I have to be honest, when I saw the price tag for the my initial reaction was pretty negative. "What does this kit have that makes it 300% better than the other $20 Chinese tool kits?" To put things in context, I bought a small driver and a set of bits that fit in little round stand for $3 maybe a decade ago and have used it to this day. Otherwise I made do with buying little extra security bits/drivers when necessary and the cheapo spudgers/picks that came with phone batteries and screens. It worked pretty well, too - there have been plenty of laptops, computers, phones and electronics that I've taken apart and put back together during that time. Finally I decided to "graduate" and get a more complete set. I tried getting a $15 kingsdun kit - it was a low price for the # of bits and had good reviews, which is pretty much how most min-maxing geeks behave. When I got it everything seemed a bit chintzy with rough finishes, but solid. The driver squeaked when I pressed my finger against the end and undid some fasteners. No biggie, I can just add some lube. The bits didn't go in and out of the next socket very smoothly... but no they still fit and worked alright. The bigger problem was that I couldn't quite reach the rubber grip when trying to use the driver with 1 hand - the rest of the driver's body is a smooth, slippery aluminum/brushed steel that provides no grip. So I said to myself "Oh what the hell" and decided to just order the iFixit kit and even at over 3x the cost I have no regrets. The term "precision screwdriver" was made to describe this tool. It is just the right length with a nice, balanced weight. The knurling and super smooth turning action makes using the driver feel fantastic while the bits slide in and out perfectly smoothly while also being perfectly snug. The rest of the kit is well thought out and high quality as well. The box for the precision screwdriver and bits closes with heavy duty magnets = no hinge or clasp fatigue. The box itself has a metal plate in the back that causes it to stick to a thin magnet attached to the cover. This magnetic sheet can be used to old metal parts and fasteners when you have the whole kit laid out and ready for action. I think the people who have problems with getting the velcro to stick probably half-assed the re-packing process somehow - I haven't run into this issue so far, maybe there were some bad runs? I mean OK, the tweezers aren't exactly surgical grade but they're plenty good for electronics work. In other words, if you are looking for an electronics tool kit, this kit is the way to go. I wouldn't bother with anything else really. Buy once, cry once!

This appears to have everything I could want for working on phones etc... except a sim tray tool. Used a grocery twist tie in it's place as I don't remember where I put the boxes from my OnePlus One phones. The spudgers, tweezers and 00 screwdriver tip I used seem to be of excellent quality. I did NOT need this level of kit, but being an Automotive Technician used to buying Snapon, I kind of had to get it... I like the wrap, it works. The magnetic bit tray cover is nice, no damn clip to break off the 3rd time you open it. The use of a magnet in the wrap to hold the bit holder housing was a nice touch. Overall, very pleased with this purchase. Managed to rebuild my OnePlus One with a few problems that had nothing to do with the tools, just my inexperience opening a phone.

Ok, so I had cobbled together a computer repair toolkit over the years and had a lot of the items in this kit in the one that I have set up over a few years. A couple surprises came in this kit though. One that really makes this purchase worth it all. So, the kit comes in a velcro wrap enclosure with a hand driver and bits. It also has what at first look is a extension for the driver fine, as many times you need to insert a screw or remove one an inch or more below where is easily accessible. This kit goes one up by making the extension flexible so those screws that always seem to be just 1/4 inch out of a straight line of the screw driver is easily accessible. The rubberized casing allows you to hold the extension in place without impeading on the ability to tighten or loosen screws. Then a number of knife like devices to help open items that are held together with glue or other means, some of which are angled for different complications with various devices. Also a couple plastic blocks to keep an area separated once a seal is broken in a area. Nothing worse than getting a section to separate to have it go back together again and seem to be locked tighter than it was the first time.

