Well, it works better than expected. Much better. (Note: And yes, you can extend the range of the device...)
It's true - when the MEATER first came out (I kickstarted it), it took a while to actually receive...which drove a lot of skepticism. My dad, brother, sister and I all had ordered one and anxiously (and angrily) waited for it to come...which it did. You may wonder, why then a 5 star review? A few things: - You don't need to wait a long time anymore...I ordered two more of these devices, and they all came within a week. - The temperatures are accurate...trust us...we spent forever thinking 'yeah, this is too good to be true'. We tried it against all of our dozen-or-so wired thermometers (a TON of times), and the meat turned out better than when we had used the wired ones. - I see a lot of people complaining about the range...and I did too at first. However, one thing that the creator of this device should highlight in neon lights (HINT HINT) are their videos explaining that YOU CAN EXTEND THE RANGE. I can seriously go to the park with my nephews or watch a movie, and still cook my meat (NOT RECOMMENDED - FIRE HAZARD). If you have no idea where to find it...type in 'meater range' into youtube, I think it should pop up. - It really increased the types of meat my whole family were comfortable cooking. Their app lets you easily choose between beef, pork, fish and more...but then FURTHER lets you choose stuff like rib-eye, brisket, steak...and then asks you 'rare, medium rare, medium, etc.). Since then, I've only burned ONE piece of meet out of dozens...and that was because I fell asleep away from my phone... - It's super easy to clean. It wasn't THAT much hassle before, but when you're trying to keep your kitchen clean and 'sleek' and not have 3-4 wires dangling around, this fits in pretty well. We get it...a lot of us were angry because it took a while to come. I was one of those people...I seriously didn't touch the device cause it took so long to come and I was bitter. But, I'm glad I eventually did open and use it cause it works better than advertised. Note: A few buddies of mine ordered some 'knock-off' versions of this device because they were cheaper...that ended up being a big mistake. The quality was poor and their accuracy was super off...

Takes the guessing game out of cooking perfect meat
Love it! I’ve used it several times since I got it and it’s so useful! Takes the guessing game out especially cooking meat you don’t want to cut into prior to eating. I’ve used it in the oven, steamer (for whole fish), grill and even smoker..yes we have lots of cooking vessels. I like that it comes in a stylish box easy for storage on the fridge. Be careful removing it after cooking though, it’s really hot and I learned the hard way. Whoops. Highly recommend!

It's that good. There are two places that I predominantly use ...
I have been using the Meater for six months, and this was my second purchase (the first one was from Kickstarter), so I'll give my reflections after using it for many, many cooks... Once you get used to using the Meater for your cooks, there is not a chance that you will ever go without one again. It's that good. There are two places that I predominantly use the Meater: Big Green Egg & Philips Airfryer. I do a lot of beer can chicken in the Green Egg, and not having to open the lid to check simplifies the whole process. For quick jobs, I slow-cook my burger patties and chicken in the Airfryer and reverse sear it, so the Meater works like a charm in that environment too. Basically, if you like to cook larger pieces of food, and would like to go wireless and take the guesswork out of your cooks, the Meater is the only way to go. My other wired thermometers have been trashed, all except for my handy quick-read one.

Works well, and easy to use.
I have not used this for on the barbi outside yet, but have cooked both chicken and fish with it inside. Initial set up was easy. The app is great. It gives excellent recipe and temp guidance. I’m quite happy with it. in terms of distance, I’m fine getting a signal all over the first floor of my house. I also have an iPad I would use if I wanted to ramble and needed cloud or network acces. The one problem I had was user error. I inserted the probe into the bone of a whole chicken. Bones are not a good place to take a reading from! Other than that, I’m happy. I’m even considering buying a second one, so I can cook two things at once as I did tonight. Worth noting, the temp it recommended and set was dead on. The temp that my wired probe set for a chicken breast was 15 degrees too hot.

