite a shallow angle. My first time using the stones I was holding at what I thought was 15° or so, but my edges came out quite small and I couldn't get a good sharp edge. I had to redo several knives at a shallower angle and I will go even shallower next time. I'd rather a sharper edge that requires more frequent touch ups than a less sharp but more durable edge. When working on the tip of your knife you do need to lift the handle up a bit (unless your blade is on the more flexible side) but be sure to maintain your 15° angle.

I give Sharp Pebble a top rating for two reasons. First, the company emailed a user guide for me to review and learn how to best use its product while it was being shipped to me. Wonderfully proactive. Second, the sharpening stone did a terrific job restoring the edge on my kitchen knives that had been woefully neglected. Ever rent a house and every knife in the kitchen has the edge of a butter knife? I was almost there. Now, the knives are cutting beautifully. I have only one suggestion for Sharp Pebble. While the stone includes a useful angle guide that can be attached to a blade and the guide gives clear steps on prepping the stone and how to hold the blade when sharpening, it does not illustrate the manner in which the blade needs to be moved across the stone. I had to go to Youtube to get some tips on the exact method. I have historically been very bad at putting an edge on a blade due to ignorance primarily. But with the help of the video and a good stone, I did an effective job. The base does a great job of holding the stone in place and is attractive in the kitchen.

Actually, the company contacted me to make sure I received the stones and that I was happy with them. Excellent service. The stones are great! I'm pretty much a novice so the clear instructions that came with the stones and the eBook instructions were wonderful. The eBook had quality pictures demonstrating the use of the stones and the written instructions were clear and to the point. Within minutes of opening the box I had the stones figured out and sharpening my AF survival knife, my pocket knife and a couple of my wife's kitchen knives...which included a very expensive chef's knife. Very satisfied with this product and highly recommend it.