I get the feeling even without checking that many others have said what I'm about to for the iFixit kit: it is absolutely indispensable for anyone working with electronics. It's so well thought out and filled with useful pieces, and so lacking in worthless ones, that you can tell it was put together by people who work on electronics regularly. Among professionals, these iFixit kits are practically ubiquitous because their utility is so well known. Watch just about any tech channel, for example, and you will hear a lot of "iFixit isn't actually a sponsor but..." as they pull out one of these tool kits. In fact, I would go so far as to say that if you are about to work with a technician and they don't have one of these kits, you should consider their skills and/or experience somewhat suspect unless you know them or someone you trust can vouch for them. The kits reputation is that good. You could probably save a few dollars by hunting for the components individually, but for whatever tiny amount you saved it wouldn't be worth the convenience of having it all in one place, imo. I would splurge for the Pro kit and future-proof your investment a bit, personally. Either way, I couldn't recommend one of these kits highly enough.

ORIGINAL REVIEW, JANUARY 2018: Every gadget fixer and DIY-er should have something like this on hand. It's a rather specialized toolkit, a nice addition to your assortment of pliers and other tools. UPDATE, A MONTH LATER: The longer I have this kit, the more useful it gets. The screwdriver bit collection by itself is worth the price. The prying tools have become indispensible - no more screwdriver gouges from trying to pry open things, and no more banged-up fingernails. The reverse tweezers (squeeze to loosen, unsqueeze to grip) are immensely handy. And, back to the screwdriver bits, the screwdriver handle itself is very well designed. It's ergonomic, it allows you to keep pressure on the fastener at all times, it's got good manufacturing tolerances, and the extender is actually a useful accessory rather than an annoyance.

I bought this set after ruining one of the tiny torx screws repairing my phone with one of the chinesium kits that came with the repair parts. That "kit" cost me an extra $10 and was utter useless junk. So while this toolkit may seem pricey by comparison, it's worth every penny if you ever plan to do any repair work on small electronics devices. The bits certainly seem to be strong and high quality, and the driver feels nice and solid in your hands. Likewise with the tweezers. As others have noted, the plastic lid that attaches magnetically and doubles as a parts bin is a great touch as well. I haven't had a chance to use many of the tools, but they all feel well made and robust. The only thing that is missing from this kit is a SIM card ejector. If the folks at iFixit are reading, that would be a great addition!

I have a few thousand dollars worth of tools, but I missed the electronics shift for the last 10 years. I didn't own a spudger and all the Torx drivers I had were Craftsmen and not meant for tiny, tiny screw holes. This is a very nice kit. The different spudgers are all needed. The jimmy tool is useful for when you want to open something and just no longer care. Folks complain about the velco being in the wrong spot, but I found the easiest way to close the kit to be removing the screwdriver set, closing the kit, then pushing it back into the envelope made. It fits very securely this way. Not in the kit, but should be added is some polyimide tape. It's in everything!

I’m gonna give this five stars even with a few flaws, and here’s why. I’ll start with the negatives: the packaging seemed to have seals broken on the box leading me to believe it was repackaged. I was thinking, here we go again as I’ve had a few items touted as new sent via AMZN which were obviously used. But to my surprised the inside showed no signs of use which was a relief. My second disappointing find was the lack of a 5 point security bit which I just assumed would be part of the offering, but alas that was my stupidity for not looking closely on product description. I can’t find a micro 5 point security bit anywhere! Now the good stuff, and this really hinges on ifixit itself. While product itself is nice, its not the quality of the components that impress me. The IFIXIT website is phenomenal. You are not just buying a bit set. You are buying into a company that provides a complete solution set to your problems. You never repaired an iPhone? Well with a little gumption, this toolkit and the ifixit website, it is now possible. I’m hoping this company continues on this awesome path of empowering people to DIY so those of us who cannot afford the big box Geeks can fix it ourselves.

I struggled to justify spending the money on this when there are so many copies here on Amazon for way less than half the price. I finally decided that I wanted a kit with quality, durable tools. And I went for it. I’m so happy that I did. So far I have completely disassembled 2 Xbox One controllers and replaced the screen on my Son’s Kindle Fire HD8. The Xbox One controllers were mostly fixed with just a good cleaning. One had a sticky A button and both had D pad issues. But no more. I currently have a replacement screen on order for my Asus TF700 Transformer tablet. Theses tools have worked great for all these repairs! I highly recommend taking the plunge and getting these instead of the cheaper ones. You won’t regret it!