Perfectly cook meal!!
I have a pellet grill with a meat probe and internal temp probe. However, I don’t think that they are very accurate. I used another older wireless temperature probe. There was at least a 60 degree F difference between it and the meat probe. So, I bought the MEATER after doing some research. I just took a meal off the grill. Using the Meater as my control device, everything came out perfect. While the pellet grill read 325 deg F, the MEATER read 290. The pellet grill meat probe was closer and within 15 deg F. But that could be the difference between medium rare, as I like it, to medium or medium well, over done. That has been the issue in using the pellet grill probes. I’ll try it on chicken next.

I first came across Meater through Kickstarter and have been using it now for about 6 months and its been working great! The cooks are extremely accurate and my meats have been cooking to perfection. You can monitor your cook easily from your mobile device and what's nice is that the app will even tell you the time remaining until you reach your desired temperature. Because the probe measures the temperature of the meat AND the ambient temperature you get really precise reads. This has pretty much become my go-to gift for all occasions and everyone has loved it! Super precise cooks...great gift idea!

So easy to use!
The MEATER is great. Super easy to set up and use. The pork loin I roasted was the juiciest I've ever made. The app itself is really easy to understand and work with and I love that the charger is a magnet that will stay on the fridge instead of having something else taking up space in a drawer. No more guesswork means I’m not cutting into and roast or stabbing it in 5 different places trying to see if it’s done so it looks prettier when it’s all done. Only upgrade to the app I’d like to see at this point is a slightly longer range, and push notifications so I can be in different apps and still get updates.

Super simple set up, easy to use.
I’ve barbecued meat for ages without using a thermometer and had good results. That said, using MEATER takes all the guess work out and provides consistent, and I’ll admit, better results every time. It is super simple to set up and incredibly intuitive to use. From downloading the app to cooking can easily be done in less than 5 minutes. I consistently get at least 25 feet of range while the probe is in use in my barbecue. That works well for my use. Plus, if you go too far the app will notify you that you are no longer connected allowing you to move back in range before cooking has completed. From the app, to the charging base that you can leave on your refrigerator, to the easy to clean probe, this is a very well designed product.

‘Meater’ - The best!! I’m sold.
This is a great device, even the un-boxing was an adventure. A box in a box revealing a very compact and well-crafted wooden (bamboo?) probe holder/charger. Even included is the required AAA battery. Setup, including BT discovery, was a snap on my Galaxy S7 Edge using the Meater App downloaded for free from the Google Play Store. Setup of the cook was also a simple matter. If you need coaching or a walk-through, there are even tutorial videos included with the app. The Cook. I prepped a 4.2 pound chicken; spatchcocked, citrus-brined, seasoned and splayed out on a rack in a casserole dish. I inserted the Meater into the thickest part of the breast to the indicator line on the probe. I set up the cook parameters on the app per the step-by-step instructions and put it in the pre-heated oven. Being able to monitor both the temp in the oven (ambient) and the temp of the meat (internal) made my first cook with the Meater a real adventure. The Result. The roast was done to perfection. The Meater app cook process includes a “rest” interval. Allowing the meat to rest for the indicated time insured it was cooked thoroughly while staying moist and juicy. I’m looking forward to using the Meater to cook other meats. To date I have used several, better brand, wired cooking probes with a measure of success. It’s a bit hit or miss because the probe simply reads and reports the meat temperature and alerts when it has hit the target temp. It’s up to the chef to know how much earlier to pull it out of the oven for a proper rest. Also, the cable restricts use to within a few feet of the oven and is a pain to clean. Conclusion. If the Meater works as well on large roasts as this small chicken then I am sold and will toss my selection of other devices. I’ll follow up with other cooks when I can. I’ve got a pending order for a Meater Block (4 sensors with a WiFi access point built in) on my wish list. Think of cooking a few different meats or cuts simultaneously on the BBQ or in the oven… no longer a guessing game.

Takes the guessing out of cooking
This is one of those things in life you stumble on and think, where have you been my whole life? It just makes sense and it works. I'm not going to claim I'm a chef just yet, but I just cooked the best Ribeye steak I've ever done. Instead of stressing out and sticking a thermometer into the steak every few minutes waiting for it hit 160 degrees, I let my iPhone tell me when to remove it from the grill. Cooking this steak has gone from becoming this black magic crap shoot, to one of just a simple repeatable procedure.
